Please beware and do not give any information to them or do any of the tasks they ask you to do on the computer.

i dont use microsoft that was the first instance i knew something was wrong, but it was also the persistance in his voice and his reluctance to give me a number.

- Dave replies to Luton Trading Standardsjust had a call from this number asian man said there was things wrong with my computer. he said he worked for microsoft and i had reported a fault and it could be fixed over the phone
- LouiseSomeone called Sonny Spencer (Asian man) keeps calling from this company (PC Masters Online), his number is the same code but ends 7409. As with one of the previous contributors he claims to work for Microsoft and that error messages keep being reported from my husband's computer. Today he told me that my husband gave him permission, last evening, to get me to allow him into his computer remotely - we were out yesterday evening! His insistance and obvious irritation that we are not complying is becoming unnerving.

- EmmaThese guys just managed to persuade my mum-in-law to download software onto her PC - I rang up just as it was running and basically said to yank the modem cable out. Going to head up there on Sunday and sort out the mess. Again, claims that Microsoft called them and told them she had problems on her PC. I hope someone shuts them down soon.

I had a call from these guys on Thursday evening they were quite convincing that they were from microsoft & that they had error messages from my computer. I dod let them remotely control my computer to run a scan. I do not think they put anything on my PC but I am not certain. I think they were just after my card details that I refused to give them.
Please advise if you think I should do anything else.
Regards
Mark ?Fogwill - JohnI get a call from these people every couple of days with them trying to get my personal details. It is always from someone with a strong indian accent who says their name is 'derek', 'john' etc. This is just one of their scams, others are 'we are calling you from barclays', 'you have won a holiday', etc....
- Dawn GJust had this call me, I don't answer any numbers unless I've googled them first. Caller hung up when the answer phone kicked in.
- bishbashashWhat a nightmare, Asian sounding lady from "Microsoft" wanted to download some software onto my PC and show me all the "bad things" on there. I argued my computer was running fine, but she was really demanding that I followed her instructions. I told her several times I was not prepared to continue the call, but even when I hung up, she called back, again and again. She said I was wasting her time, which I thought was incredibly rude, as it was her phoning me in the first place. I demanded a phone number, and she directed me to a website after much hesitation. PC Masters online, came up.
Didn'T like anything of this call, fortunately I am fully "scam aware", but I feel for anyone that believes this is a genuine call from Microsoft, and follows the instructions. Having had time to Google this subject I realise it's all a scam to get money out of you, for unnecessary services on your PC.
Please don't be fooled!!- Caller: "Claims Microsoft" but it's NOT!
- leeds familytwice we have had call from this indian sounding man saying that he was from microsoft and that microsoft had given them our telephone number as we had reported a fault on our computer. the funny thing is our computer is fine and we have never had a problem with it. after stating that we also had insurance and software cover he still demanded that we follow his instructions and go through our computer..... on the second call we just decided to let him talk and say we was doing the tasks he asked but we realy was not doing them. can be fun for you if he keeps ringing lol. and for all you out there reading this it is 100% a scam never ever give your details out to anyone who calls you over the phone.

- george, londonStrange that these people claim to be in Luton but have a London (well, Essex) telephone number.
Companies House records indicate a "legit" company of that name registered Aug 2009 at that address, but has yet to submit accounts.
I've no idea whether they provide a genuine service but I seriosly doubt it given that they use gutter marketing techniques, including lies (about being notified by my ISP), scares (about my computer being infected), asking for non-confidential info (which they should have had if they were genuine but didn't because they had obviously just plucked my phone number from the phone book), asking for confidential information, asking for credit card details.
I often string out conversations to see what new underhand tricks are being employed. I can see how people are being duped.
The simple rule is NEVER buy anything from someone who cold-calls you. Nor for that matter do anything told by him (or her, ladies are not to be trusted either), or give out ANY information.- Caller: OnlinePCmasters

