look i'm ex directory where have they got my name and number from?

Called to say they wanted to help save me money during the credit crunch.  I think the company was called something like SCS or similar.  I asked how they got my number and was told I must have filled out a survey or somehting similar.  When I said I did not do that as my number was ex-directory the caller just said again that I must have filled something out.  THey has my correct name but I did not confirm that.

Have also just been called by this number. The man said is your name ????. I replied no and he said "oh it must be previous owners name", (it wasn't). He then started on about saving me money. I told him I was a member of TPS and he should'nt be cold caling me. This diodn't stop him so I just put the phone down.

got a call from this number and i didn't answer it, they seem to be very busy at the mo as they have made so many calls in no time. tried to call them back but it just says to leave a message. i also are ex-directory and not filled in anything recently

They have rung me twice today and then don't speak but I can hear them in the bcakground?

Got a call from that number but didn't pick up as i get so many of these calls. Thank god for caller ID. I figure if i don't recognise the number they can either leave a message or call my mobile if it's important.
This cold calling makes working at home a real hassel!

OK guys...think I know where you are being hit from this one. It explains "previous names". If your line or number was a former Bulldog Broadband number then it may well be the result of a compromised database that was sold by a disgruntled ex-employee when they returned to Pakistan. Cable&Wireless whom bought Bulldog tried to prosecute the person as they have contravened not only the internal policies and procedures but also contravened the Data Protection Act and possibly other acts. Try and find out where they got the information from.. tell them they were done and that they are breaking the UK data protection act if the source is from a compromised database and if you are ex-directory the UK Telephone Preference Scheme and you are going to report them to OFCOM

Rcvd call at 4:00PM today (Friday 7th); seems he got hold of some very personal information but we're ex-directory so somehow rang my mother. Unfortunately, Rob was very plausible; mum gave him our tel number, he rang my wife who told him to not contact us again but Rob promised to ring us back between 5:00PM & 5:30PM today. Didn't get a company name but am now very angry!

Got a call earlier on and they left this message:

"Hello? Hello Mr. xxxx? You pay your overdraft, you owe us money you [***]. Hello mr. xxxxx?"

What professional service. As some of you said I got the same answerphone message saying they're busy when I tried to call them. I hope they call again I will rip them apart!

Just got the same call, although I am signed up to TPS for a couple of years & hardly ever get marketing calls!
I said I was signed up, but the bloke continued 'we are not trying to sell you anything...' (so that makes it OK then????). Asked if I was interested in making savings during credit crunch, I nearly fell off my chair laughing!!!
I have submitted complaint form to TPS - this scam is a joke!

Confirmed my name and hung up!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have had 2 calls wishing to quote for a kitchen that I don't want. I'm also x directory so where do they get the number from?

This is extremely irritating as I work from home and this kind of pestering distracts me from my work.  All you can really do (if you have caller display) is to pick up then hang up immediately without talking to them.  That way, it costs them a phone call for absolutely no return.

my mother answered the call they asked to speak to me i was not home so my mother asked what they wanted me for and for them to leave a message and a guy said i had filled in a survey form about a accident in the last 3 years and he wanted to ask me some questions about this and he would ring back. quick thinkig mum rang me to tell me and i had no idea what she was talking about so we guessed this was a scam of some sort. 2 hours later they rang back this time a girl who called herself jodie started asking for me my mother answered and challenged her as to what she wanted to speak to me about and who were they she said it was accident assistance and would only speak to me so my mum told her that i had not filled in any survey and no she would not be speaking to me needless to say she hung up  we are exdirectory so where do they get our number from as we do not give it out when we fill out forms.
