Got a call from a man claiming to be from windows saying my computer is sending error reports and I HAVE to fix it now, telling me to turn on my computer so he can help. I said no, and that how could he prove he was legit and that I felt he was just calling to trick me into something. He got very frustrated with me and said that within a week my internet will be gone and computer dead unless I do what he says. I said no, he said "you watch within a week your computer and Internet will be dead and I will enjoy" I replied "ok bye".

answer phones picks it up American accent saying 'goodbye' used to ring frequently then stopped, just restarted again. That's why I leave answer phone on to filter calls, a real pain.

They will ask you for remote access to your computer to install a fix.

What they are actually doing is stealing as much personal data from your computer while they are doing it.

    Avoid like the plague.

    It's phishing.

Call this morning. Claim to be from server report. listened for a while, then told the person at the other end did they understand they were working for crooks trying to steal person information, and how did she feel about making a living that way.
She said she could't understand me, and hung up.

Had the very same number call me Cynthia told me my computer had sent her a message, and she needed me to switch mine on and let her fix it...so I said hold on...😆.....and left her hanging, I then took handset into toilet, flushed toilet and left handset on cistern with hands free on, whereby I could hear her saying hello hello, so I switched on taps and generally clattered around, I returned  to the comfort of my sofa, where she was repeatedly saying hello, so in a puffed out voice I said the computers on now....and she said are you in front of it...no I said its upstairs, and my phones downstairs, she said can you bring it upstairs I said no it's fixed on the wall downstairs, but if she wanted to tell me what I needed to do I could go back upstairs...and comeback down again....she thought she had a gulible elderly lady on...she upped her game and said my computer was being hacked server side and they were trying to get my password for email address and my banking, so I feigned shock and horror, and a few sobs which spurred her to push further and tell me to call them on their number so she could have access to my computer to fix the problem.

After a few feigned attempts I took the number she wanted me to call back on

0121 286 0666 ask for Cynthia and she will sort the nasty hackers for you. I pressed her on costs and she said diagnosis was free...we all know what that means right...

So I went off into a little sob about my son being the one who fixed my computer, and I wanted to know if my computer was talking to her right now, and how nice of Mr Gates get his personal people to call me and help unfortunate. Then I went into distressed mode, asking if I should call my bank and reports he matter, but she said no she could fix it, and was no need to alert the bank as it was server side and she needed access to my network to fix it for me....I continued to wind her up and she continued to push for me to call her back at the birmingham number so she could help me, I even pointed out if I rang her back I would still not be able to be seated at my computer at the same time as telephoning her, and she again asked me if I had a mobile phone, to which I replied no I'm a pensioner dear, oh what if they steal my pension out my bank, I must call them and tell them, she repeated that I had a pension, and assured me the bank didn't need to be involved. I was stifling my laughter, but equally concerned that these con artist would push someone who was obviously and easy target. I then again reiterated that she would fix my hacking issues for free, but I was still concerned my bank had been hacked and I thought I should alert my son, and the police, to which she said they didn't need to know.

I then ended the call in a tearful manner saying I would call the police and give them Cynthia's name and birmingham number listed above, to which she still was responding I didn't need to do that...and I put the phone down.

these companies must get our number from internet service providers either current or past, to that end I will be reiterating to my service provider to not to RENT mail lists nor sell my details.

I am with TPS it makes no difference to these companies based overseas. Scam and phishing

Had this number call this morning.  I am ex-directory and TPS... and I work in financial crime prevention.

As soon as the person said "Hello, ma'am, I'm Matt and I'm calling from the Windows Server Centre", my reply was "I bet you are".  Hung up.  Would have loved to play along but I get a lot of these and I just don't have the time.

For anyone who thinks these are for real, don't.  They are scammers aiming to access your personal data from your computer.

Would have expected you to know that TPS cannot help with calls from overseas and that being XD only stops your number appearing in the published directory, no more than that.

Usual Windows scam differentiated from others by caller turning very abusive (go f**k yourself) when I started asking some questions...

This number keeps calling my answer machine and doesn't leave a message. I haven't answered it as I have read it is a man from Windows trying to get information about my computer.

Phone rang this morning, 16th December 2014, and this number appeared in the display.  My husband held the phone and waited for the answerphone to cut in, but no message was left.

Mixture of laughter and fury reading your report. Just wondering did you report it to the police or somewhere like scambook? If not probably a good idea to do that as I worry about vulnerable people falling fowl of these scammers.
