    Got a call on 15/12/10
Yes, they say they are fundraising for a Police Citizen's Youth Club. I'm in QLD and 02 is NSW.
The guy sounded authentic with a speil but I'm on the 'Do Not Call' Register and this could still be a scammer.
I thought it best not to give this cold-caller/stranger my name, address and credit card details! Just too risky nowadays.
If you ring back the number that called you (02-8088-4052) you could just be saying hello to a scammer.
If you want to donate money or enter their raffle then ring a registered number out of the phone book.
Even if 02-8088-4052 really was a legit telemarketing company selling raffle tickets for the PCYC, they may take 50% of the takings as marketing fees.

The PCYC website outlines all about the raffle. The 02 area code does ring alarm bells but it would appear to be legit but annoying.

Hi, I just had a call from this number. He said he was from PCYC, and that the Rockhampton branch was under water, and would I like to contribute, and something about a raffle.

Like I'm giving anything out to a tele-marketer. I rang PCYC in Rocky, and spoke to a lady. She said that it's legit, but hell, I'm donating to Theodore and surrounds near where I live.

Plus it didn't seem right, them ringing straight after the Rocky flood. It smacks of opportunism!

This is PCYC. As this is a charity organisation, it is exempt from the Do Not Call register. The Do Not Call register does not apply to charities.

I've had yet another call from this number... ...with no one at the other end.
If it is a registered Non-profit Organization, they are certainly doing themselves no favours.

I received a call from this number today at 1.30pm and also last night at 8.45pm.
Of course as soon as I answer they hang up. Next time I will have an airhorn ready and give them bleeding eardrums. A vigilante approach might work better than the Do No Call register

It's a fundraiser for PCYC, but the caller I got was very rude when I said no.  He said it was to raise money to keep kids off the streets and off drugs.  When I said no, he said "so don't you care about kids on drugs"?  I'm fuming over this.

This number has been trying to get hold of me for a few weeks now - haven't been home to answer it and see which charity it is though.  Doubt I'm going to know that I know for certain its a call centre, because I've frankly had a gut full of every charity in existence calling me monthly to buy raffle tickets.  I even had a woman acting on behalf of the Sporting Wheelies admit that they'd been sold my number by a marketing company!

This number is used by charities & related and is a pain. Typically their computer calls your mobile phone and immediately hangs up. You ring back to answer a "missed call" and get charged a dollar for your trouble and get a recorded message asking you to donate to the charity. Charities rent it by the day, so on any given day it will be a different charity.
The charities are exploiting a loophole in the law: anyone else you can have put on the "do not call" register, but charities are exempt from this and so can pester you on this number with impunity.
    What can you do?
    1. Contact your local MP asking for the law to be changed to include charities on the "do not call" register on the grounds that they are exploiting this loophole.
    2. Email the charity concerned (be it Red Cross, whoever) and tell them that, as they are using this marketing method which is annoying, you will no longer donate to them.
Until enough fuss is caused, this marketing loophole will just expand.

    EX Insight CFS Worker
I was previously employed by the highly immoral Insight CFS. Basically what the company is doing is cold calling elderly senile Australians and intimating/pressuring them to purchase raffle tickets via credit or debt card for a charity such as the PCYC or RSPCA etc, which cost $1000.00 dollars or less. I am embarrassed to admit that I once worked for Insight CFS, and I feel so dirty. Hangup, if Insight CFS call you.
