The phone companies don't want to help us block these caller's numbers because they are making money on it or they would've done something about it by now. Small home based businesses like mine already spend tons of money on phone book advertising and depend on our business lines to make a descent living. I own/operate a 24hr mobile locksmith business and these telemarketers/con artists take time away from my customers trying to get through when they have an emergency so they call someone else and I lose money. The National Do Not Call List does not apply to business lines so business owners are hit the hardest.

After ignoring this unidentifed number for several days I answered to a very rude man who insisted I verfy the number he called. He asked for someone I do not know and refused to identify himself.

I say we all call our Department of Commerce, phone companies, and the like. I think we should write our state senators and representatives to pass bills for bill collectors that states they can send you something in the mail.  I get these scam calls all too often saying this or that and telling me to make a payment via phone.  I have written down their names and such and called the Department of Commerce and they are not licensed in this state.  I now have things going into my credit report of who I have no idea are what, so I had to put a freeze on my credit report.  Like someone else said, this is Homeland Security we have to worry about.  Think about all the work that is going overseas to other countries (like India).  Hospitals and clinics are hiring companies that service these countries to type our reports.  It used to be some hospitals used social security numbers for the chart numbers, which they are now trying to get away as JCAHO (Joint Commission of Accreditation of Hospitals) I believe was trying to step in and say they could not use those as chart numbers any more.  Also, I took a payday loan out once, my lawyer told me to default on it. I tried to make a payment plan and I traced it to 5 or 6 different agencies they sold my social security number too.  We have to have laws that say they have to do their own collections in their own company and not sell it to a collector.  They are just as much scam artists as were a lot of these mortgage deals. I called the Attorney General's office, and was I was told to contact the Social Security Administration (although still waiting to hear back from them). I don't even trust these big banks like Wells Fargo and such; just how much detail do they pay attention to when they hire people, who could most probably steal our information.  That has been known to happen too. Complain to the people you pay your taxes to so we can protect ourselves. They have to tighten up the laws on these bastards. I don't answer the phone for these numbers either, even it just says South Carolina or South Dakota - I have had those too.

After receiving numerous calls that show 000-000-0000 on my caller id, someone finally left a message that included a number for me to call back.  I googled the number and discovered it is listed for Ameriloan, which is a payday advance company.  Debt collectors and creditors are not allowed to hide their identification from debtors as part of the Fair Debt Collection Act.

I thought maybe it was like a pedophile or a stalker or something crazy like that (big imagagination...) So I called them back and it wouldnt let me. I have Verizon...So they called AGAIN and hung up like 2 seconds after it started ringing. And I cant reach them. But now that I know who the f*** is calling my phone...theyre going to get a f***ing piece of my mind.

This appears to be a spoof number to hide the identity of the true caller.  These started showing up a couple of weeks ago.  I even got one on Christmas Morning but didn't answer.  Unfortunately, my son picked up last night and it was AOL trying to bring me back into their insane service.   I think they're related to Satan (see above).  Very annoying and intrusive.  Word to the wise, never use AOL.  If you have them, don't leave them or they'll haunt you where ever you go.  They're worse than a virus.

I've been getting these at work now.  I got it twice.  I work at a bank and we were robbed a few weeks ago.  It freaks us out that someone is trying to see when a manager is there, since the last time I wasn't and they didn't get much money.  Is there anyway, since we are a business, we can track these?

AOL is also using this hidden number to try and get me back.  They've called me daily even after I've pleaded for them to stop.  They claim it takes up to 30 days for their do not call list to take affect.  And yes, they even called me on Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning...nothing is sacred for them.  AOL is an evil company.

I have gotten about 80 calls from this number over the past 2 months. 14 calls came just today, so I whipped it on them, take me off your call list or I would get an order to put a trap on my line, track them down, and prosecute them, and asked "do you understand me". The hung up. They had been calling every few minutes in those last few hours, but now, the calls seem to have stopped. I hope permanently!

I've had several calls from this number over the last week and finally answered it.  It was Mac Tools Credit Department letting me know that I'm overdue on my credit card.  Problem is, I never had an account with Mac Tools so they apologized and admitted that they're having problems with their credit records.

I signed up with AOL free service with my new computer and within hours, I started getting calls from this number.  It's AOL trying to get me to commint to a one year contract price.  They won't take no for an answer.  I'm even getting pop up messages on my computer from AOL.  I called them and complained and the calls still continue. I even tried to do what John A suggested but they still keep calling.   I'm taking my computer back to Circuit City today.  This is insane.

This survey company called again, yesterday, I told them to take me off of their call list. I hope they do, otherwise I will contact the sheriff to have an order filed to put a trap on my line to find out who they are and prosecute them for harrassment!
