Ths number called me this morning 9.47. when i answered they mumbled something about call back and hung up. as its a no. i didn't know i didnt ring back and then decided to google it and come across this.

Didn't recognise number so didn't answer... did dialling code search and it came up as Wakefield. I have nothing to do with Wakefield so can only assume it's dodgy????

I have had this number call me also and when I answered and said hello the phone just went dead...

I rang the number back and I got an answerphone type message saying:
"We tried to contact you today regarding your insurance policy. Sorry you missed our call, we will try to contact you again later"

What on earth is this??!!

They rang me, I picked up and they put the phone down!!

Just had this.. i didn't answer it as i recognised it as a number that called me yest. i did answer it then.. and it mumbled something about there not being enough operators to take my call.

I suspect it is probing numbers to identify active numbers.

Called several times. Rings only a couple of times then registers a 'missed call' - as above i call back and the "Sorry we missed you....."
Really starting to p*** me off !!

Call received today on my mobile.  Not able to take so dialed back.  Garbled message re my insurance and that they would ring back!Pam

Silenced the number as I was in a meeting and no message left. Odd. Reading this makes me pleased I never answered it.

I have heard that if you answer, and then press the '0' key followed by the '#' key repeatedly, about 4 times each, then hang up, it will think it has got a fax machine, and delete your number from the list permanently.

I CURRENTLY WORK FOR NPOWER, COLD CALLING CUSTOMER TO SWITCH OVER TO OUR SUPPLY. NOW I NO YOU HATE COLD CALLING, I DO TOO BUT LEARNT TO NOT GET ONTO THE PERSON PHONING YOU OR THE COMPANY. ITS NOT THERE FAULT

THE REASON YOU HAVE THESE CALLS IS BECAUSE YOUR DATA IS PASSED FROM ONE COMPANY TO ANOTHER. EXAMPLE: YOU HAVE BEEN ON COFNUSED.COM, BY YOU TICKING OR READING TERMS AND CONDITIONS WHEN YOU DO QUOTES ETC.. YOUR AHREEING FOR YOU INFO TO BE PASSED ON TO CAREFULLY SELECTED COMPANIES. THATS IS WHY YOU GET COLD CALLS. NOW IF YOU WANNA STOP THIS THEN YOU NEED TO RING BT AND BE PUT ON TELEPHONE PREFERENCE SERVICE LIST. THAT WHAY YOUR DETAILS ARE PROTECTED. IF YOU ALREADY ARE ON THE TPS, THEN YOU NEED TO RENEW EVERY 6 MONTHS. BUT EVEN SO IF YOU GO ON WEBSITES, YOUR DETAILS WILL STILL BE PASSED ON. SO DONT AGREE TO WHAT YOU HAVENT READ.. THAT WAY YOU CAN SLAG US, END OF THE DAY I DO A JOB, A GOOD JOB, WITHOUT COLD CALLING ALOT OF PEOPLE WOULDNTY GET GOOD DEALS ETC.. BUT I APPRECIATE ANYONE WHO DONT WANNA BE COLD CALLED.. Called me today and line went dead after I said hello a couple of times

Just to confirm this is to do with insurance. This is a company called direct choice - they underwrite various other insurance and will cold call. They dont have a brilliant telephone system and seem to quite regularly hang up on people they are trying to call! We told them we would be cancelling our car insurance with a company they underwrite for and they have been bombarding us with calls ever since!!! (despite this all being totally legit and us not owing anything etc etc) If you dont want insurance or havent taken any out recently i would say ignore them. And if you are thinking of taking our insurance make sure they arent involved!

Got a call today and never answered it, like someone else said i have just signed up with Direct Choice car insurance and used confused.com price comparison website, so it has obviously came from there.

I had a missed call at 19.13 from this number - they did not leave a message. I don't have home insurance so it can't be that.

It is not correct (as suggested by LEIGH) that Registration on TPS requires renewal every six months.  If you are a private individual, once registered you stay registered.

A properly trained cold caller should not try to mislead people.

This number must ring me twice a week - sunday's mostly. I answered once a while ago and just got mumbled at! I don't mind cold calling, I get it - I don't like them ringing my mobile. I never give it out.

called, i answered and said hello, no reply. then they hung up

Asked to speak with my daughter but she was at work. Asked who was calling and they said nothing to worry about it is the Motoring Organisation and we will call back later.

Called my mums today for me.  Haven't lived at her house for 2 years now so am wary of the caller.

I went online for Home Insurance quote, at elephant.co.uk and entered my mobile number. Within seconds of submitting the quote this number called.
