This number has called me 3 times already today claiming to be 'Consumer Research'.  I am off work ill today and told the first caller I did not have time to speak to them - she hung up without another word.  The second time I answered I was greeted by silence (obviously they are using an automated dialler) and the third time I told 'Phoebe' (all Indian accents) to take me off the list.  This is disgraceful!!!

I had a call from this number to-day. It appears to be from an Indian Call centre. Greet me like an old friend -which annoys me intensely- before responding to my "who Are you?". Then mumbled something about consumer research and was still reading their script over my "I am sorry but I don't do surveys, goodbye". I am on the TPS service but I guess that this does not apply to overseas companies. Is there an International equivalent of TPS?

As above - called today (17 Dec) - and even though I answered quickly - silence at the other end.

exactly as Eddie above. Line went dead after 10 secs.

Ditto. I was up a ladder painting the ceiling. I also have a block on unsolicited calls, but there you are.

Same as all above - first silence and then again silence - called every night this week.

I just took a call from this number. There was some garbled chatter then disconnected. Who are these people, and how do I stop them?

Similar experience to other callers - phone rings but nobody at the other end, all the hallmarks of a call centre 'fishing' for business.

i had 3 calls in an hour. the guy claimed to be a friend from india. after politely questioning him he called me a bloody mother******! what does he think that is going to do for race relations?

Phoned several times, all silent !  Latest one 0n 19/12/08 at 18:42.

This number has called several times.  Always silent

I had a call today 19 December 2008 at about 6.20 pm. There was no voice at the other end.

This number called my Mother and Father today - both over 70 years old! this is not on!

I received a silent call from the above number at 16.58 GMT today 22nd December 2008. My wife and I are 75 years of age and this type of call we could do without.

More or less every day starting at about 8.30am, some days every hour ish. I am thinking of getting my numer changed!

Already have "calls barred" through Telephone Preferrence

They rang at 19:27 GMT on the 5th January 2009, but there was silence at the other end. It's so irritating.

Thanks for all the comments, glad I wasn't available to pick up the phone but called 1471 to find who it was. We've had a few silent calls recently, so this number is probably the culprit.

Have had 2 calls from this number in last 2 days.  Silence.  Very irritating. The only good thing is that this website exists so at least I can have a moan about the calls!!

Called me at 12.15pm today, calling himself Mark Lewis, but with a strong Asian accent, asking for my daughter, who was out at the time.  i told them this, asked who they were & then they asked if I was from same family & could I spare 3 mins for 'customer research'.  I said no, that my number is on the TP service & i don't answer any cals like these over the phone.  Then said goodbye & ended the call.  Tried 1471 & got the above number. But who are they & is there a website /contact address that I can complain to?  Or can Trading Standards office be of any use with this maybe to trace the number & reveal their identity?  There should be a law to stop these 'nuisance' calls accessing Uk numbers in the same way as TP works. But probably paid for our details from a UK data office anyway?
