I've received several of these calls just now, and have had a fair few over the last couple of weeks...sometimes a i get several in the morning, then nothing until the evening.
They always call when i'm waiting on another call, too. I never answer the phone if i don't recognise the number.
If it's a genuine company and they really needed to get hold of you, my point is this - they would leave a message. Any genuine banking company already knows all your personal details and they do not need you to confirm them unless you yourself phone the bank to try and access bank details. Fishy.
So it really is a scam...?
Anything to do with lost Child benefit data..?!
Thanks for the info Google and everyone else!

Good to see a post like yours Adrian. I work in a call centre and while I don't sell anything like this product, i know exactly how these guys must be feeling with all these slanderous comments being made from unintelligent fools whose only capabilities are randomly swearing about something they clearly know nothing about.
It's as simple as this: If you didn't want to receive the calls you should have ticked the box opting out. It's your own stupid faults for not reading what you've signed up to.
Our job is hard enough as it is without morons like you guys jumpiong in head first and slagging off something you clearly don't understand.
Also, i agree with Adrian about the fact that at least these people have got honest jobs rather than being dolies and Chavtastic drug dealing idiots.
Give these people a break. They have a job to do just as you (probably) don't unless you just spend all day slandering people on the internet between your sad little lives gaming and downloading illegal music and films to sell on for drugs.
Plus we're not all uneducated brainless idiots either. Obviously call centre jobs are not careers and this is something i'm doing myself in a gap year.
I'm sure the people at FirstAssist probably aren't considering being in a call centre job for the rest of their working lives. Just don't judge people when you know nothing about how their jobs work when it is YOUR OWN FAULT that you're receiving the calls.

lisa - you seem like perhaps a good person who genuinely does her job well and treats her 'customers' with respect. Unfortunately, the reason why a website like this has been set up is because there seems to be an increase of aggrieved persons like myself who are suffering at the hands of companies who dont seem to take NO for an answer. I have said 'I am not interested' countless of times to companies trying to sell me this or that and it seems to be totally ignored. I dont belive that the Data Protection Act works - (i tick the said 'opting out ' box every time) and yet i am still gettnig junk mail and countless telemarketing phonecalls! This should NOT happen - unless of course our rights (as outlined in the DPA)are being abused.

I note from reading through 11 pages regarding this number, that there is a lot of character profiling from those using the site and those who work in call centres. I am sure that people who work in call centres are as intelligent and friendly as the next person - its not their fault - the fault lies with the manager and the 'executives' who are pressurising the staff to earn their commission  - however this does not excuse their often rude behaviour and thoughtlessness (i.e hanging up the phone, swearing, name calling) as i have experienced first hand.

Also, i am not a chav or a dolite. I work full time and work damn hard. So when i get perstering phone calls whilst i am at work it annoys me and wastes my time. If i was interested in upgrading my phone or switiching accounts, i would have done it myself - i would CALL YOU!

The blame lies with the Managers.
Halifax Bank of Scotland Customer - 6 Dec 2007
Lisa, your attitude is appalling and I fear you will never amount to much in life. I believe pestering people on the phone like this is as "honest" as being the Prime minister.

Today I have forwarded a letter to the main branch of Bank of Scotland in Edinburgh, along with a link to these pages so they can see for themselves peoples concerns. I will also post this to the scambusters.co.uk web site and to “watchdog” when I get back home tonight.

It is funny to read the comments from people claiming to work for this call centre, but your attitude is what most of us would expect from such desperados. If this number is genuine then I hope the abysmal bad mannered staff that man the phones and hang out here, will be sacked.

I have come on here again tonight after my post afew days ago as my partner answered the phone tonight and heard what sounded like a chinese man on the phone. He thought it was his friend messing about (as his mate did used to put voices on when he rang)and told him that no chinese voice would fool him as he could hear a woman in the background that he assumed was his mates girlfriend. Eventually this chinese sounding voice (not anything coherant) hung up on my partner. I checked the 1471 to see if it was his mate and found it out to be the 02031035180 number!!!!! What sort of a phone call is that??? If this is a genuine halifax associated company why are they ringing me up time and again, why at about 8.15 at night which is not on and why is it someone apparently speaking foreign and hanging up! Why are some people on this board expecting us to be tolerant and understanding of this? TPS is certainly a waste of money!

Google "Halifax phone scam", and you will see a few more resons why
"YOU SHOULD NOT GIVE YOUR DETAILS TO ANYONE"

BE WARNED: The Halifax and it's customers are regular targets for phishing scamming criminals!

Could these calls be related in any way to the Halifax suspending it's online banking in october this year due to a PHISHING SCAM?

John - 6 Dec 2007
Yeah you bunch of criminals, check the link!

Im amazed how at the start of this site it was for people looking up numbers and posting how many times they have been called and to be wary. Suddenly, all these so called "call centre staff" for some STRANGE reason all start flocking to this site to try and convince people they are really genuine! Are they scared people are getting wise to scams like this? My friend at work recieved a unknown number on thier mobile. I googled the number and found it to be a genuine scam. Thanks to the internet, the innocent public can now fight back and not be conned into these scammers tricks. It amazes me how 1 minute these agents are telling us they are genuine nice people and if we ask, we will be removed from thier marketing, the next how they say its OUR FAULT for not ticking boxes in the small print and we should then expect/allow to be called none stop at all hours and not mind? its pathetic.

If your new to this site, stay vigilant and if any doubt, keep your personal detals to yourself. Never trust someone whos called you unexpectedly, Unticked boxes or not its a disgrace.

Re Halifax Customer: Along with your forwarded letter to HBOS maybe it would have been prudent to have requested some form of documentation that the afor- mentioned financial institution had not indeed SOLD our details in order to source extra revenue. How else do you think they will replace funds lost to all those who reclaimed their rip-off bank fees. And come to think of it fund those expensive tv ads! I await (in vain, no doubt) for their denial.  Nice posting Adrian, am pleased to see its not just the dreggs of society that use this site!!
Fed-up - 7 Dec 2007
Just to confirm that Emailing The idiots @ HBOS security department gets a senseless irrelevant automated reply which is totally useless to anyone, which wont be a surprise any of you here I’m sure, esp Damian ;o)

this is so clealry a scam, pathetic, the callers have both been african and as far as i know the halifax dont use the phone to confirm details. been away so wasnt aware of the benefit data c**k up till got home so was wary the first time anyway! Shout of laugh at them next time and eventually they will know we all know its a scam...the halfifax would know your DOB and post code! If they are gathering data and possibly overseas they will steal our identities so beware. Asked Halifax and didnt want to know basically so no protection from them directly/ BE vigilant and they will be exposed on TV or something so watch this space. Thanks for this site tho! reassuring I am not the only one!

Received call 19.30 today.  Said she was from Halifax bank and wanted to check my security details.  Said I have no dealings with Halifax.  They said I must have applied for a credit card.  I haven't.  I said they shouldn't contact me as I am signed up to the telephone preferencing service and do not receive cold calls.  She said I had asked them to call. She asked for date of birth and said it was to confirm details on screen.  At this point I said I was not interested in any services and hung up.  If I had go an account with the Halifax, I may have been duped by this.  There were delays in the conversation - I think the call was from overseas.  The female caller had an oriental accent.

Sounds like one i had yesterday. It seems as tho they are reading from a script/flowchart of "how to scam people". I am also with a different bank, have NO credit cards and nothing like what they seem to claim we take out. Its definately dodgy. Next week when they ring they will probably say ive wonn £200,000 and i just need to send £3000 to unlock the solicitor fees lol Ive heard em all! very dodgy, just say NO.
