I received a call this evening from an African (by accent) man, saying that he was calling from ATO Canberra. According to his statement, I am one of the lucky owner for a Government grant of $7000.I had been told that the government selected the people based on the  good credit ranking and paying the tax properly over last several years. It's a confidential grant program from the government and that's why it didn't publish into the news earlier. I also been given a reference number and contact number (02 6100 4079) to call, talk with the senior officials and claim the money.

I received the call from the same number and they told me that I got a 7000 dollar grant. They askem that they will deposit this amount if pay 250 doller to unicef. I asked them where are they calling from. They said ATO Canberra, I asked the employee number and they cancelled the phone straight away.

Same thing happened to me on the 24/09/2011! Was told I had a 7000 dollar grant from the ATO

LoooL.. I received a call from some one saying that I am a lucky person and have won 7000 dollar on 26- 9-2011. He is from Asian backgrounds (china, Philippines, Thailand or Indonesia) I knew that from his accent. Her asked me to call the number 0261004079 saying that it is Australian Taxation Office. I am really worried about my details 'cause they know even my address.
Should we call ATO and tell them what happened to take an action??

I received the call from ATO Canverra (Calvin, ID: SD86000456)from same number and he told me that I got a 7000 dollar grant. He asked that they will deposit this amount if I pay 250 doller to unicef.  He said that this money will be  given from the government fund, tax free and told me that they are calling from ATO Canberra. He gave me this number (0731026092) to make enquaries regarding the account deposit. Please make the investigation to this number and do the necessary action.

I got a call fifteen minutes before and repeating the same stuff as other mentioned. Relevant authority has to investigate and  suitable action has to be taken. There would be people who  might have got cheated or lost their money. I am sure they are getting the names from yelow pages or from sources where they can get little bit or more information about " Criminal records" or calling randomly.  I just put that number on google and see that many people received similar calls before me.

i got a phone call aswell just then excactly the same as you all described telling me to ring 02 61004079. But i didnt ring them

My father got one of these calls today with a bloke saying his name was Oliver and that tax had money to give away. Of course this particular scammer wasn't bright enough to realise that it is a public holiday today in Canberra so of course ATO is closed.

i got a phone call aswell just then excactly the same as you all described telling me to ring 02 61004079. Does anyone know anymore about it? i am worrying about this, how they know everything about us like our address and phone number etc..........should do something about this

Heh, this just happened to me. Got given the number 0261004079 and told to call "today only" to claim my $7000. I knew I shouldn't have listened for so long! I just went on the Australian Taxation Office website and that's not even their number, so definately a scam I'd say!

Hey, I jus received the same call from this number... they initially sound ok... but I was wondering why only asian voices,,,something fishy... they say they r from ato n dont even have our names rt.... asked me to send $250 to unicef... i give them a receipt no... then they give me a pin which I shld take to my bank n they will hadover the check...I went on asking them questions to see if hang up getting irritated.... they insist i have to do it today...
loosers.... I guess this happens only if youir number is public in yellow pages

I believe... they are sending this to someone named Ashish Kaushik (india, delhi)( poor child )
