Got a call from this number today.
Claims to be TalkTalk. Asked us to switch computer on and give details.
Smelled a rat and we ended the call.

Yes, I had the same experience. Claimed to be from TalkTalk and insisted that I switch my computer on as it was 'being hacked'! I promptly hung up but am now getting prank calls from the number daily :(

Also had a call from 'Talk Talk' claiming something to do with Microsoft on my computer being hacked. Told them where to go and hung up.
I am now getting regular 'prank' calls from this number. I answer and nothing then a computer says 'hanging up' and call terminates. Very annoying!

Getting sick and tired of this phone number calling me every morning and waking me up. Managed to answer once claiming to be talk talk and there was a "problem" with my computer. I say there's no problem? And I DO NOT EVEN HAVE A COMPUTER!  They swiftly hung up but one day I had 16 missed calls from them. Is there any way it can be blocked?

Had same call claiming to be from talk talk, he even had my account number but I refused to confirm it, I've had these before and talk talk told me they would not contact me on any other number than the one I have listed for them. He got fed up and hung up. My advice is "treat this number like the plague"

Same experience as above. Regular calls from this number claiming to be TalkTalk when evidently not. They directed my partner to a website which downloads "security" systems for the computer, which include allowing this remote computer access to ours. Do not respond or give any details!! I only wish I knew what to do about them calling....

I keep getting calls from this unusual number and when I pick the phone up saying nothing, there is silence there and the call ends. I guess it is an automated computer call. I think the best response if they talk to you to say that you have no computer.
Does 'Whocallsme' report these scam-calls anywhere? I understand that it is a crriminal offence what these fradulant callers do.

Had a call from this number today, they claimed to be from Talk Talk.  We have had quite a few of these, but today we decided to see what this guy wanted.  He proceded to ask my husband to press the Windows key and Del and R, then asked him to type EVENT VWR and press ok then type empty then press Windows key.  Of course we didn't do any of these actions, but just wanted to see what they wanted.  We then told them we were on BT to which they were surprised and put the phone down.  If this was legit they would already know we were a customer.

FRANKLY TALK TALK SHOULD BAR THESE NUMBERS. But apparently they have given our details out and/or their own Indian staff are moonlighting/breaching data protection laws.

Exactly the same thing here. Several silent calls, and then when I finally answered to a person (luckily I'd already read this thread) he said he'd cut off my internet and that my computer would be damaged if I didn't follow his instructions. Again, he had my name, TalkTalk account number, everything. As GeoffM says above, there has obviously been a serious breach of data protection at TalkTalk or their call centre employees are making money on the side. I've had nothing but problems with TalkTalk since they first took over from AOL broadband and this is really the last straw; I am furious.

Barring these numbers won't do any good because this isn't a real number. They've tried to masquerade it as a UK number through the fake "0044" prefix. But 1471 never tells you "0044" when you receive a genuine call and there aren't even enough digits in it. Also, I checked the number again after I spoke to the guy and 1471 was unable to give the information.

Had a call from them yesterday said they where from Talk Talk and started to ask was my computer working Ok, before they could go any further I asked the woman where she was calling from, London she said , I said I am from the Fraud Squad and I will put a trace on this line to which she hung up. On checking the number on reverse call up found it to come from Chennai India. They also used 00180057 and that one is from Delhi India.

Third call from them today, on the third call someone was actually there unlike the two previous calls, each time i did 1471 to see the number that called. On the third call when i spoke to someone it was difficult to understand the accent, i got him to repeat himself and he said he was from talktalk and could i turn on my computer for him, alarm bells rang for me and so i said i did not have a computer he went oh uummmm and then the line went dead. so i would have to say this is some sort of scam, beware.

    mad at talk talk
just had another call from this number. told him I didnt believe he was from talk talk. he became quite aggressive and made a point of letting me know he had my address. am quite worried now. talk talk dont seem to care and have told me to be more careful with my details. I dont have printed bills from them and we shred everything before burning it. I believe talk talk have had a security breach and are trying to cover it up.

This is a well known scam that has been going for years.
The link with TalkTalk is new though.
I've had innumerable calls from these guys on different numbers for a long time.

They ALWAYS have heavy Indian accents, and ALWAYS give an English name, like Paul or James. Yeah, right.
They get you to run a utility on Windows computers called EVNTVWR (Short for 'Event Viewer')
Then they point out the APPARENT faults shown up by this utility.
These are NOT faults, and will appear even on a brand-new installation of Windows (any version)
Then they try to get you to allow them to take control of your PC, and eventually they say they can fix your (non-existent) 'problems'.......for a fee.
I used to string them along for a while, before telling them they my computer is a Mac (which is true) and these 'problems' don't exist on Macs.
Now I just block every new number they try to call me on.

Had 3 phone calls from this number yesterday that I missed, and two again today - one early this morning that I again missed, and one about 10 minutes ago which I answered. The bloke said "hello, my name is ___ (can't remember but it was likely fake anyway) and I am calling from TalkTalk, we're just calling because we've received information that over the past two weeks someone has been trying to hack your computer for illegal purposes."
I didn't hear anything else of what he had to say because I just said "Yeah right, ok mate" and hung up.

I'm now about to ring up TalkTalk to speak to them about this as there must be a security breach somewhere - the only people who have my TalkTalk home number is TalkTalk themselves and family members. I haven't given it to anyone or anything else as I'm often not home during the day to receive calls, so I only ever give my mobile number out - so somewhere at TalkTalk my details have obviously been leaked.

Just got off the phone with TalkTalk, the lady said they've received  calls about this number before and she'd be forwarding it to the area of the company that deals with this sort of thing. Aside from that all she could really suggest was the last caller barring feature.

I also found this on the TalkTalk website to report phone numbers making these sorts of calls, and if they find wrongdoing they'll block the number across their whole network. https://www.talktalk.co.uk/help/report-scam.html

My advice would be if you're getting calls from this number, phone up TalkTalk on 0870 444 1820 so you can report it there AND report it through the website. Hopefully if TalkTalk get spammed with people complaining about and reporting this number, they'll do something about it.
