Got a call from this number, showed up now number, not even "private number" just call, didnt answer, they left a voicemail message claiming to be from google internet search engine and left me this number to call back on.

another scam company claiming to be google.. amazing i put my number online and the next day these guys call. P.S Try to sell rankings

They have left an aswerphone message claiming to be from google, dont know why they have rung me, the odd thing is this web site is the only reference to it even when you google the number.

Scam claiming to be from google, trying to sell advertising space, be careful they are very convincing

Yeah they foned me and the number didn't even come up as a call - just went straight to my voicemail..

But thanks to this webpage - my suspicions have been confirmed..

Claiming to offer me refunds for loans that have payment protection. Challenged ignorant man and he got aggressive. SCAMMERS!!

I wish i checked the number here before i called them back!! Ican confirm what other people said...

They claim to be able to move you to the top of the google ratings (which hits on your website does naturally) Convinced my wife by getting her to put lancashire aftr our type of business.
she was horrified to see that we only came tenth on the first page. we are a relatively new local business that comes near top of google if you put local towns in. We will naturally move to te top over time (In Lancashire)
When I mentioned the TPS (telephone preference service) , he got shirty saying- `your in the yellow pages my friend`. Not for selling stuff to us, we arn`t.
I was polite but firm. He was the one who put the phone down on me.
Un-ethical-do anything for a buck lyers.

same nimber called selling listings on google as ive had several calls already would not entertain the caller who then became slightly aggresive....it was a laugh..

Just got a call. They didn't even listen to half of my "out of office" message before hanging up. No attempt to leave a message at all!

Implied they were from Google, trying to sell me a guaranteed front page ranking. It was pretty obvious from their sales pitch that they were chancers.

Got a call from Courtney claiming to be from google.
When challenged says that she was phoning about google.

Just had a call claiming that they could move my Promotional company 'promofobs.co.uk' to the first page of google, I have spent years looking into and studying Search Engine Optimisation, and all I can say is that if it was as easy as paying a company £129 per month, I think every one would be doing it. The chap I spoke to, J. Cole, was very Pleasent and convincing, a little pushy but then he is a salesman, I had no reason to disbelieve him, only my past experience of SEO and hopw difficult it is to get to the first page of google, so I can't comment on it being a scam but reading through this thread I would waver on the side of caution.
He did mention the company name but I missed it, however he did say that they were the same company that ran or owned a matchmaker site.

The guy who called said he was Jonathan and clearly said he was calling from Google.com, the search engine. As I was also busy on another call, I asked his number which he gave. I expect him to call back as salesmen do. I usually agree that I will pay double if they can succeed in what they claim to do which would be after me seeing the result. I even offer to sign a contract to that effect. They never agree because they know they can never deliver.

They called and asked to speak to the person in charge of marketing saying they were from Google but when I said he wasn't available they told me they were calling from a company called Lavora and it was regarding google marketing and gave me a number to call back on. When I googled "Lavora marketing" it came up with their website which in the small print says "We are not employed, endorsed, or agents of Google. 'Google' and ‘Google Adwords’ is a trademark of Google, Inc." so how they can call and claim to be from google I don't know!!!

Thanks everyone for all these comments, I nearly fell for it, I have a translation company and was offered 1st page sponsored link for £129.00 on Google, told the guy to ring me in an hour  as I needed to speak to my accountant, instead I did some research and found you guys, can't wait until he rings back....

Very annoying pushy bloke. Couldn't for the life of him understand why I wouldn't want to give him my card details for such a special offer of £99 (usually £149) to list my business on first page of Google. Especially as he only had the one slot left for my area and was just about to leave work for the day! Wonder how successful they ever are now that so many people are wise to such scams?!

Had a call from this number this morning - bloke on the end of the phone started telling me that he needed the details of the company director - i told him that i could not give that info out and that all Sales and Marketing calls go to (unbelievably) the Sales and Marketing Manager (me)!! He got really aggressive and then simply hung up - i phoned the number back and spoke with someone who told me they would get their Sales Manager to call me - i don't know why as i think the chances of my buying from them are nil!! Oh well - it will be a good excuse to have an arguement to liven up my Friday morning!!

I received a voicemail message from James at this number.  He claimed I could get more clients for my home based business.  I'm glad I didn't call him back.  I check this site for every business related phonecall I get now.

I got a call today not from this actual number but still from a guy claiming to be from google and trying to sell me a high ranking at £99 a month, usuallu £149, as mentioned before they tell you theres only one position left and you're guaranteed much more business, I phoned google and they confirmed it was nothing to do with them and never to give any information (especially card details) to these people if they call. Nobody can garantee you a front page google listing and google DOES NOT accept payment for a better ranking, this is clearly a scam, the best thing to do if they call is hang up and block the number
