Amy from Channel Nine here. There has been a phone scam linking back to this number. Are you located in Australia?
Cheers,

I run my own in-home computer/internet assistance business in Sydney and I have had two elderly people been fooled by this plan and have duped into paying $400 for an 81yr old gent, and $240 for an elderly lady. Both are from people that have their names somehow, and then say they have a virus on their computer and they will help remove it.
Happy to provide you with more info if you like. iaskmark@gmail.com
Cheers
--Mark - ErinOh thank goodness for google, I just got a call from a guy claiming to be from Windows help desk informing me that there was a problem with my computer. Im not the smartest person when it comes to computers and my young son had been on our pc the night before downloading stuff and changing all my settings,so it was quite a possibility like he claimed that we had an issue with ours. He was telling me to open things and type in stuff (yes thanks Jim it was malware he was asking me to type into my computer) it all sounded a bit suss, even to a dummy like me so I asked for him to prove who he was he passed me on to his suppervisor (or so he claimed). When the suppervisor came on the phone I questioned her and she gave me the 02 809 15001 number to ring. All I can say is Im so thankful for google and all the people that have cared enough to post comments so people like me can check things out easily and safely and not get sucked into scams. Cheers Ez

- AAOn 31/7/10 I received a telephone call from a purported Windows service provider who spoke with an Indian accent who told me my system was just about to crash. He demonstrated the problems on my computer by getting me to type in "prefetch", "malware" and "eventvwr" in the "Run" command. It showed numerous problems. He referred me to their Web page ("Windowssupportonline") and gave me his number (0280915001) to satisfy me he was genuine. I stupidly bought a 6 month subscription for $50 paying through "Payalert". He commenced to correct errors on my computer from his site with a chat line being open while he was doing it.
After 1/2 hour I got a call from another person ("Sean Johnson") who sounded very much like the first person, also told me he was from a Windows service provider and my computer was about to crash. I told him it was already being repaired from someone from his company. He told me that they were not the same. He directed me to his company's webpage "helpdesk386", said I was being scammed by the other person, told me to google the other persons telephone no. and see the comments, shut down the computer, cancel the $50 payment ASAP. I did that. It was too late to stop payment. I cancelled the credit card.
I called him back (0291916514, 018000148779). He offered to check my computer remotely to see if it had not been corrupted. He did that and through a program identified thousands of errors that he could clean up. He asked if he could do it remotely. I agreed. A chat line was open when he was doing it. After a couple of hours I had to leave. It was in the middle of him loading some software. He deleted the software and we arranged for him to contact me a couple of days later to finish. He asked for payment by entry into one of his business plans - cheapest $129 for 12 months where they would check and speed up the computer monthly (see their web page) . I told him I could not pay him by credit card as I cancelled the card but could pay him through EFT. He said that he could only take payment through credit card or Paypal. I said I would arrange payment through Paypal when he rang me.
Meanwhile I asked him to email me with his details and that of his business. I have heard nothing from him. - George Anderson| 2 repliesi dont agree with u Mr AA.

- lynette| 2 repliesI was called by John Williams from the company windowssupportonline tonight. He said they were located in Chatswood NSW. I rang the number he gave me 0280915001 to check and was answered by a person answering to that company name who passed me on to John Williams. After checking on my computer files which he said were dangerous and had been bothering them at the Chatswood centre, as they had received so many alerts from my computer, especially those with red markings, he told me that he would fix my computer free. After I went to the website as directed www.windowssupportonline.com I was told to log in. When I said I had no six digit number he became very excited, saying over and over that he could not believe I had not been given a six digit number when I bought the computer. I would have to pay $A50 for a new number, which he would generate. This would in addition give me service for my computer for ever. Every six months one of their representatives would call me and reboot my computer, making it run faster. I purchased the number, using a credit card on line and was passed on to a technician chat area. The technician took control of my computer and left a message telling me not to touch the mouse. The work he noted would take 30 to 40 minutes. After around seven minutes I noticed that his operation had ceased and tried to ring the telephone number I had been given as above 0280915001. There was no one answering the line. I tried ringing the numbers listed on their web site, but no one answered the telephone, although it was advertised as a 24 hour seven day service. I tried to enter my six digit code in the log in area and it was rejected, first as having expired and later as not existing.
I phoned my credit card company and was advised to have my credit card stopped and to do a complete virus scan of my computer.- Caller: windowsservicecentre
- Lynette replies to amy bulmer| 1 replyI am located in Australia and my story is detailed below. I think these people are quite dangerous as they seem to be well set up with a number of people working for them. As I have now realized, I was shown files on my computer that were not dangerous, and due to my ignorance and being told my computer was about to crash, I believed them and unwisely parted with my computer security and credit card details. They were very persuasive and took a lot of time over extracting what they got.
I had a representative call on me from Telstra the night before and wondered if that was how they got my details. - Ann and Jane Taylor (1793–1824)Similar story as Erin.. but their number is 0280113929 .. got a supervisor on the phone .. her name.. 'Twinkle' ... how unbelievable !! .. lol

- KerriCOMPUTER SCAM DO NOT FOLLOW HIS INSTRUCTIONS, i have received several call to the work phone and a work mate has received one to her home. This is a scam to get credit card details DO NOT SPEAK TO HIM
- LeonHi
The phone number you receive the call from may not be significant as the calls may be made by hacking voip systems. What I mean is, yes you can tell them, but do not think that the owner of the phone number can trace the person who actually made the call.
This hacking of VOIP has flared up in the last few weeks, all the VOIP providers should enhance security.- Caller: Microsoft service centre
