missed this one few times , what or who is it

We had a call from these people today claiming that our sky digi box had run out of warranty *today* and that we had to update it as a matter of urgency. The bloke claimed they were a company called IDS. The man said that if we didn't update the warranty it would cost us £73 per call out if our digi box goes wrong, and over £80 when they bring in digital. He was very abrupt with me, as if he were doing me a favour and I was too stupid to realise it.

As we've had our digi box for about 18 years, moved three times and changed our phone number three times, it's unlikely they actually know us. My husband phoned back and found that to be the truth. They couldn't even give the name of the warranty company that's supposed to be covering the equipment.

We've reported the company and the number to Trading Standards, who say the company have been featured on Watchdog, and that they're going to look into it. They've never had the number till now, so it gives them a good lead.

Recieved the same call as above yesterday evening, was busy and asked the guy to call again this evening. Did a 1471 to get the number and also called Sky who confirmed they had not called me,I'm very glad I did.

called today but had no idea what equipment i had, and I had seen watchdog, so they had no sucess with me

number withheld this time, but the same patter, no idea what system I had but insisted that my warranty was due to run out. They tell me this warranty could have been from i to 3 years long.

this number called me at ten to eight in morning!!!! v annoyed as i work shifts so it woke me up!!! rang off before i get to phone but they never left a message

They have called me several times asking if I wished to renew my Sky warranty. I had no idea that they were not from Sky.

Got a call from IDS the other day trying to sell me an extended warranty. Asked a few questions. IDS are a Maintenance Contract company operating in Arundel. The address for IDS in West Yorkshire is for a completely different company. Checked out the other tel no 885749. That is wrong on BT online directory. They said they were calling re my original 12 month manufacturers warranty having run out & wouldn't know if I had taken out a warranty since then.

Just found out that IDS haven't been on Watchdog. They get mentioned in the same bracket as other satellite companies in the area. Satellite Direct have been on Watchdog & are currently being investigated for Fraud. They have no link with IDS. Keep you posted.

Had a call from IDS last night. Said my manufacturers warranty had expired. It expired years ago! Comments made by Mr Smith above are correct. Only info they have is my name, address & tel no. They have no links with Sky & make that plainly clear. They work out of Arundel on the Southcoast of England. Seem like quite a tidy organisation. Advisor was helpful & explained what they do. They are a small business, seeking to cover anyone that may have not got cover for their Sky equipment. When I said wasn't interested, they didn't push it.

Can BT bar this number this will stop a lot of hassil!!!!

had a call from same number but missed it and so rang them back said same to me as others sky warranty had run out told them i never had sky and wouldnt be getting it he just said""very sorry to bother you"" and rang off

Just missed the phone - no message left and I thought I'd google it before calling back.  Glad I did now I've seen the comments.

OMG!!  I can't believe this is a scam!!  
I googled this number as it kept ringing and ringing about 30mins ago whilst i was putting my children to bed and found this site!
This company has been ringing me every 3-4 days for the past 3wks. I told the lady i spoke to (Someone called Katie) that my partner delt with all the bills so he would have to speak to her so i'd get him to ring back- That was 2 days ago and they're already ringing back!

I want them to ring back now so i can tell them i know what their game is!! lol!

Had a call from 01903881430, claiming to be a company called IDS, a very nice young lady however, me being 21 she continued to compliment the sound of my voice, and if I was on Facebook, can she add me?...What sort of mickey mouse organisation is this? Needless to say a waste of my time as I certainly know my equipment is covered by Sky even though it hasn't even been a year since everything was first connected. Be very aware of potential scammers as they tried to swindle my mother before speaking to myself.

IDS did sell us a warranty under the Sky banner also Digital Satellite Warranty Ltd two different companies using the same selling method both with the information on the warranty expiry date.Sky are aware of this scam and so are the credit card providers. Don't be fooled Sky are cheaper and offer a genuine product.

I always say, never give your card details when someone calls you, so why did I?
STUPID.....it was late it was the third time she'd called etc etc
Cross ref my Sky repair acctoutr and checked my home files only to see the tel numbers where sooooo different.
Called bank straight away, they were very helpful and they can reclaim payment after 10 days as long as you have called them (IDS or whatever they call themselves) or at least tried, to cancel, - I kept calling but of course no one ever answered!!!!!.
Defo WON'T fall for this type again.
Feel so stupid but as bank says, they are so clever!
