Sounds aweful, but I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I just (last 10 minutes) got a call from some punk called 'Antony' said he was from the Halifax, saying that he needed to confirm my date of birth and post code.

suffice to say I didn't oblige. :)

This number called me 12 times in the past week:

Just had a call from this number asking for my dad (by name), who wasn't in at the time - should've asked who was calling but stupidly forgot! they said they'd call back but it looked dodgy so i thought i'd google it

had numerous missed calls from this no all day, from 2pm till 4.10pm. i just hope they got bored as i didn't answer!!!!
if they keep ringing then i've got a whistle ready to blow in their ears!!

i think we should all report this no to WATCH DOG on bbc1.

Calls most days for the last two weeks during the day, caller ID picks up the number, never any messages, once called in the evening, as others have said no reply but voices in the background, typical of calling loads of numbers and only speaking to the first ones to answer, which I believe is unlawful now. I'm also registered with the TPS which makes this seem a very shady operation who are not legit.

I recieved a call from this number this afternoon. Upon answering the caller did not reply. I could hear some background noise that suggested it was from a telephone centre or office. I googled this number and here I am.

From reading everyone elses comments I saw they are claiming to be from Halifax. I telephoned Halifax to remove myself from their marketing just incase these calls are to do with them.
I explained to the customer services guy what had happened and what I've read here. He said he'd heard of these type of calls. I gave him the number and he said that all the staff have recieved a memo on this matter a few days ago, albeit the number that they have is apparently one digit different. He said it is currently under investigation and told me not to provide the caller with any information.
This is a confirmed scam and has nothing to do with Halifax!

I dialled 1471 after returning home from work and was given this number.
As I was typing this number into google the phone rang again and a man asked to speak with my wife. I advised that she was unavailable and who was calling. He said that it was a courtesy call from Halifax. After I put the phone down I found the number on this website and read the comments that were made.
I rang Halifax who referred this number to their fraud unit. The fraud unit said that this was not a halifax number and suggested I contact the police.
The police have now taken full details and have referred this to their intelligence unit.

I've been getting calls from 02031035180 they calm to be from the Halifax this started last week, the phone now rings more than 4 times a day but they never leave a message on the answere machine. My concern is that the caller knows my name and always request personal information. I called Halifax today and they have given me a reference number and are lokking into it.

02031035180 Still is still calling. I have caller id and just ignore it. 15 mins before they called (just now), another strange number tried calling. It may have been 03176348133. I tried writing it down quickly before the answerphone kicked in so im not sure if that is the exact number. I dialled 1471 but it said the number was unavailable... a bit odd... I'm wondering if they are connected. My landline doesn't accept witheld calls so I don't normally recieve these type of calls.

I have had these jokers on every monday @ 6.00pm for the last 4 weeks.  My wife always took the call.  When I finally took one today, they asked for my DOB but when I queried what the call was in relation to they hung up... done the old 1471 and got the ID....  defo a scam methinks!

Has anyone who is getting these calls used money supermarket.com or anything else similar recently? I think I read another post where someone mentioned this.  I used it several days before these calls began.

I have been contacted by these people and unintentionally and foolishly gave away my DOB. I am glad I found this website.  Is there any official investigation concerning this matter??  It is ridiculous and unacceptable that these people think they can just mess around with us.  Will try and take this matter to Watchdog and see if anything can be done.  No, I havent been using moneysupermarket.com or anything related

This company called me over a month ago and asked for me by name I wasn't in so they said they would call back.Since then the phone has rang a few times and when I answer the line goes dead. I'm surprised no one is taking this seriously if it's a scam!

I had a call from them, having already missed their calls several times and googled it I figured what to expect. The person knew me ( I said I was his/my brother), and they asked to check the date of birth (I gave a false one, so they could update their records) the person wanted to continue with verifying the details and I made my excuses to leave which were ignored. I tried fishing for information about what they were selling etc and they said it was a matter of urgency i completed answering their verification questions.
I made some further excuses and then hung up. They call back about twice a day now instead of just the once.

Oh and if you call them back (putting 141 before the number) you get an automated message that says Halifax First Assist tried to call you.

This number is provide via 'OFCOM'. Everyone should phone them and log a complaint. Apparently if the silent calls they make are in excess of 3% they can be heavily fined. So everyone phone ofcom and let them know:

020 7981 3000

by the way, the 02031035180 won't be the actual number they are calling from. Their phone number will be routed to this number which shows up as their caller I.D. Ofcom say that your telephone provider can trace the real number if you push the issue, as it will cost your telephone provider money to do so. They would be forced to do so if the police are involved.

I contacted 'Watchdog' today to let them know about this.

Originally virgin (my telephone provider) said that they could not block this number from contacting me. However, after speeking to OFCOM, I called Virgin back, mentioning that OFCOM said they should be able to do this. Virgin said they couldn't do this, so I persisted saying Ofcom said they can even though it might not be a standard feature which they offer. I was given a nuisance calls number for Virgin: 0800 9533333 - which I called. I kept mentioning OFCOM and that they said they can block the number for me. The woman I was speeking to said they would block this number from calling me, which could take up to 72 hours to activate. She said she would also trace the provider of this number and take the issue up with them and also trace the real number that is making these calls (behind the 02031035180 number).

In my previous post I said OFCOM provides this number.
That is incorrect, OFCOM are independant regulators.

Anyhow, anyone with VIRGIN, you CAN BLOCK this number from calling you. Just call the 08009533333 number and persist. And it is free to do! Give OFCOM a call too. Stand and unite, we can take these punks down :)

Get fed up of being called by this number twice a night same time each night let the answer phone kick in and it shuts off but still annoying wish they would bog off will report it to telephone preference service
