- maggie morrisjust received a call left answer phone on and as usual they put phone down I have found using answer phone as a screen very useful as each day I receive at least 4 nuisance calls. these nuisance calls are frustrating but since using answer phone I don't stress as much.
- AndyI leave my phone in answer mode but this number never leaves a message. If they are not willing to do that I assume they are some sort of tele-sales
- Chiv| 1 replyClaiming the bank had a cheque for me for money I overpaid them & this guy could get it back for me. I found this hilariously funny as tomorrow I have an appointment with my bank manageress, if I was owed money I'd get it back myself no trouble, but I'm not because I never owed anything. This telephone number has now gone into my call blocker, they won't get through again idiots.
Why is it they're always bloody foreigners who can barely speak the English language, so you're never going to trust them on those basis, I don't want to sound racist but that's just fact. There's that many overseas cons & the sound of the voice just puts you off from the start.- Caller: No company name

- Tony| 1 replyGot a call from them today 14th Nov 11.20. Refund of bank charges. She (sounded like an Asian girl) said she was from UK Department of Finance. Knew my surname. I quizzed her, who was the minister etc and was the bank going to refund the charges (playing dumb). She said they had a Ministry of Justice order. Eventually she said she had other calls to make and hung up. I should have got more details. Anyhow I have now reported the number to http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/scam-phone-call-warning-feb11 by phone 0300 123 2040. If you have the time suggest you do the same. Wonder how long the number will remain live from assuming that it is not spoofed.
(Why doesn't this site have a Call Type = Attempted Scam option?)- Caller: Bank scammers

- CathyHave had several calls this week - they hang up when you answer - as if they don't want to talk to the woman of the house. Fine by me.

They said 'Hello' and then hung up.

- Jim GloverThe caller said that they were calling form the UK Financial Services and the bank owed me money, and wanted me to verify my security details, they could not speak English very well and when I asked for a contact number for the FSA to verify the caller, he hung up.

- George DentSecond call in three days. hung up by the time I answered on both occasions? I didn't ring back!
- IanJust got a call from these people, they claimed to be the UK Finance Dept. There was a delay after picking up so it sounds like it is connecting you via some automatic system. They sounded Indian to me. They knew my name and address and offered me a refund of bank charges. They requested my DOB and long card number from my Debit card as proof of ID. They even read out the first 6 digits of my card number and wanted me to complete it. They told me the first six digits were my unique customer ID but of course they pertain to a Card issuer, it is only the last 8 digits that are unique to you and that is what they were after. Hang up on them, or play along and give them false information!
- Caller: UK Finance Dept
- TS| 4 repliesMy husband took this call and passed to me as they were talking about refunding bank charges.
When I queried where they were from the called became abusive told me he was my father then called me
a f****** B***** and hung up. I was understandably shaken - tried to call the action line to report but they were busy I did speak to a receptionist who said this type of scam is on the increase.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CALL they knew my address it was very frightening and I am a mature person who works in business - G replies to TSAlso the same, said i was due a check refund and wanted some details to be able to have the cheque paid into my bank, i went as far as giving my date of birth, but when he asked me for the details of my card i refused and asked him to supply me with his contact details so i could verify his authenticity, at that point he got quite upset, and said "you can’t be calling me back and if you want this cheque i need your details but if you’re not bothered about the money", i told him unless he is going to give me the information i asked for i was hanging up, and at that point i did

- SteveAs everyone else, just received a call from an Indian (sounding guy) stating he was representing some UK financial body working for the government to repay charges into bank accounts. This guy had my address details then asked me to confirm which bank I am with, which he confirmed when I told him and then gave me my first 4 numbers off my card and asked me to then complete the rest of the number. Of course would not do that and asked him that if he,d got my details then he could read the numbers to me! Of course he could,nt. Undoubtedly a scam. I immediately contacted my bank and informed them of the situation. I was not aware until now that the first four numbers from different banks have their own four letter numbers unique to them and it,s the same for all accounts, hence the reason he could quote the four numbers off my card.
