I was called after placing my car on 'car buyers guide' Irish website. Apparently they had people beating down their door to buy my car, (funny how none of them have so much as tapped at mine) and he couldnt believe I would sell it at such a low price. After deftly answering various questions that I had about how a British company operates finance in the Republic of Ireland, and why exactly the company is called EasySellUk instead of EasyBuyUk if their primary service is people needing finance to purchase cars, he then gave me a real hard sell and tried to get me to part with the bones of 200euro as a gesture that I was genuine. I was tempted but smelled, if not a rat then a fairly sinister mouse, and told him to ring back the following day. He rang an hour or two ago and told me I was shooting myself in the foot etc. Well after reading these entries I can certainly live without the foot! Dodgy dodgy dodgy deals. Stay away!

i had my car listed on cbg.ie and was given a really hard sell, so much so that i parted with my money! They guaranteed a sale in 28 days or my money back! My car was listed for 28 days - not one call. I've been trying to get my money - they now state that it was not guaranteed 'money back'. I was even told that i needed to make sure that the car was clean and ready to sell as they had buyers ready and looking for my type of car. I also queried how they could sell my car on a UK website - they reckon that 80% of the sales come from Ireland. Totally taken for a ride and really hacked off as they got away with it! Beware of James Young and George Taylor.

I received several calls from Chris Burton who first rung me on saturday 8th November about seeing my car for sale on Gum Tree.  he stated that he had several buyers waiting to buy a car similar specification to mine.  After a lengthy spiel, he then said his service would cost £129.99 to ensure that the car I was selling was genuine.  I informed him that I could prove that the car was mine without parting with my hard earned cash for a service that I hadnt requested! I politely said I wasnt interested.  Next day he rang again, inviting me to look at the easyselluk.co.uk website, he even provided a credit licence reference number which he claimed would prove the legitimacy of the company and the fact that it is a credit company that makes their commission from the finance they arrange on cars not from the seller.  I was still doubtful very much so.  He said he would ring back after I had chance to look at the website, he rang back but I informed him that I hadnt had chance to look at the website that day.  He is in the process of ringing me back when I stumbled on other people's concerns posted on Google - you have all confirmed my doubts about this scam.  When Chris Burton finally gets through to me, as Im sure he will, his ears will be burning by the time I have finished with him.  He will be working from mylifeisnot worth living.co.uk!

I advertised my car on www.cbg.ie and within 24 hours was contacted by a James Young of EasysellUK. I was told by James that by advertising my car on EasysellUK that I would be guaranteed a sale and if it didn’t sell in 28 days then I’d get my money back. James told me that there were pre-qualified people in my area who had been passed for credit and ready to purchase cars like mine.

I explained to James that I was based in the Republic of Ireland and that I couldn’t understand how a UK based website could sell my car when there was more established sites in Ireland such as Carzone, Autotrader and CBG. I was informed that EasysellUK was very successful for sales in Ireland and that had noting to loose. I said I’d think about it.

James called me again told me that there were people interested in my car and were we going to do business. As I wanted to sell the car quickly I agreed to advertise the car at the cost of £129.99, once again I was told that if the car didn’t sell in 28 days then I’d get my money back and was also asked if the car was clean and ready for inspection as I would expect a number of enquiries about the car.

Two weeks went by and not one call, I called to speak to James Young, but was told that I couldn’t speak to him as he was in sales; I then spoke to a lady in the admin department who told me that usually it took around 28 days before
enquiries came through. 28 days passed and not one enquiry on my car, it was then that I called again and spoke to George Taylor. I ran through the series of events and told him that I was told that if the car wasn’t sold then I’d get my money back. His comment was that this was not true and that James would not guarantee a sale or the money back. As I explained to George Taylor, why would I spend £129.99 on a UK site if I had nothing to loose! I've had a response back from them - some poxy free accommodation vouchers. I've since contacted the web links on their homepage - M&S, Hertz, Zurich etc and flagged up the scam to them as i guess they won't want to be associated with them. I'll get them back so how!!!!

I just got a call from this number and since I got a call from a company offering to sell it for me yesterday and since I am in Northern Ireland, I got a little suspicious. I pretended to be the sister of the girl selling the car and asked the guy on the other end of the phone if he wanted to buy it. He said yes but I thought I would look up this number just in case - and I'm glad I did!! The guy on the phone was very aggressive sounding and I'm annoyed that I'm getting these calls. What happened to the good old days of genuine callers??

