No message left, but I suspect it will be one of many many more to come until I answer it!  Have had them before on another number too.

I answered a call from this number - they said they were doing customer service with regard to my recent upgrade. I let them say their bit - it seemed more like marketing to get you to add/change things to the contract you just accepted and are probably quite happy with. I just said "no" to everything they offered and they went away.

Just spoken to Carphone Customer Services - via the number on their website. I asked them to confirm if BPS are calling on behalf of CPW or just masquerading as CPW.

These guys ARE genuine, they're calling certain customers who upgraded recenty or upgraded through certain channels (e.g. loyalty) or those who've recently had a new contract.

Apparently it's just a courtesy call to check all is OK and if they can offer any help or additional services with your account (i.e. O2 treats)

The good thing is that they have to use DPA to verify who you are, unlike the cowboy companies who simply ask when you were last upgraded and even what network your on!!

CPW Cust Serv said these guys shouldn't ask for your account PIN, just first line of address, name, postcode etc. This is all that's needed for their DPA and it's the same sorts of questions CPW customer services ask (they asked me for name, first line of address, postcode and who I bank with).

Incidently the recorded message from Carphone does say that they are changing things from October, and that all customers will be required to give the account PIN when changing anything on their account. The campaign from BPS would suggest that they are simply ensuring customers are aware of this change, and that they are aware of their PIN for their mobile account.

Re-assuring but they are a little annoying, and DEFINITELY persistent!

yeah, I got the same call several times. Finally I picked up just now, and it seems they are just asking about whether I'm happy with the CPW service. Not sure whether I'll be tricked/charged extra, we'll see.

I really don't like this kind of cold call!

I was dubious about this number. I've had about 3 or 4 calls from it which I never answered as I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognise or one's that aren't on my phonebook. I suppose I should answer it if they ring again.

Not sure maybe coincidence but some tried to access my accounts after receiving call from this number.  The first they tried to do is obtain my current address details.  Someone tried to access my account using old address details that very night.  Do not answer this call.  Definatley do not give ANY details.

    Genuine?! Hell no!

I have been issued a mobile phone by the company I work for. Last week, the company did an all-round upgrade of employees' mobile phones from Carphone Warehouse.

Since then, I have received a few calls from these people. I answered it the other day and what followed was either a fun-fun-fun riddle, a scam, or just a prime example of automated stupidity. I was told that it is "not a sales call". They asked for the company accountant by name - company phone contracts are all in her name.

Long story cut short, I do not have access to the PIN - only our company accountant does.
I explained that if they need to speak to her about the contracts then I could give them her direct office number. I explained that even with the PIN, talking to me about accounts is like asking the guy that mops the floor what the company's projected sales turnover is for the next tax year. They replied saying they cannot dial out from a call centre to speak to the accountant. I work remotely so I am not even in the same city as the company management, which removes the option of passing the phone over to her.

The accountant followed up on this with Carphone Warehouse. They stated that THIS IS A MARKETING SCAM. They added that anything from Carphone Warehouse about our contracts is sent IN WRITING to our company accountant. I was told to ignore the call centre's or ask them to stop calling.

Let me just repeat what Carphone Warehouse said about calls from this number:
    ===>  THIS IS A MARKETING SCAM  <===

I just received another call from the same number today. In fact, it was the same 'call centre advisor' or whatever generic title they assign to Phone Jockeys these days. Has anybody else got the cute-sounding Aussie girl? Unfortunately, in reality, call centre girls are usually much more pleasing to the ear than the eye.

I immeadiately explained that Carphone Warehouse told me that calls from this number are not genuine. After a few seconds of her babbling, I simply repeated "I know that you do not represent the Carphone Warehouse."

"oh, um... well... hmm," replied the lightning-fast telephone conversation operational administrator.
"Well, if that's your response then I'm sure you don't represent them. Thanks for your time," I said politely.

The three seconds of incessant babbling that erupted from the earpice as I searched for the 'End Call' button was more invigorating than a cold Amazon waterfall shower followed by half a packet of super-strength freshmints.

Next time they call, just let them know what genuine Carphone Warehouse think of them: Not much at all.

They called me, I answered. They asked me if I want unlimited texts for £7.99 a month, but the guy in the shop already did that when I upgraded. They knew my PIN number. I confirmed my address. Am a bit worried so may change my PIN number as soon as.