- SusanI have been telephoned tonight by this number claiming to be PC Online who were asking me how I was finding PC Online and to remind me that I had 3 months left on my contract. I said I wasn't aware I had it, can't remember taking it out and can't remember using it. He said I had taken it out on 16th December 2009. I asked to just cancel it. I was then transferred to a David Morgan who said he couldn't cancel it until I paid more money. He became quite cheeky and I put the phone down. He then phoned back immediately and threatened nme with the Debt Collection department. At no time could he offer any concrete evidence that I had taken this contract out and finally told me to take it up with Oftel. He gave his name as David Morgan and the telephone number telephone number 2081445602. Iasked which country that was as it had come up as an international call, he said it was London so I assume a 0 is required first. When I asked for Ofcom's contact details he remained unhelpful and said I'd have to Google it, (which I have done!) He told me I would have to "walk up to the office" as there was no telephone.

- pwat replies to Luton Trading StandardsCaller with heavy “Indian” accent, at times un-intelligible, said he was receiving error reports from my computer.
Claimed to be from PC Masters, Luton.
Knew my partner’s surname and address (my surname is different but he referred to me as Mr xxx)
Kept saying “Look – We know you have a problem with your computer…..”
Said something about virus infection and online banking. (Easy to see where this would lead!)
He said he was authorised by Microsoft.
He said I was using the original version of my (unspecified) software.
He asked me to turn my computer on and he would help me. I had not admitted to having one, albeit I do, and it was already on.
I apologised that I was having trouble understanding him.
I asked him send me the details in writing. This agitated him.
His constant insistence and irritation make it clear he is bogus.
I ended the call.
His phone number was withheld (ie not on 1471) - Marches BorderMy elderly Mother was cold called by this number yesterday. Similar story, a man with a foreign accent (possibly Indian or similar) called Adam claiming that she had problems with her laptop that only he could fix as he was calling from and authorised by Microsoft. My Mum is not easily convinced and has been on many computer courses where she has been informed about the vulnerability of scams. However, he certainly had her convinced and the frightening thing is that he did take control of her settings remotely, he knew she was online, he knew she was a senior citizen (infact, he said it was because she was a vulnerable older person that Microsoft were calling to "protect" her from potential harm). Goodness knows what he has done to her settings let alone her confidence. One thing for sure is that this company is going to get reported to the relevant authorities. He also became quite insistant that she gave her debit card details for fees of £84.95 - thank goodness she had the sense not to do this.

- RogerYesterday evening I received a call from an Asian man purporting to be from PC Masters Luton. He told me that my computer was infected by a Chinese virus, in fact he said that there was more than 20 viruses on my machine. These he said were not treatable by any known anti virus kit. He wanted me to go in to Google. However co-incidentally at this time I was having some minor problems with my computer and I could not in fact operate any programmes. I became suspicious and asked him the address and telephone number of this organisation. He said that I had already been given this information. This was of course totally untrue. He said his "supervisor" would ring me back in 20 minutes. Accordingly 30 minutes later another guy rang and my wife answered, I asked her to ask him the same questions at which point he became extremely abusive and used some appallingly offensive language to my wife. The conversation was immediately terminated.

- Judith replies to Luton Trading Standards| 1 replyJust had a phone call from Indian sounding male who insisted that many error messages have been logged relating to my computer - when I asked how he knew this he said that PC Masters were monitoring my pc - I asked him how I could be sure he wasn't a bogus caller and he laughed and reassured me that many people ask this - gave me the company name and address as PC Masters, 6 Leagrave Road Luton and a number (not phone no tho) 06996061 . He said I had probably noticed that my computer was running slow and didn't believe me when I said it was fine.
He asked me to switch computer on so that the problem could be 'sorted' and go to Start - I have a macbook and I said I didn't know where Start button was - asked me if there was icon at bottom with 4 flags - presume he meant the Microsoft logo and when I said no he rang off! Obviously not familiar with Macs so cleared off to find some easier targets! I had no intention of doing as he asked anyway, I'm far too suspicious!
Was rather disconcerted that he knew my name address and phone number but then he would only need to look in phone book.
Did 1471 when he'd rung off and he was calling from 09141401414 - probably an untraceable throw away pay as you go phone.