I had a call form a guy just today. He used the number you mentioned. He asked me several questions about my cay and was "seriously surprised" my price was so low.The cheapest megane he could find in the area-he said.He asked why it was so cheap,so I explained that I studied local newspapers, irish websites and asked the local dealer. But he had"good news"-he would pay me 200euro more. When I asked why he would give me more money than I wanted, he kindly explained that the more expensive the car the more money his company earns on the transaction(does that mean they want to sell people dear cars?).And because they organise finances for buyers people want to buy with them.He asked if the car could be viewed the same evening(kind of time pressure?).After all that he requested the registration fee of 169 euro before anything could be done. But I was "guaranteed"to get high price (he told me the exact amount)>The only thing I had to do was register(=pay). What guarantee did I have from him, any document- I asked. He laughed and said- "madame, our company is in the market for so many years...blablabla".So no real guarantee. He wanted money to be payed by credit card or debit card(not laser thouh).I didn't have it, so he offered me doing it by 3g(I don't know how that works).I asked how I could register-website maybe?"I will ring you back. How much time do you need?Half an hour?(time pressure again?)"I asked for one hour and a half.Thank good was enough time for me to decide it was a scam and thanks for tis website as well,so I am sure now I did the best thing. The website didn't really look to great. He gave me all the details:company address, his name, company reg.no(but was no way for me to verify it in such a short time anyway)easy sell uk-renault department(my car is renault), middleton rd,woodgreen,N228NE and introduced himself as James Young. He sounded british. He called me again about 5 times, but I didn't answer. Thanks lads!

Just got a call from James Young from Easysell UK at lunchtime. I registered my car on CBG this week. Gave me the same spiel as some of you have described, guaranteed sale price, why was it so low etc. He claimed he could have people calling around this evening! He gave me all company info, VAT number etc. I (maybe stupidly) gave him my name and address, but then he got to the bit about £129.99 and he looked for my credit card details. I told him i don't give out my details over the phone, i would research his company and call him back. He claimed he didn't want to be waiting around on my call, and so i told him to call me back at 3.30. In between i've managed to find this website, so thanks everyone for yout comments. I had a fair idea it was scam, now it seems my suspicions were right.
Why wasn't the number he called from the number he gave me, and why couldn't i call him back?
Why would a UK company be looking for cars in Ireland, especially given the exchange rate at the moment?
I'll give him a piece of my mind when / if he calls back.

Easy sell may be genuine but i doubt he is. After all, all the info he gave me, he could have got from the web.

The other strange thing is that right after he called, i received another call from a private number. I didn't hear the first few seconds properly(which I think may have mentioned my car) but then an automated voice read my home address (to which the car is registered) back to me and asked me to press * twice to confirm something. I hung up. Its not the address i gave over the phone, where i live now and where the car is, but he may have got it from the Reg No. which is on the picture on my ad on the CBG website. I may be overly suspicious but it happened seconds after the other call. I can't make head nor tail of it! Has this happened to anyone else.

James Young - Just called! Used CBG.ie and he said everything mentioned above.
Very insistent on getting the Credit card details.
Told him I'd ring back tomorrow! LUCKY!
Prob not a SCAM as such but deffo not as rosy as they make it!
I was told money back deposit but the mails above show otherwise.

I'll tell him he can sell it if he likes but I am not registering!
He can verify the car and my reputation with a local Ford garage if he likes!
Get a garage dealership to view it!

    Cautious thankfully!!
Had a missed call this morning having put an add on cbg.ie yesterday.  Don't know why but I googled the number and came across this site.  Anyway decided to ring the number just to see what they would say and when I rang I couldn't make out what the guy said when he answered the phone as he spoke very fast.  I said I had a missed call and he asked if I was selling a car or caravan.  I said you tell me, you rang me.  He asked me three times whether it was a car or caravan I was selling but I played dumb and said each time but you rang me.  He then got very aggressive and said I was wasting his time that if I didn't want to sell my car I could continue making these silly phone calls and they had plenty of other genuine sellers who they could sell cars for as they had interested parties with cash who were looking for my type of car but I was now losing out!

I just stumbled across this before I answered the call and told him I wasn't interested. He assumed the sale was sorted and asked me for my details again. His name was Andy Grey and was extremely persistent. So glad I Googled the number! Thanks

HE TOLD ME THAT TO INTRODUCE ME TO THESE BUYERS I HAD TO PAY A FEE OF £129.99 AND IF THE CAR DIDNT SELL I WOULD GET MY MONEY BACK! GUESS WHAT, NO BUYERS AND NO MONEY BACK. THIS IS A CON. I'VE REPORTED THEM TO TRADING STANDARDS AND I HAVE CONTACTED MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY AND WATCHDOG
