I was called on 09/03/10 by www. nerdsupport.com who claimed that my internet provider had told them of errors on my computer. I asked lots of questions and accessed their website which stated they are Microsoft partners. Eventually I allowed them access to my computer and they took control of my mouse, and cleared over 100 errors. They said they couldn't clear all errors  unless I upgraded to Windows 7, which I could see would cost around $200. I refused and was given back control of my computer. I have since changed passwords and security access in case this is a potential scam to obtain personal details, or simply sell unwanted and costly software. I have also, as a precaution advised the police and various financial bank/societies.

My bro has had the same call and has paid a similar quantity of GBP.
They tell him that he now has Win 7 Ultimate & Office 2007 (flavour unknown).

They are currently struggling to retrieve his emails & get it working.
Also none of his screen shortcuts work?

    Is this good value???

These people called me today, and said that my computer had a virus, and that they were commissioned by my internet provider  -  "bt or talktalk or one of them" to sort it out. I refused to give any info and suggest that everyone does the same.

My Grandad also received a phone call from this company claiming that they were a company called 'f1comps' whom I believe is a certified Microsoft partner, which also is nerdsupport.com who they have also been claiming to be. I found this link on the 'f1comps' website which mentions this scam, http://www.f1comp.co.uk/about/NotUs.aspx

Like mentioned above they first rang up claiming that my Grandad's computer had 100's of virus's and they could clear them by taking control of his computer, of which he heard 'viruses' panicked and let them do so.  They then told him he they could offer him at a discounted price of 185GBP, for windows 7 and 'Mcafee' anti-virus software. Which he also accepted and provided them with his bank details, as far as i am aware they got him to download bit-torrent and from there download windows 7, which I am to believe this is an illegal way.

after checking the bank he has found the the robbing scaming b*****ds have taking a total of 295GBP

Be aware if these contact you!

Got the call from what sounded like an indian call centre - saying the same as everyone has been told - "we're a Microsoft authorised company....we can fix your computer, blah blah....." It's definitely a hoax/scam crock of sh*t, as they wanted me to click on a certain link on their website (which clearly would download a program that allows them remote access to your computer - DO NOT pay any attention to them...(or, if you're like me, keep them talking for ages, then quietly set the phone down next to a speaker playing audio clips of movie murder scenes).

I've just had a call and much the same as everyone else. Scare you by showing you all the 'warnings' and 'errors'. Then lead you along saying you'll have nothing to pay, but surprise surprise, they want you to fill in the fields with card number etc. from which 'they will take no payment'. Beware, no doubt this is a scam!

Just had this number call me saying the same thing. The man got really "stressy" when I said I couldnt follow his instructions as my laptop was in the other room, so he gave me his name and number and told me to call back. Out of curiosity I googled the number and saw this page. I have since called the police and definately wont be calling 'John Adams' (who was almost certainly Asian) back.

I have been called twice today by a woman (who sounded Italian) "calling about your computer on behalf of Microsoft". When pressed for a phone number she said 044 2033 188 706 which, after some obvious rearrangement, leads here.

Of course, our phone is listed on the completely useless database of the Telephone Preference Service - but that's a different scam.

    Hi all.

Just had the same indian call centre trying the scam.
First they asked if there was a computer in the house, when I told them yes, they then stated that it had lots of errors and they could fix them for me.
Yippee I thought someone else who knows about computers (I've been in IT for 35 years now).
The idiots then asked me to go and switch the computer on, so I asked which one as we have 2 computers, 2 laptops and a server running?
No answer to that, obviously not on the scam sheet they read from.
They then asked me to go to their site and download this program so they could test for errors, I responded by saying that as they had already stated there were errors theye didn't need me to go to their website as they could fix it automagically.
    Long silence from India.
Decided to end the call by informing them that I was an IT expert, had recorded the call and was currently talking to the police on a second phone line, for some reason they then hung up.

Avoid these scammers like the plague!

My mum got the same call and took down details for me to call back as luckily she knows very little about the computer.

I called back and gotan indian call centre - could tell it was a scam when he said... "I think its only fair that since you have my name, give me yours!", a couple more of my questions later and he hung up on me!

I'm reporting it to the police now.

I have just received a very long and persistant phone call from nerdsupport - the caller was quite rude when I questioned the reason for his call and insisted he wasn't trying to sell anything; however it transpired that he was and when I refused he became even more abusive and eventually hung up

This number rang me today.  They asked for me by name.  Said Microsoft had told them I had viruses etc.  I said I would ring back and he gave me the name of Shane Clark.
Would Microsoft divulge my name to a third party?
