I got called again by these people Monday night, this time a woman called Gemma called from Halifax to check a few things with me on my account , I went along with her ,she said she wanted to verify my date of birth, I told her if she was really calling from a bank that she could tell me as she would already have these details and I shouldn't be giving her my details over the telephone. I then told her I had contacted the police about this scam and hung up. I didn't get any calls last night!I'll also be calling ofcom and my telephone provider today!

This number has been calling my landline around 6 times a day for the past week. I answered the first time, heard lots of call-centre type noise then they hung up without speaking. I've been ignoring it since but very annoying.

Just had a calk asking me to confirm my date of birth > isa di if you were from my bank you would have this information on me. I said I wouldn't confirm and what do they want to whic she replied that she wanted to ell me about new products and services. I said I wasn't interested and she replied 'you don't even know what I'm going to say' in an angry tone. When is said her call was unsolicited she hung up.

i get calls from the number 02031035180 at least four times a day on a daily basis, both me and my partner have told them we are not interested and to stop calling. Like others have said there is a delay when you pick up the phone so now we just hang it up straight away, it is very annoying though as they phone at the most unconvenient times ie early morning or late evening.
Caller: Halifax?

Several calls from this number claiming to be from the Halifax. Sometimes no  one there. It's really annoying.

I actually work in a call centre for FirstAssist and every call centre in the UK for the Halifax actually shows up as the same number. I can safely say that the number is NOT a scam but I can totally understand why people would think it is. We are not allowed to leave answering machine messages. We are also suffering from God knows how many system issues we have been having with the system dialling people at random times and not calling at the times it is supposed to. Plus we have had lots of problems with the lines as we have taken on lots of new staff recently and the lines aren't able to deal with the amount of people.
I hope people will understand that we are genuinely working for the Halifax and our job is difficult enough without people badmouthing us when they are clearly uneducated in the way that call centres such as ours operate.
At the end of the day, we are doing our job and we do not dial the numbers ourselves. Ity is a system generated phone system which dials Halifax customers who have given us permission to call them.

These calls are coming from first assist on behalf of the halifax to let halifax customers know about a new service "Halifax Personal Accident Plan" This is a genuine product as i have checked this out with the halifax myself and they only call past or present halifax customers. It is not cold calling or hoax calling as it was you that gave them permission to call - whether it be indirect or not. And they ask you to confirm the year you were born as they can only sell the product to you so they have to confirm this. They already have your full DOB in front of them but do not have any bank account details.

Hope this helps....

Thank you Bob.
Good to see someone on our side with this.

Just out of interest as well, people who are just hanging up without us going through data protection will be getting calls back. The reasoning behind this is that as far as customer confidentiality is concerned, we are given permission by themselves to call them as they have not opted out when applying for their account/credit card/mortgage etc... The issue with us "calling back" is that without permission from the person we are calling (AFTER they have gone through data protection) they are put back into the dialling system. These are classed as calls from your bank which is why they don't show up on the TPS system or on ex-directory. YOU have given us permission to call you.

As for people apparantly asking the Halifax about us and being told that they "know nothing about it", the people in the local branches are not trained on the product. We are the people trained to deal with this specific product. I couldn't personally tell you anything about any other Halifax customer but that doesn't mean that the other products are scams either. Different members of the Halifax group are trained in different areas. It's as simple as that.

I am currently working for first assist on behalf of the halifax to inform customers about the new Halifax personal accident plan and sit in a call centre for 8hrs a day with alot of other people trying to do my job but afetr reading the statements posted by these obviously idiotic and supremely ignorant dullards i can understand why my job is becoming more and more difficult. With the threat of losing my job because of a lack of sales this close to christmas i felt i had to take action. Statements like "this is a confirmed scam" is unfounded and obviously not researched at all.  As for the Halifax worker who stated this is not a Halifax number clearly doesn't know much about the company he works for or possibly doesn't work for the Halifax at all.  I sincerely hope this subject does make it onto watchdog so all these ignorami can realise how wrong they are.  I also resent being called a twat by jtaw45.  So if you read this twat is spelt with an a not a 4.

Banks and similar financial organisations will ask for one piece of security info in order to identify yourself over the phone, this is the law, data protection laws states they cannot give out any of your information until they've done so - this is for your protection. If you're concerned ask them to confirm some information in return ie: postcode, they should be able to do so if they are legitimate. Repeated phone calls can be very annoying for obvious reasons and if you don't want to receive them then simply don't sign up for any marketing calls from any company. Ever. Read the small print and be careful what you tick, it really is that easy. If a company has your permission to contact you then it's not cold calling, it may be unsolicited but it's certainly not illegal. Using abusive or threatening language towards a person over the phone, however, is illegal so you may want to bear that in mind the next time you tell someone like 'William' or 'Adam' where to go.

I suspect most of these last comments, all made after each other are scam comments by the perpetrators as I do not bank with Halifax or have ever banked with Halifax but still get these calls continuously.

THE HALIFAX AND THE BANK OF SCHOTLAND ARE THE SAME COMPANY U MAY HAVE HAD INSURANCE OR A MORAGE OR ANY SERVICE FROM THE BANK WHICH ON THERE IS SMALL PRINT WHICH IS INFORMING YOU OF COMPANYS CONTACTING REGADING NEW SERVICES
Anon - 29 Nov 2007
Hardly a difficult conclusion to jump to seen as they've actually identified themselves as employees. I was under the impression that the purpose of this site was to identify the caller, surely employees of the company that are calling have the right to identify themselves and offer a bit advice or am I missing something here? and what exactly is a 'scam' comment???? if you don't have anything with the Halifax it may be that you have had dealings or applied for a product with one of their sister companys such as the Bank of Scotland. Halifax also supply financial products for companies like Sainsburys as well, either way if they have your details it's because you've given them over, possibly unwittingly.

The person I spoke to today said she worked for Halifax and the Royal Bank of Scotland - they are different companies. Even if it is legitimate there is no need to be rude. If you call someone and begin by saying 'what is your dat of birth' and when they ask why you refuse to answer them then of course the 'customer' is going to be annoyed. I look forward to contacting my bank and the FSA about this
debbie - 29 Nov 2007
me and my coliges have enterd this site to try and put peoples mind at rest and offer ways out for your selves it would also make are job a hel of a lot easy er if you listend to the advie i have given you. this is an advise sight thats what i am giveing you why contine to put people in to a panic and refuse to belive a genuine comment from a collige of first assist/ halifax
Lilly - 29 Nov 2007
well first of all your English standards leave quite a bit to be desired, that does not make you sound like you are genuine. 'Colleague' is the word you are searching for, 'people's (not peoples) minds', 'ways out', advice (not advise or advie), site (not 'sight', continue (not contine), etc, etc.

If this is genuine why aren't Halifax issuing some kind of consumer information through the appropriate means.
debbie - 29 Nov 2007
to anon all i can is apoligise 4 my colige did you get a name at all. we ask  for the customer to confirm the date of birth after we have explained where we are from and asked them how they are then we ask 4 confurmation of date of birth or post code. if you want to go down the lines of contacting your bank and the fsa thats entily your choice but all they will tell u is the same as i is to inform the bank you dont want any more calls and regester with the tps to stop other conmponys
