This number keeps calling my house and i do not know who the caller is

It's a debt collection agency

Just be careful as the person who keeps calling me is a Mr White and he is a very nasty bully, he has me terrified that he is getting my goods removed, he will not accept an offer that is of reasonable amount and what I can afford

Any woman called to me from this number and asked me if I have payed for internet from telewest but I have internet from BT. She did not accept this.

These people keep leaving messages on my mother's phone, she is 88 and in a residential home!!  When speaking to one of their operators, she was of the opinion that I could not contact Trading Standards.  These people are a menace and pray on the vulnerable.

Yes i got a call and she wanted me to confirm my address details before she would tell me company name. i wouldnt do this so she said i would get a letter. i hung up. we will see

mu mum is getting calls from this number and they ask to confirm the address but they dont tell what the problem is or why do they want us to confirm the address. Its something about legal issues so i rang them but they wouldnt tell us about it. i dunt have any idea why are they doing that?

this is mackenzie hall, a collection agency based in kilmarnock...they dont give up...they also use the numbers 08009 1772 225 & 01563 354 785, they also withhold the number sometimes...

get a caller id phone, & if with BT get a free answering machine service, it then only rings a few times they then leave a message for which they get charged, you can then check the message theyve left

These are not fake debt chasers - they are legitimate as I have had problems with one of my credit card companies, the result of which I refused to pay them so the account was passed on to Mackenzie Hall for collection.

I agree with other people that they are persistant and a bit bullish. If you are a genuine debtor whose account has been passed to these clowns, don't worry if any finance you won't pay is unsecured - no legal action can be taken against you. They are just bluffing.

If they call you and ask for address details or other personal info don't give it to ANYONE.

I've asked them who THEY are and they wouldn't say coming out with some crap about 'protecting you against the Data Protection Act'. Bollocks!

They seem to be a debt collection agency, but if they were a 'proper' business they would state their company name without hesitation.

they just called me about a scrapped car i scrapped and forgot to tell dvla.keep getting letters even after i informed dvla but the address they have is a forwarding address but they won't stop.

thanks to this website I can now feel at ease.  I get persistent phones - they will not tell me why without me confirming my details.  thanks guys for your posted comment - very reassuring.

These people are mad, they call at my parents house, disclose personal information to family members and constantly bully people.

mackenzie hall are bullies. they are also linked with j2 solutions. both take it in turns to chase the same debt but from what i have looked up on the internet they only buy debts which are 'statute barred' so they cant threaten you with legal action. my mother in law has been harrassed by these bullies for 4 years now over a car that my boyfreind had over 10 years ago. it was reposesed but they still wanted all the money for it. they have rung nieghbours and knocked on their doors trying to find out information. do not give them anything, no matter how annoyed they get. BE VERY WARY OF THESE PEOPLE. they also invent debts and try to scare vunerable people into paying them. and also try to coax them into paying by offering a 'good will gesture' reduced payment.sorry about the long post but they really wind me up .

Yeah i got a call from these people all they wanted was for me to settle my outstanding argos catalogue they didnt seem untoward to me. perhaps you all shouldt have any bad debt then people like this wouldnt need to call you.

Furthermore may i add that the current credit crunch is due to people leaving unpaid bills for years on end.  Yes i agree there methods may be a bit strong but at the end of the day you borrow money you pay it back afterall that is decent thing to do.

I completely agree with Bob.  People would rather go to means on changing phones and phone numbers etc, rather than pay a debt that they actually owe.  Honest people are suffering with the credit cruch because you people run away from debt!!!

Why not pay your debt rather than slander a company.

Er completely wrong to be morally high and mighty in many cases with respect to this firm. I have them on my case and I've never had a bad debt in my life.  This company specialises in tertiary debt which is extremely old. in many cases the debt will be more than 6 years old which means the Statute of limitations comes into play. you need to learn about this whether or not you had a bad debt. take a look at following thread (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=253420) and other threads on money expert about this company. they have a record of making incorrect assumptions on names as well e.g. granny gets chased for relatives debt. they make name errors a lot.
from reading the threads I have learned two basic things. never speak to them on the phone. they just bully you and then there is no record of the conversation in writing. and if you do communicate do it in writing. however if you learn more about the subject you'll probably find that they have no legal basis to collect what they are asking for either because they're asking the wrong person or because they have no legal person due to the age of the debt. hope this helps but do you research and dont answer the phone.
