- Tuoza| 1 replyGot a call from a lady today thanking me for my support of the police and emergency services by taking advertising space in their publication Overdrive Magazine. I had no recollection but she made me doubt myself for a while telling me that back in March I agreed to an eighth of a page ad and I would have an exclusive ad for my profession. She then asked how I wanted to be invoiced, (I said 14 days to avoid handing any other details over) and was told I would be hearing from the company doing the artwork for my ad when I could discuss what I wanted.I came off the phone and wondered what that was all about when within 2 mins the call from the artwork guy came- he wanted to take down credit card details etc and was offering a 10% discount if I paid today (he wasn't interested at all in what wording etc or exactly what I did) which is when I started googling! I have since logged the calls with the police and wanted to warn others!!!
- MarkHad exactly the same call today.

- Josh replies to TuozaJust had the same call. I didnt give them my card details. I thought it was dodgy!
- BenHad the call as described by Tuoza. The sales pitch then the art work guy. Gave me a verbal contract. then another call from the sales guy confirming all went well. I asked a bit more about the distribution of the magazine and he became very vague and said all is in the paper work we will send you. The call ended there. I wasnt 100% sure so i googled and found this page. I am going to my local police station to report it. These guys need shooting!

- Simon Jobson| 1 replyJust got the exact same call, a guy telling me that I can have a full page advert in a magazine that goes to 120,000 people every month for a whole year for just £300. The price alone made me think that it HAS to be a scam. I told him I was in the middle of a supermarket and couldnt confirm anything yet, just so I can check out the legitimately of the call. Turns out my suspicions were true
- Caller: Police Federation (supposedly)

- Posh PlumberI've just had a call from this number as the art dept to work on my ad in Overdrive Police Magazine.
The company is ModePR and they have a website.
I did not take up their offer as the sales caller was claiming to be from the Police and I was suprised that they would have time to make cold calls.
His initial introduction was to assure me that I was not in trouble with the Police but he was representing the Police Federation to raise funds through advertising in the magazine.
He said he was local to me and when I mentioned I worked closely with our local Police force in a community project and mentioned a couple of names I expected him to know, the caller went silent before saying that ModePR would contact me with further details.
This is a scam. I've looked them up and they are linked to a dissolved company Advanced Publications with the same managing director. All based in Liverpool.
Google Overdrive Magazine for more info.- Caller: ModePR

- Gary J| 1 replyIve just received a caller from 01512365532.. Saying we are a publishing company who are are looking for genuine business's, are thus naming and shaming rogue traders, cowboys, scammers and so (and i thought does this include yourselves?), we have selected you after extensive research... So I asked for his name and number and would call him back, at this point, he said that i wouldnt get him and so he hung up... So ive just rung the number, and as expected this turned out to be scammers, I spoke to a chap who was reluctant to give me his details, but could hear in the background like a call centre.. So beware another liverpool area telemarketer scammer / rogue trader I suspect.

- PDA replies to B the driving instructorYes same thing today from Jeff the CPO with follow up call from Mode PR.
Jeff quoted me a cost of £245 - I asked if this was plus VAT, he asked if I was VAT registered so I said no. He said therefore he would include the vat as long as I didn't tell anyone. Interesting - surely that's fraud? Mode PR then quoted me a cost of £200 plus vat taking it to £240 but with a discount taking the cost to £228.
I shall await their follow up call tomorrow. - Richard from LeedsI have just had the same call as others on here today Monday 24th September 2012. A guy called Graham Edwards from the Federation of British Police Motor Clubs. Told me a load of spiel about the magazine and its go's out to all the emergency service workers (police, fire and ambulance) Told me my advert would be police approved (which I thought to be very suspicious as I am not aware of the police approving local plumbers as I am) He 'sold' me a half page for £295 + VAT for four issues of the magazine. Within two minutes of getting of the phone to him, I received a call from the 'art work department' at MODE PR UK LTD. The bloke was wanting me to enter into a verbal contract with them for the sum of £295 + VAT for the advert. I stopped him there and said I would like to do a bit of research on them and the magazine this evening before committing to anything. The bloke just said "Ok, I will send the details out in the post for you to look at". I thought this was even stranger as he didn't seem interested in the sale anymore. Now after googleling the Overdrive magazine and Mode PR (which seem to be legit? I think) I have now come across this website and all the bad reviews. I am so glad I told the guy I was going to do research first. We will see if I receive anything in the post. I will definitely be taking it further with the police, trading standards and Mode PR. I will keep you updated.

- Ian Mathison| 1 replyI had a similar conversation to Richard from Leeds with Graham Edwards from "Overdrive" and a conversation with Graham Watson from ModePR, got a bit suspicious so contacted a serving and a retired bobby that I know to see if they knew of the publication which naturally came back in the negative. Went on the Police Federation websitewhere there is a statement saying that they had nothing to do with ModePR (see http://www.polfed.org/pr_pfew_hq_statement_with_regards_to_modepr_190711.pdf for deatails). I have emailed ModePR saying that I believe them to be scammers and not to contact me again, and have reported this to both the Police Federation and Lancashire Constabulary.
Let's see what happens- Caller: Overdrive / ModePR

- Nicola WilkesI too have received a call from MODE PR this afternoon selling me an 1/8 page advert. 10 mins later I received a call from their artwork people. When I questioned whether I would be expected to give them card details over the phone they said "of course not, we'll get a pack sent out to you today" then promptly hung up. I thought it sounded strange so did 1471 and got the telephone number and googled it. Then saw all these posts so really pleased I didn't get sucked in...

- RebeccaHad a call yesterday (12th Aug) from witheld. sounded pretty legit i thought, he said he would call back today (13th aug) after i had thought about advertising with them at the cost of £295 + VAT for a full page ad 4 times a year in Overdrive mag for the police, he called back today so i agreed, the artwork dept then called 10 mins later and took all my details (not bank/card details though!) to send me out a info pack - i then decided to google the artwork number and found all this .. im glad i did! Ive just called the press dept at north yorks police who said that they are a real mag, however they are not commissioned by the police to produce this mag and they do not work for the police however realistic they sound otherwise! the police force do receive the mag but it is shortly thrown in the bin and not read! A waste of money is what he said!!!
so im now waiting for calls back to cancel my order pronto! erg- Caller: Mode PR / Police federation re Overdrive magazine
