- SB| 1 replyI just got a call from a guy saying his name was Peter Jackson (the most anglo-saxon name for an obviously Indian national!), from PC Users, and that my computer has a virus. I didn't believe him. He said my computer had sent my personal information to their computer (WHAT??!!)...
Does anyone know what the scam is?- Caller: PC Users
- khiladi replies to SBits nothing but scams to get your details. they either want you to sign up for something where u make advance payment and then they fail to respond after that. they are getting very brazzen these days. why blame the indian telemarketers??? has anyone actually been there to see who has been training them?? well i have and unfortunately its the aussie companies trying to save a buck at the cost of causing grief to us. the govt should first ban all outsourcing and fine these large companies...
- Colin Benett| 1 replyI had received a call about the same and I had checked the genuinity of the company too- had quite a few problems with my computer which the guy fixed up for me. They had mentioned it clearly that they are not Microsoft and have no connections with that organization. Had spoken to a guy having a slight Asian accent and he had me connected with someone called Austin Wells. They provided some softwares to me and gave me this number along with 1 more number- had contacted them on this number to re-check every information and found it appropriate and even checked their ABN number.
I am thankful to these guys that my system is running must faster than before. - Carl replies to Colin BenettNo one called "Colin Bennett", would make the errors in english grammar made in the earlier comment. Clearly a scam.
Out of interest, and boredom, I followed the instructions of my helpful computer technician - whose name was "Ricky Martin" - until he asked for permission to connect to my computer... - James| 1 replyThese guys just called me as well he claimed that his name was austin wells and tried getting me to go onto some logmein site and gave me a pw to log in. he asked me for my full name, email and age. told him i was under 18 and he sayed he could no further continue? thats as far as it went. am i in truoble?
- JR replies to JamesI am from Sydney Aus, this same scam is running here too, and i'm ashamed to say I fell for it!
All the details are the same....they are Asian/Indian sounding, but with Anglo Saxon names;
They say my computer has viruses and has set off alarm bells at their "Windows help Desk".
They wanted to dial into my computer via logmein123
Stupidly, I followed theire instructions, and even let them download some anti-virus software.
I then followed the prompts to a creditcard gateway page and signed up for long term service.
this was on 30 June 2011. I have to say, there are 2 different antivirus and malware scans that run on a daily basis now on my computer, but they never seem to come up with any alarms or threats.
And, 2 days ago, the same guy called me (he uses the name MARK ROBERTS) and he asked me how my computer had been running, then went on to tell me that the credit card gateway company called PRISH PTY .COM had closed without forwarding on my payment to FULL PC SUPPORT.!!!!!
NOW I KNOW IT"S A SCAM, and I am very ashamed and worried that they will be able to access my computer again, and even use my CC details again.
I will take my computer to a validated microsoft tech and have them totally go over my pc, and i will even go to the bank and ask to change my credit card number.
