Got one today also, they've called me a few times, probably someone tryng to sell something

I picked up and there was no one on the other line, just all silent. Won't be picking up ever again when this number pops up.

I received a call just then from this number but as soon as I said "hello" they hung up.

Got calls from this number at the start of the year now they have started again.

"It's Avon Insurance.  I get cold called about once every 6 months.  They represent bigger companies who are trying to sell you insurance.  In my case it is always income protection insurance from Commonwealth Bank.  I tell them no every time but they just don't give up.  They will be following up an offer you would have received in the mail.

What a great website setup - thanks heaps Dan - I received something from Commonwealth last week in regards to income protection insurance so this makes complete sense.

Actually Michelle that information about the do not call register is not 100% accuarte.

There is an exemption where some public interest organisations such as charities can still call you as well as any businesses you have an existing relationship with such as the bank.

The below is from the do not call website's FAQ:

2. Will registering my number stop all telemarketing calls and marketing faxes?
No, registration won't stop all calls and faxes. Some public interest organisations (e.g. charities, political parties and educational institutions) can still call numbers listed on the register. This ensures these organisations can continue to provide valuable services to the community.

If you have an existing relationship with a business, it can still contact you, but you can advise them you do not wish to receive telemarketing calls or marketing faxes from them in the future.

Got another call from 0280944242 today. I decided not to speak this time and see if they would say anything, but nope after a few seconds of silence... they hung up. I don't understand why these people call so often but decide not to talk. They must enjoy wasting their company's phone bills.

I got calls from this number yesterday and chose not to answer because i was unaware of the number. i also recieved income protection info in the mail today so im glad i didnt answer. i hate banks trying to sell you things.thanks for the help everyone

OK great thanks for that Moe - good to know for future reference but a shame it wont stop this number from calling me every day!!

If you call 1300 305 515 and tell them your number they will stop calling. You will also have to call your bank and tell them your number is private and they cannot give it out for marketing purposes.

They are a company called AEGON Direct Marketing who call on behalf of Cominsure they are very helpful listen to them
