I've also had a scam letter from Universal Debt Collection about an 'unresolved issue'. I contacted them because I have never heard of them and have no debts and asked them to give details of this so called debt. They replied asking if I had every lived at another address (address given) three years ago!! This is an absolute scam, I reported it to Trading Standards, I advise that everybody else does the same. The more complaints that are put in the bigger the chance that these cowboys can be brought down. They never did say who I was supposed to owe money to or the amount!

I have just contacted the Office of Fair Trading about Universal Debt Collection, they have informed me that they DO NOT have a license for collecting debts. This is a scam, please send your own experiences to the Office of Fair Trading's enquiry address :- enquiries@oft.gov.uk . We must all work together to beat these scammers.

My dad got a letter this week... and he even had to pay £1.30 for the privilege as 'Universal Debt Collection' didn't even put a stamp on the envelope. (I think I need to begin my own debt collection proceedings against them!)

Stuff the OFT, I took the letter straight to the police.

Ring Trading Standards or Consumer Direct. Judging by all the comments on here they are not a reputable company and Trading Standards probably have them on file. Good Luck. In the meantime don't pay them a penny.

These people are harrassing me and threatening me with court, over broadband that i cancelled early due to it never working, a so called 'rolling contract' on the landline, and an early cancellation fee of a mobile i didn't ask for. These people are bullies and the police are now involved in the harrassment of the amount of phone calls i now receive. I advise that no-one pays them a penny and seeks legal action if they bother you.

This company is just the collection department for unicom, full of rubbish, same issue here we run a charity that was running out of money we called them and told them our circumstances after 8 years loyal service. They said it was ok and agreed a date to close the account and phone disconnection.

Next we get collection letter of £700 early termination rang time after time to explain, told them it was a charity actually a community centre and that nothing had been said about early termination of the apparent verbal 5 year rolling contract which had the cleaners name next to it?.

We ended up paying £106 which to be fair was our services up to the date of termination, it’s a real shame companies still get away with bully boy tactics but call them and just be strong if they wish to take you to county court go, tell the judge what you have been put through we were prepared to and actually kept phoning them asking for the date of the hearing as we could not wait to attend.

I too have had calls from these people on the above number, I put a block on and they have now called on 01619464200. I have warned them that if they don't stop calling I will claim compensation for harassment, my time and my expenses. I am now waiting for them to take me to court so I can counter claim.
I have informed trading standards as suggested here.

Anyone interested in a collective action?
