Called 13 Jan 2009 ca. 1030 hrs saying there was a problem with our computer and offering to connect to "Click" for a free advice. Heavy Asian accent. I hung up and 1471 gives number witheld.
just received call telling me they would sort out my problems - being a real novice fell for it and it was only when they wanted my credit card delails I got afraid. They said I had to pay for a warrenty contract for a year. They moved stuff across the screen and had me fooled for ages.Find all this frightening as I know so little.
I frell for this, They wanted £54, gave credit card details. They then took £222, 4 years subscription. Not able to get antything back, would not allow me to cancel and bank wont help.
Bank allowed money to leave even though it would send me overdrawn. I cannot affiord this as i am a pensioner. Beware
re Supportonclick scam, support onclick scam, support on click scam -
I too got the cold call saying that my computer had "slowed-down" and was infected with the "Trojanvirus" and that they could "help" removing it, I was suspicious from the start but the Indian-accented lady stayed on the line for about 15 minutes of questioning, she had answers for everything, whilst they were not convincing technically I can understand why some may find her (or her colleagues) plausable.
This is a scam (as can be seen from other postings on this thread), and I have reported it to my local Trading Standards department, I would encourage others to do so too if they have the misfortune to get a call. Trawling the internet I see that Staffordshire County Council has a warning specifically about this outfit and there are victims in both America and Australia. These cowboys appear to be based in Calcutta, India. Putting these con-men (and women) out of business would presumably be down to the Indian legal authorities, I can't believe that what they do is less illegal under Indian law than it is elsewhere in the world.
An man with a heavy Indian accent - calling himself Kevin Parker- Insisting that I go to my computer so he can talk me through how to prevent my Windows package deteriorating?!! I questioned him & he had answers for everything...not all made sense! He asked where i purchased my Pc. Continued to pursuade e to sit in front of my PC- I refused & asked him to send further details through the post- he says the company cannot do that & that I really ought to sort it out straight away. I asked for a number to call back-this is what i was given- otherwise the call number was witheld. He informed me that the office shuts at 3.30 & he would ring me back tomorrow at 10am When I told him noone would be her he told me he will phone at 8.30 & to make sure I am sitting in front of the pc when he calls. FOUND THIS AND AM SURE ITS A SCAM!!
Just had a call from the same number. From "David Brown" no way was he called tht with his accent. But, he was asking me to go onto manage programs on my computer which i followed, after varies objections as to why and where he was calling from but then stopped, mainly because i didnt understand a word he spat out. I then asked for his number which he gave to me and i looked on these sites to check it out. Ive now rung him back and given him a ear full telling him never to ring me again etc. If anything goes wrong with my comp in the next few weeks I know who to blame. Although luckily I didnt give him a chance to get onto and control my comp. running various virus checks now to be safe.
My Advice to others, and myself, take their details down immideatly before getting drawn in as I almost did and ring your computers company ie microsoft dell etc to see if its legit.
Got a cold call, alarm bells rang immediately, stating I had an unwanted programme on my computer causing problems. Asked me to go through some things. I know a little about computers so alarms bells rang even louder. He got me onto the web, onto a support page that required a 6 digit number. I assume, from others, that's where the credit card would have come in. I ended the call with his name, Max, although he sounded Indian, and a telephone number, this telephone number. I called Microsoft and then knew it was a hoax.
I've just looked up the other number he gave me, 01274 449 373. Nothing came up on the internet. Oh, by the way, he knew information about me, telephone number, address, etc, which I DIDN'T tell him. So - beware.
My daughter received a call from a David Johnson, who while being unable to speak clear english, told her that she had problems with her computer and he could fix it for her. Not having a clue how computers work she became worried and followed his instructions right up to the "you need to pay £65 to get the 6 digit code to enter into the box" when much to his annoyance she said if there is anything wrong with my computer then my dad will do the paying as he set it all up for me, you had better ring him.
Thankfully she had the sense not to pay but I wonder how many other folk, especially those living on their own, and older people, who are not into the "how it works" have ended up paying these &^%%^$% for a service they dont need.
Just had a call from guy with strong Indian accent - obviously a call centre -telling me their Research and Development department had information that my computer was infected with malware and was running slowly - "is it a Windows PC and IS it running slowly?".
I refused to answer any questions but I demanded to know if they had specfic information about me or my PC. He said no, then he said yes which they had got from the Local Area Network (a phrase he repeated often and with great emphasis). When asked he gave his name as Eric Edward (yeah, right) and was happy to give the name of the company (Support Onclick in Bradford) and phone number (yes our friend 01274 etc and also 01274 449 373) so I could check it.
I'd say it's a definite scam, the kind that "bullies" the technically less savvy into handing over control of their PC.
My partner took two calls from an asian sounding guy called Ron!! at Support on click in Bradford saying that they had found a problem with windows in my area. I didn't reply, he called again the next day saying for me to go to my computer, I told him that I didn't have the computer there as I was suspicious of Ron and thought it was a scam. He left two telephone numbers to call back on (01274 900834 & 01274 449373). Since then I tried looking for Support on click via the yellow pages but could not find them, and when I googled the telephone number I found all of these comments, I am so glad I did not fall for this as I was experiencing a problem but did not know how he could have known this
I also got duped by a cold caller called Josh O'Brien with a heavy Asian accent(on Friday 25 April 2009.) At the time of his call I was experiencing a problem with Microsoft updates. Only having bought my laptop in January this year and knowing nothing about computers, I was talked into letting him control my PC, he said I had a virus and his Technician was cleaning it. He then told me that I needed to pay £58 for their services which would last for a year and gave me a 6 digit warranty pin number to write down. Then asked for my credit card details. I stupidly told him I have Maestro and could pay via Pay Pal. He said that they didnt take Maestro and that they were having problems with Pay Pal and would only accept VISA or Mastercard and told me to phone my bank and get one sent. Alarm bells were ringing loud and clear now. He said he would phone back tomorrow morning at 11am with the results of the diagnostic report and tell me what caused the virus. I did not sleep well that night worrying what I had got myself into.He gave me his phone no: 01274-4900834, if I should need to contact him. He did not ring back, but I had another call late afternoon by someone with an Asian accent and not speaking very good English, asking if I had a problem with my computer. I said no and put the phone down. I am so glad I visited this site and read the other comments about these rogues. Why are this outfit allowed to continue their dirty ticks and how did they get my telephone number. BE WARNED
I have also got a call. They gave me a free service which satisfied me & I have bought a service which is for 1 year. Few days ago i have a problem with my printer. I called to them & they solve my problem within 30 minutes.
Ya they called me also & gave me a free service. Their service was pretty good and my computer is running excelent till now. But i couldn't buy their service because of money problem. But whenever i'll have some money. I will try to buy their service.
Just received a call which follows the same pattern as outlined numerous times above. I don't know if it's coincidence, or luck, that this chap called just 2 days after my PC became infected by some malware, which I successfully removed using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware software - well it says it has removed it :-/ After asking the caller a number of times which PC was infected (my home PC or work PC) and which company he was calling from - I became suspicious and asked for his number (said I would call him back after lunch, etc..) which I immediately Googled - and found this thread. I'm wondering if these people wrote the malware that infected my PC which, inturn, let them know where/who I was?
