Claims to be from the ministry of finance, bank reclaim dept. They inform that you  have been overcharged 1000s of dollars by the bank and if you simply go into a post office a deposit $290 to their account they will free up the money for you. His name was Shaun Michaels with an id no:811 and the address given was 375 elizabeth st Sydney. He was then told politely to [***] off.

YEs i also recived this anonmous call and spoke with a lady name Angel Smith who advised me that i have got $3114.00 and they were calling from Australian Council and said that all i have to do is go to the post office fill out some forms and take my ID with me and pay $281.00 for the admin fee than the money will be refunded back in to my acocunt.....i just wantt to know if this is a Scam becuase if there is money there for me i want to knw how to claim it...

they also advised that there address was 4777 locked bag, Strawberry hills, NSW 2012 and there phone numbers were 0280056593 and 0280915007 than a guy name marcus came on the phone and said that they are a real company and i advised that this is [***] and advised them to not call this number again but they insited that there is money there and they want to put that money inmy acocunt today

YEs i also recived this anonymous call and spoke with a lady name Angel Smith who advised me that i have got $3114.00 owing to me from overpaid bank fees, cheque fees etc (I don't own and have never owned a cheque book) When I inquired as to how they got this information they informed me that they got it from my bank.  They could not tell me which bank I banked with.  All very suspicious!  
They said they were calling from Australian Council Reclaims Experts and said that all i have to do is go to the post office fill out some forms and take my ID with me and pay $281.00 for the admin fee than the money will be refunded back in to my acocunt.....i just wantt to know if this is a Scam and who to contact in regards to this information.

claiming they are from "Bank Reclaims Experts" or "Australia Council" - they are from neither of these places.

I got a call today from a lady giving me a melbourne number to call back...saying she was from the Australian Bank councils for reclaim. Apparently I have $3k+ to be claimed back but I have to go to the post office and get a money transfer form to give them $50 before they can get my verifications thru and my money to me. I wasn't convinced....is there someone out there who can tell us if this thing is really true? Can we claim any overcharges by bank?

John Darby called from Australian Council of Banking reclaims and offered me to go to the post office and collect my $3000.. he knew my home address. quality of call wasn't very good,like those oversease calls ithwith a bit of a delay & some sort of an asian accent

i just got a call from Indian person claiming she was from the australian council re-claim dept.  She said i had $3160.00 in bank charges owing to me.  All i had to do was to pay via western union $180.00 which was refundable to get my $3160.00.  She wanted to know hwo far the post office was and when exactly i would be going.  She got quite short with me when I got suspcious and started asking questions about how they got my information / address / phone number etc.  Sounds very dodgy.

They  advised that there address was 4777 locked bag, Strawberry hills, NSW 2012 too . and there  name was Rose . They claimed thay are a real company and was advised that the banking financial institution owed us $6100 She said we had to pay them $250 into their account for admin. fees. What a load of CROCK . Why are they still operating in this manner ???????????????????????????????????

I had a phone call from a John Darby, he gave me his phone number as being 0261003698, he told me he was from the council of banking reclaims, and that i had $4511 owing to me in bank charges from the last ten years, he told me to collect a yellow and a green western union forms, he then said to come back home, ring him up, he would tell me how to fill it in, then i would go back to the post office and pay $383, then my money would be given to me then and there, plus the $383! I rang the bank, they said it was a scam, because if i had any money owing to me, they would have notified me! I also rang a government department,( as he claimed it was a government department he was working for) they said they didn't have such a department, and gave me a number to ring to report it, that number is 1300795995.
I just hope that no one gets caught by this scam!

Yes I also got a phone call just 30 minutes ago (Tuesday 31 Aug 10.25 am) John Darby was his name, but his return call number is 0872001167 claiming he was from Australian Council of Bank Recliams indicating I had $7531.00  REIMBURSEMENT FOR  OVERPAID BANK FEES. I ASKED HIM HOW HE GOT MY DETAILS,he said, he worked for the Australian Gov. His supervisor could tell him 'which banks these fees were being paid back from. Same as above about goining to post office, deposite $450:00 in
Western Union, and I would get this and the $7531 back. within 10 minutes of depositing the money????????????
Challenged him again about validity of this money he siad ring this number back and it will be verified.????
Will ring back -- to check what happens next, but have not gone to post office.
I will be reporting this number and name to consumer affairs.

Donot hold your breath about it being stopped though.

I asked again for name, but she refused and said I do not want my name to be used. She then hung up.

Definitely a SCAM.   DO NOT BELIEVE THEM WHEN THEY CALL PLEASE!

Yep, same thing.  "John Darby" (who seemed to be having difficulty pronouncing his name) just rang from the supposed Australian Council of Bank Reclaims.  Told me I had $6114 owing to me for overcharged bank fees (!!!), and if I just go down to the Post Office tomorrow and fill out a Western Union Transfer Form for $367 in registration fees, ring him on 0872001167, and I would instantly get $6418 right then and there.  I googled the ACBR and it came up SCAM, and their "website" www.australiacouncil.com.au did not load.

Does anyone know what government department I can ring to report this scam?  I have been directed to a page for email scams, but not phone scams, and I would prefer to talk to someone in person.  Thanks.

Just 5 mins ago,  a lady Rose called from reclaim department of Ministry of Finance, said the bank owed me $4114, that the banks over charge me for last few years. then give reference number, and a number 0872001167 to call her senior manager to get the money. Asks to go to the Post Office and fill up the forms.  How shall we report this?

My husband received several calls from Australian Council of Bank Reclaims.  My husband has been told that we have $4,793.00 owing to us from bank fees.  Was told to go to Post office and get a Western Union Transfer form and pay $479 in fees.  To claim money from the transfer we would need identification to get it.  I was told not to mention anything to the people in post office when I got the form.  The people who called were Nicole Rich and Tony Parker.  Was advised that we would receive a phone call from a financial advisor in the next few days.  I guess Tony Parker is the financial adviser.  Also gave us a file no and not to let anyone know this information.  Hope this helps someone so that they do not get scammed.

They call me and explaine same story, while I call back and ask who are they and why running these scammers net work, the lady replied, If you are not interested forget it.
My question is why our law and administration not taking against these people ?

I recieved a call from a a Oscar Cartwright 0861050506 from the australia council union at 372 Elizabeth st surry hills nsw telephone number 08saying the ATO owed me $8334 from back taxes. He then said I had to go to post office fill in forms and transfer $239 fees through Western Union to a Brijesh Giri in India to recieve the money and then a further $800 considered the GST. This is a SCAM.......I hope this helps the next unexpected victim.
