I received a call from a Jessica Smith who claims to be from the Government Reclaim Department, she informs me they have a cheque value of $5000.00 waiting for me due to my bank overcharging fees. I was to phone 02 800 75535 and quote a number which was given to me in order activate my claim. The cheque was to be sent within 24-48 hours after I phone. She asked for my DOB and which bank I was with. Who is this person and is there such a department?

same here told me im getting $5248 when i rang the number they ask me for 239.00 she ask for for dob and what bank i bank with this is a scam and i have repoted it to the police

My wife received a call today from this mob asking exactly the same questions, even down to the $5000.00 refund. I tried to call them back but they are blocking my calls. I just wish I knew where these maggots are operating from and I would do my best to have them shut down. I too called the police to report their actions.

Indian woman with poor verbal skills rang to say she was from ATO, re money taken from bank accounts. in interest illegally and now being paid back.  gave reference number of GR501 and said to ring the 02 number immediately to verify.  money available was $5700 round figure.  when you answer another Indian woman answers saying something about ATO and bank interest. very hard to understand

I got the same call today, someone name Frank, when I confronted him he got all aggressive. But just to find out what this all about, I played along and then he gave me a reference number AR886. When I called the 0280075535, this lady picked up the phone and said Federal govt. is returning the GST and the service tax I have paid coz I have been overcharged. When I asked a couple of curly ones, she hung up.

Same call for refund of overcharges of GST etc. ref number given and asked to call 02 number. I asked a few questions back, they had my name wrong. Scam!!!! Reported to police..

They did this with me and I realized it was a spam from the first second but I wanted to pretend I am very friendly and nice so I kept saying "yes, great, good"    waiting for the guy to ask me the most important question which is "What is you DOB". but he didn't ask me coz he was talking and talking and talking and the more he talks the more I am nice and friendly. But guess what? at the end he asked this question which I was waiting for "What is you DOB" and you know what I did? simply I hanged up and that what I want everybody to do.

Same story - Indian male with barely adequate linguistic skills on internet line, working for a Government department.  $5234 owing to me due to overcharging by my bank, he didn't know which bank?  Obvious scam. Said to call his supervisor Catherine Douglas on 0280075535 to confirm

Same here I had the same message tonight until they told me to go to post office and pay $199.00 before they would send me the cheque.

Same as above...said they were from the debt recovery and I was owed 5,248.00...knew it would be a scam....i'm never that lucky...

My parents just got the same call! But they were trying to get info about me!
Luckily my parents could see it was a scam.

Be warned people! Tell your friends and family incase someone accidentally passes your info to them.

They left a the call back number 02 8007 5535 with reference GR501.

Got same message, was dubious all the time the girl ( foreign accent of course) was talking.
Asked her to repeat a few times, could tell she was getting impatient.  She asked DOB & name of Bank, gave me telephone 0280075535 & ref. MK214  finally found this website & not surprised to see this as a scam.  Will be telling all my friends to BEWARE.   The amt of my cheque was to be $5,000  hahahahaha!!

Exact same thing happened and when we called up they kept hanging up on me.

Same thing here, went through the whole process just out of pure curiosity, didnt give them any details even though the guys was insistent about my DOB I still refused, he gave me the number of his so called "manager" who after giving me a big spiel finally told me i had to pay lawyers fees to release the money, as soon as I said i wouldnt be paying any money i was hung up on.

My wife is now deliberately calling them back every couple of minutes to hassle the woman and tie up their phone line! haha

Gt the call as mentioned above... for $5248.00. Asked my name n date of birth for verification also what bank I use. I gave them all dodgy information, wrong date of birth, wrong bank,wrong name... he said he was verifying my info n came back saying yes thats correct. Thy will have fun trying to scam an account that doesnt exist held by a person that doesnt exist. At the end of the call I told him  it was a new scam he said it wasnt but hung up as soon as i  said bs.

Just got a call that the government owed me $5248 and I had to call this number about them sending me a cheque. I had to quote Number RFO87 to phone number. 0280075535 and contact person. Cathryn please beware I have reported it to the ACC and ASIC

Like all the others I too had the same  -  aren't we all aware of these scams by now?
