This is a SCAM from Indian accented callers who claim to be working for Microsoft & will try to sell you an extended windows warranty for up to $299USD.They will guide you into Windows Event Viewer and will try to convince you that your PC is about to suffer serious failure if ignored.They then offer to help you remotely & will try to get you to allow them remote access to your PC by typing www.logmein123.com into your RUN bar (on the START menu)& entering the PIN they give you.If you give them payment they will download a (freely available) program to your PC which will clean it of unnecessary files & thus appear to the average user as helpful to the running of your machine.

A polite Indian woman just called me to say my windows was at risk. She wanted me to put eventvwr into my run computer and upload something. Who is this person and why did she say she is from WINDOWSl

I too had a call from a polte woman with Indian accent saying my windows was at risk ,very believable story. Lucky for me i dont have a credit card or i would have been caught in this scam, be careful because it is a scam and these people need to be stopped . I was lucky i was having trouble with my pc at the time and they tried to sell me security. they are good at what they do. stop them.

Just got call from here, tried to scam my husband, when he said he needed to speak to his wife (me as it's my pc) the indian man 'max' said 'but Mr. your the man you should make these decisions!! He then phoned back and I answered the phone when I said I have been having IE /Windows 7 problems but I've resolved it myself using the MO website he said it was a mandatory upgrade and that we had to pay them!! I said I wanted proof in writing of details where they are, details etc etc, he said he wasn't asking for any of my personal details and that we must pay them for upgrade and asking me if I have children and if I was married! I promtly told him this has nothing to do with my computer programs and asked to speak to his supervisor. The phone cut out and they called back a third time!!! This time it was a man with a very fake american accent-needless to say I gave it to them!!! BEWARE THIS IS A SCAM

These scamers rang my 80 year old mother  yesterday and have conned her into forking over $423.58 for a "lifetime" dedicated security support. She has always believed herself to be computer savey, and at 10pm last night was feeling every bit of her age- We have now shut down her internet access and bank accounts until we can sort it out- I will be making enquiries to find out how you can stop these b....s. They are malicious con artisits , and I dont even know how they got her number to ring her.
Said they were from the Computer Technology Dept of Windows and that the reason her computer was runnign slowly was that the windows licence was expiring and that it would shut down, but that they could stop this happening . She feels a fool, but said that they were so convincing and seemed so genuine. I asked why she hadnt said she needed to chek with a family member first , and she again said they seemed so genuine she didnt want to bother us at work.

Same Max as I got last night when I started to check into what had happened to my mother during the day. Lots of noise in the background like an overseas call centre- took for attempt to even be able to work out what they were saying

I was completely conned yesterday by 'Michael Lee' who said he was a Microsoft Technician whose office was on Chifley Park Road in Central Sydney.  I had never heard of it, but then again I am from WA.  I had just finished dealing with Optus Faults so when 'Rose' (with an Indian accent) said she believed I was having computer problems I immediately thought she was from Optus.  She put me onto Michael who said his software technicians would clean/speed up my computer and of course, he gave me this phone number.  He got $US99 plus all my financial details.  Between his calls I was getting calls from a woman calling herself 'Cathy' also wanting to speed up my computer and clean it up.  Her offer included sending me a CD and quarterly check-ups by a technician at about double 'Michael's' price.  She was insisting I call my Bank and stop the payment to Michael.  She even had the hide to ring back today and offer to get my money back to me so I could accept her offer!!  Anyway, too late to stop the payment to 'Silicone Solutions' (as he called his company) but at least I have learned to hang up as soon as I hear an Indian accent!!

My wife was called today by a man with an Indian accent with this story about how he was from Microsoft and that they noticed that our pc was running slow. at this point my wife, who is skeptical at best of any telemarketers, asked him to explain how he got our no, at which point he became agitated and started to become a little aggressive and repeating that he was a Microsoft technician. My wife managed to get his ph no of of him and said her husband would call them back. I came home and called the no and after a no of rings of the 02 8003 5397, I got through to 'Agit' who after a series of questions confessed he was from PC Consulting. Given that was not Microsoft I just hung up figuring it was not legit. Thanks for all these posts, helped confirm a suspicion.

I wish to report I had a call from a woman with Indian accent saying my windows was at risk ,they had received reports from my computer that in was infected. She said she worked for PC Expert which is technically integrated to work with microsoft windows and they had been given my number by Microsoft. Sounded suspicious so I asked her for her company's website but she couldn't give it to me. She said their number ws 02 800 35 397 and she was from Brooklyn. It would cost me $110 or $205 for 1 or 2 years to protect my computer. Sounded dodgy, after she couldn't give me her website and my numerous questions, she said I did not seem comfortable so said I should talk to a local PC technician. I think this is a scam that relates to the notice Microsoft released on 26 August 2010.

Just had a call just as you said, Indian caller, I got to the part where he started to ask me put an entry into run new tasks, started to enter the entries he said but decided to check them out, he said his website was consult pc experts, then I saw your warning, he is going o call me back so I know what I will say and the second word will be off!  thanks for the warning

Yep, a very unsophisticated scam - microsoft would never ring thir customers:-)

Exactly the MO Nathan described except his name was Sebastion. The womans name was Debbie and both with Indian Accents. Told them nick off whatthey described was total crap.

Consult PC Experts called me telling me that they had information from Microsoft that the error messages sent to them indicate that I have several computer viruses.  The caller had an Indian
accent although he claimed to be calling from New York.  I could hear the sounds of many other
callers (call center) in the background.  It took a little doing to get him to admit that he did not
work for Microsoft. Even though he was able to tell me my computer was infected he could not
tell me my operating system.  I checked the website for this company, my phone carrier looked
it up but could not find who was carrier for that New York number.  I reported the call to my local
Attorney General's Fraud Investigation office.

We too have just had a call from "The Consult PC Experts", tried to have me believe that we had a serious infection on our computer and he was calling from Microsoft ...... I find it very unlikely that Microsoft would do such a thing. When I challenged him and asked how he got my number he wouldn't give me a direct answer, when I asked if I could call him back he refused. He was certainly persistant, eneded up putting the phone down.

"If you let them into your computer they could have done anything, literally, anything.  They could have planted viruses, or a keylogger that's stealing your passwords, or have downloaded any information from your computer they wanted.  You need to contact your local law enforcement department, probably should change all passwords that might have been stored on your computer, and back up essential documents and wipe your computer so you can reinstall clean.

Call Type=DANGEROUS this is bad news

These people phoned my house today with some sort of vague enquiry in relation to a flaw with my Microsoft Windows to my wife. It was from an overseas caller, according to calle ID. My wife requested a callback number and they provided me with 02 80035397.

It was obviously suss, and when I phoned them back and tested even the most basic justifications for their call, such as why Microsoft would not contact me themselves and opt to go through a third party, the fellow on the phone sort of lost his nerve and terminated the call.

I suspect they would need some sort of financial reward for some invisible service.

Scam fail.

I can't remember what the company was he gave, but it was a short Indian sounding name.

You fail at both the written english word and doing a half competent scam.

For the record, we don't even run on windows, so why are you calling me about a problem with my windows. I've forwarded your details and CLI details to my Local Police E Crime division. Maybe you can justify to them what you are calling all of us for.

I just received a call from the lovely 'Samantha Wilson' from PC consultants telling me my mum had an infection on her computer. She had her name, address and phone number so I questioned how she had all these details, apparently Microsoft had provided them.

i was very sceptical as I know Microsoft would never call their customers.

This is an absolute scam (as I can see people have also realised from all the posts above). I asked for a contact number so my mum could call her back. The number rang out and was left with an answering machine.
