Hi, I'm getting up to 50 calls per day, it really sucks. It's mainly from two +74 numbers and +4951234567.
It's also from a few other numbers but only a couple of times a day.
Anyone have any ideas how I can get them to stop?

I got also calls were they ask for Mike, but from a different number (also from +495123467). The other numbers that I get calls from are +74996666610 and +74951386410. Always with the same recording. Is there any way to stop this calls? I had to put out my voicemail already because of this calls. Thinking about getting an other number :(

I am based in New Zealand and have been receiving similar calls for the past 8 months. The caller states, "Hello... Do you hear me? Can I speak to Mike please? Mike Hutchinson". The frequency has escalated and I am now receiving over 25 calls per day!

    Here are the details.

Each call lasts for about 30 seconds and then hangs up irrespective of my response. The line is not always clear and the voice not always discernible but over time I have been able to put together the whole message; sometime it is quite clear. Initially I thought this was a real person on the line but it soon became evident that this is a computer generated voice.

The calls escalated to the point where I finally got my telecoms provider to change my number; very inconvenient.

Is this perhaps a virus manifesting itself over VOIP?

Below is a sample of the calls which I have logged (times & numbers where available). Not all calls present a caller ID originating from China; some show as 0000; other as "Private Number". I would guess that the caller IDs are being spoofed and that calls are routed through multiple VOIP providers
as there are different caller ID presentations.

I'm based in London, and I get calls from this guy too! I think I had it from him twice a few weeks ago (but the dates not too close together), so I just thought it was someone who dialed the wrong number.  But then I get this number calling me 10.50, and then again now at 22.11! In the morning, it displayed the +4951234567; and then in the evening, it said unknown number! Seriously, this has got to stop!

I suggest that you report this to your service provider. Let them know that there are other subscribers experiencing the same type of calls and ask them to involve their call investigation team. Referring them to this discussion thread (and the following articles) would also be useful. When I reported it to my service provider they told me that I was not the only one experiencing these calls.

    See the following articles:

This looks like spamming has been taken to a whole new level and the only way to rid yourself of the problem in the short term is to change your phone number and ensure that your new number is not published on any websites.

Current thought on one point which is common to all those being plagued by these 'Robocalls' is that their targeted phone number has at some stage been published on the internet.

If you are a victim of these calls, try Googling your phone number (in various forms with quotes " " ) to see whether it comes up. From what I understand the target numbers have been harvested off the net and possibly then onsold to this phone spammer.

Let us know if you fall into this category, ie. your number has found its way onto the Internet on some webpage and you are receiving the calls.

I have had to change my number - a major inconvenience. The lesson which I have learnt is to ensure that my new mobile number does not get published on any website.

    Hi all.
I concur with SeaGee : report to provider. It is important the info circulates.

Yet where I don't fully agree with SeaGee is on the "change number". This is a race. There is no way one can control where private information is published or not. It is enough to have one single good-willing-but-naive friend to forward a single email to many other "friends" to have your private data exposed and subsequently scavenged-on by  mal-spy-root-bot-spam-u_name_it:wares.

I eventually think it is better to cough up some Euros on a mobile phone featuring good filtering capabilities. That is my personal conclusion after having tried to address the issue on the provider side. It may not be cheap, yet this IMHO the  much better thna to change phone number, and once in your hands, there is no zig-zagging-delaying any more: one call => one filter => end of story move one, go for a relaxed beer. :-)

    Hi again.
After a read at "Gizmo puts cold callers on hold" from BBC
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7682111.stm I eventually succeed in imagining a scenario making sense.

Reminder: I got the "Mike Hutchinson" scam call - started at about oct/nov 2007 - from a seemingly private land line phone ID. When I try to phone back no one pick-up ever. So for me it makes no sense: who is getting anything out of that ? The scam stopped with me by Jully 2008. Don't know why.

There is this ongoing classic "silent phone call" scam: One get 1 or 2 rings. Not enough time to pick-up, so callback, and discover too late the phone id is over-charged. It's clear where the money goes, and likely not too hard to track the guilty.

Could the new scenario be: Same goal i.e. generate money-making callbacks. But in order to protect the one making money, drown one real but trackable from-phone-id amongst many random meaningless from-phone-id. In brief: generate lots of noise to hide valid and guilty signal. Still... who is paying for the call when I receive it ? I am at loss.

    Ciao.

    Really Annoyed
I saw this in other forum:
    =====
Anyone receives calls from this robot "Mike" should report it to their local authority with EXACT time and date when they received this call.
It looks like some suspicious person or organizations using this method by calling hundreds of random numbers which they stored in their database, just in order to hide their own calls among them. These calls may come from a hacked telecoms switch server. So please remember:
1- Do not listen to the message. So that the call is less than 5 seconds and you can proof that you didn't actually "talked" with any suspicious person
2- report it to your local authority with date-time of the call.

I'm located in St. Lucia, and it happens several times a day. This started in May 2009. Now we realize when we try to make a call on our first line we don't always get a tone to dial out. has anyone else had this problem?