Direct Marketing Mobile Retention – Welcome and Development Calls

We now hire one outbound agency who carry out ‘Welcome and Development calls’ on behalf of the Mobile Retention Direct Marketing team – they are called BPS. We send our customer data to BPS every Monday and those customers are called throughout the course of the month. BPS agents will advise customers that it is a Customer Care call on behalf of Carphone Warehouse, to make sure that they are getting the most out of their phone.

    Who are BPS?
    •    BPS are an agency that carry out calling (both inbound and outbound) on behalf of a number of clients     throughout CPW
    •    BPS are used by R&D and Telecomms (TalkTalk)
    •    For Mobile Retention, BPS only carry out outbound calls
    •    If a customer is called by BPS, their telephone number will display as 02082961473
    •    If a customer receives a missed call from this number, they are able to call back, and will receive a recorded message that says:

“Hi, you were called today by BPS Contact Centre on behalf of the Carphone Warehouse. We are sorry to have missed you, there is nothing to worry about and we will endeavor to call you back later. Goodbye.”

    •    BPS will try to contact customers that they are not able to speak to more than once. In this case, a customer may receive more than one missed call from the telephone number above. The BPS calling times on this campaign are:

    •
    Monday    11:00 - 20:00
    Tuesday – Thursday    10:30 – 20:00
    Friday    10:00 – 19:00
    Saturday    10:00 – 17:00

Do BPS ask customers for their PIN?
Currently, BPS do not ask customers to confirm their PIN. However they will advise customers:
    •    How their PIN is made up
    •    What their PIN can be used for
    •    That the customer can share their PIN with a 3rd party
    •    That it can be changed to something more memorable

Customers need to confirm full DPA in order for agents to proceed with the call. They will not be asked to complete PIN DPA. They used to be asked to complete PIN DPA, however, this was changed in March 2008.

What is the content of the call?
This varies depending on whether the call is targeting an upgrade or existing customer. However, overall the purpose of the calls are to welcome the customer back or thank the customer for being with CPW and talk through 5 different value added services:
    •    Voicemail
    •    Bolt Ons
    •    Picture Messaging
    •    International Traveller Service/Discount Country/Spanish Bolt On
    •    Online Billing
    •    Chargeable bundles
    •    O2 Treats
    •    Making the customer aware they will receive a call from us near to the time they are due for an upgrade

    Who gets the calls?
Upgrade: Customers who have upgraded their O2 or Sainsburys contract 2-7 days ago
Existing: Customers who have been with O2 or Sainsburys for 6 months
The O2 data includes customers who have purchased from E2Save or One Stop Phone Shop as well as CPW channels.

    How many customers are called?
    •    The amount of data sent varies by week, but currently on average around 12,000 records are sent in total weekly.
    •    Out of all the data sent BPS manages to speak to 60% of customers.

How do the services get added?
BPS has access to Hades and are able to add Bolt-Ons and International Services.

They use mycarphonewarehouse.com to register customers for online billing.

If there are any problems with adding a service on Hades, BPS send the accounts to the processing team in Portugal who will make the relevant actions.

    Just taken a call from this number. It was just some numpty from CPW trying to get me to make some changes to my accounts;

"Hi, I'm calling on behalf of CPW. Can you please confirm the first line of your address and postcode".

He then gave me a passcode and tried to upgrade my texts package, upgrade me to international roaming, told me that I can send picture messages and asked me if I had any overseas F+F.

I told him no to all and he went away.

Thanks. It's good to know that it's CPW.

I had a recent "upgrade" and and am praying to God almighty that they will let me have my PAC code so I can close this chapter and walk away.

Mis-sild product when took out phone conract with them (they said it concluded something when it didn't, even though it WAS on O2, had I gone to them directly) - mis-sold AGAIN over the "upgrade" of my contract.

Worse case senario I have to get a new phone number all over again.

I used to work on this campaine for bps in wimbledon it is not a scam I admit it is a customer care call with small sales which are only offer when custome exeeds there alowence. They will ask for first line of address and post code or the pin but only if your a 3rd party person. If you go ahead with the call you will only be on the phone for no more than 2-3 mins my advice ITS SAFE I USED TO WORK THERE
