A man named Paul called saying he was from PPI Claimline advising my claim had been successful and £3000 could be on its way to me this afternoon.  They would require £750 Ukash vouchers as part of their 25% fee.  Having a claim in place and believing this to be genuine I brought the vouchers where specified.  When calling Paul back, I was required to speak to his manager, Frank who now required the voucher codes in order to set up the paperwork with the courier service who would be delivering my £3000.  I refused to give out the voucher codes and long conversations ensued with both Frank and Paul trying to insist that they and their company were genuine.  I was uneasy with these conversations and hung up.  I checked out the Ukash website and it appears that all that is required to cash these vouchers are the code number which were being asked for.  I subsequently phoned the PPI Claimline and they advised they knew of these people and were investigating the matter as we spoke.  They advised me to call the Police and Action Fraud.  I am very fortunate that I did not reveal the code numbers and indeed was able to claim back my cash for the Ukash vouchers.  Please all be aware of the fraudulent PPI claims people.

I have also had a call from this number from a woman calling herself Fiona, said I was entitled to £3200 which would be paid in cash via a courier and I would have to purchase the Ukash voucher for £550 and let her know when and then she would send the courier to me, I thought this was all a bit suspect and 'too good to be true' so I didn't purchase the voucher and checked out the phone number online which led me to this site. Beware of these people and if you think you have a genuine claim contact your bank/building society etc direct. If you do they can advise you the appropriate course of action.

I have just had a call from Sam (020 328 66141) who said I am entitled to £2500 cash back from PPI. He told me to buy £500 worth of UKash vouchers from a local shop and to ring him when I had made the purchase, He then went on to say he would send a courier round within 20 minutes to hand over £2500 cash - the more I thought about it the more un-easy I became about the whole thing so I checked out the number on line which led me to this web site - thought it was too good to be true.........................be aware, don't part with your cash if you think about it, why don't they use the money from the courier to purchase the vouchers. I will report this action to the police.

You need to report it to Action Fraud.  They can't use the money from the courier to purchase the vouchers because there is no courier.  The scam is to get you to purchase the voucher.  When they ring you back they will ask for the serial number to prove you have the voucher.  Once you give them that number they can cash the voucher and that is the last you will hear of them.  There is no cheque.  There is a warning on the voucher telling people not to give out the serial number over the 'phone and the people where you buy the voucher should reinforce the warning.  When you think about it, what normal business would ring you out of the blue and offer to bring you money by courier??

Thanks for that, I have rung 'SAM' back and challenged him on a few points which seem to have sent them into a spin. I said I would meet the courier, with the cash, at the shop to buy the vouchers, Sam said he was coming from the Royal Mail and wouldn't have time to wait! - must be busy people these Royal Mail couriers, delivering thousands of pounds around the country!!
    I will ring Action Fraud............

Glad to help. At least it's one lot of money they won't get. They may ring you again (they are persistent little sods) and it they do, ask them why there is warning on the vouchers about giving out the serial number.  I would love to know how they get round that one.  You could also tell them you didn't know Royal Mail operated in India!

Really can't wait for them to call back and I will indeed ask the question - I did check out the address they gave me which is 137 Finchley Road, London - this is a PPI claim line company who has a different telephone number and sound quite genuine - closed today though!............I'll let you know the answer to the question you pose.....although Sam has now gone on his break............ I wonder where to!

I too received a phone call from this telephone number and an Indian guy called "Steven Foster" told me I had a PPI claim due of £2000, but I had to buy £500 in UKASH vouchers and ring him back to confirm I had them , then a Royal Mail delivery man called "Andy Wilson" would come to my house and hand over the £2000.  As Royal Mail are not allowed to carry cash and once they had the reference numbers of the vouchers I would be £500 out of pocket so I rang the Action Fraud and gave them all the details I managed to take down during my call with "Steven Foster".  Action Fraud gave me a website www.tps.org.uk which is a free service you register with to stop marketing calls to your home number, should take around 28 days to come into effect.

Well done you.  The only problem with TPS is that it only stops UK marketing calls from reputable companies.  They "scrub" their lists before calling to exclude TPS registered numbers.  Rogue UK companies do not and should be reported to TPS via their website every time they call.  TPS does not stop overseas calls (like this one), nor does it stop Market Research calls.

Just had the very same conversation with "Steven Foster" word for word.
It’s a clever scam, once you give the UKASH voucher numbers to them over the phone, they will claim the money (untraced) and UKASH will not refund as it’s in there terms and conditions, about not giving third party’s the voucher numbers before receiving any goods or services.
His contact number is 02032866141 ext 1108

Steve Foster is indeed busy. I had the same call today. Same contact details as Paul above.  Reported it straight away to the company dealing with my PPI - without getting any UKash vouchers. Their view was a scam as my claim is in the early stages and the bank hasn't even yet responded to the claim that PPI was mis-sold. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

I was scammed on Saturday by these people i lost £100 i purchased a UKash voucher and it was cashed.. These people had me fooled even though i thought it was a scam i still did as i was told. I remember saying to him are you sure you are not a scammer because there is a lot of this going on. He had all my details so i thought he was genuine. I never thought i could fall for something like this how wrong was i. I have reported them to the Fraud line.
I was given the name Shane Watson on 02032866369 he said he was based in Finchley Road. On Monday morning he had the cheek to call back asking for another £100 saying he is not a scammer that i need to pay the other money to get my parcel of money from my PPI claim. I was entitled to £3,249. After telling him that my Ukash voucher had been cashed on Saturday and my parcel was not delivered, he said it's because i had to pay the remaining £100 before they can deliver.( Thats not what he told me on Saturday) He said they had not cashed the Ukash voucher i told him they had because i called Ukash who told me my voucher had been cashed on Saturday. He was still persistent saying if i do not want my PPI money they would give me back my £100 as if he would, i have not heard from them since.
BE WARNED DO NOT BE A VICTIM LIKE ME, I THOUGHT I WAS A SENSIBLE PERSON HOW GULLIBLE AND TRUSTING I AM...

Beware of Loan Scams replies to Liz
Action Fraud have the following advice on loan scam fees:

    1) www.actionfraud.police.uk/node/240

Loan scams happen when a victim is asked to pay an upfront fee for a loan.

A person will typically reply to an advert for a fast loan and will have their application approved regardless of their credit history. Before they receive the loan, they are told them must pay an upfront fee to cover insurance for the loan.

Once this fee is paid, the victim does not hear from the company again and the loan is never received.
Loan scams are a type of advance fee fraud.

Fraud has been committed when money has been lost.

If fraud has been committed, report it to Action Fraud.

People in debt conned out of cash in fake loan scam
National charity Citizens Advice is warning people to beware of companies offering fake loans for a fee. The companies often prey on people who are already in debt and desperate for a way out.
    Advice
Citizens Advice top tips on fake loans:
    • Never pay money up front
    • Never give out bank account details to cold callers
    • Be very wary of cold calls offering loans, and internet sites offering quick and easy credit
    • If it looks too good to be true it usually is
    • If you need credit, shop around, use a trusted source and always check the paperwork
    • If you’ve already paid money up front for a non-existent loan, inform Trading Standards (www.tradingstandards.gov.uk). The Consumer Credit Act says that all but £5 of any brokerage fees should be refunded if no loan is taken up within 6 months.
