Keep getting a call from this number (02) 87193572 I answer the phone, then all goes dead. What sort of scam is this?

Magazine subscriptions - 4wd action in Australia etc

Have had several calls that go dead from this number lately. Getting annoying.

I have had four calls in six days and each time I answer it goes dead.   I am over it

keep getting this number calling on my mobile and goes dead when I answer it - I called the number & is a telemarketing number!!

They called me 3 times today while I was at work, and every other day god knows how many times, hang up when I answer. Wish they would stop. :S

I've been getting this number too - same as all above. Line goes dead. Lately, I've just been ignoring them, but like "Getting Peeved" in an earlier message, I thought I'd call back this time to tell them to stop calling me!!! But a recorded message goes on to say "We'd just like to let you know about a new product...blah, blah, blah" I hung up quickly!

Don't call this number back as I think the scam is that we get the call, no one is there, and so we ring them to find out what the were calling about - I bet you that we get charged the earth for calling back!!!! SCAM! I was hoping to get onto a real person to get them to take my number off their list, but it's just recorded.

Now to try to figure out how to stop the calls.

After getting several calls from this number (02 8719 3572) when I wasn't at home, I phoned the number to discover it was the "Express Media Group" which handles magazine subscriptions. I asked how they got my number and found it was due to a magazine subscription someone had gifted to me.  I told them I didn't want any more calls. The person I spoke to was very polite, looked up my details which I confirmed, and  advised I would be removed from their call list. It's probably worth a call to have your name removed.

Edited to add: I tried this number again as "sickathis" said they'd spoken to someone to remove their number. However, after listening to the message  - which is for a "Promotion that is available for TODAY ONLY...." (so why call me EVERY day if promo only for ONE day???) the lady says to wait to speak to someone but no one ever came on the phone to speak to me. I was going to ask if this call was costing me money and how much?!! I waited for a bit, but thinking the call may be costing ME money, I hung up.

I reported this to ScamWatch (Government website) as whatever the reason, it's not right to trick people into returning a missed call which may then cost them money or persuade them to purchase a subscription of something they didn't want.

It is definately Express Media Group (I have a magazine subscription with them). I decided to try the Toll Free number and yes, the 0287193572 number comes from them. You need to call (free call) 1800 801 647 - wait to speak to an opperator - and ask to be removed. The 0287193572 number is programmed to dial in a loop from their marketing department. You WILL be charged if you call back the 02 number!!! I complained and asked to speak to someone other than the lady who answered my call to tell them it's not right to trick people into calling back.I left a complaint with them, but who knows if anything will stop? I feel duped, tricked and it's sneaky of them to deliberately call with no one at the other end only to have us call them back and be CHARGED for it! My name is off the list now. If you want to stop the calls I'd give them a call too (but just not to the 02 number!!)

Oh really. Damn it I just called the (02) number. How much does it charge you?  A stupid amount? Or just normal STD charges?

I keep getting calls from 0287193572 without anyone being on the line. I was overseas and also received these. I am advised that it is 4WD Australia Magazine.

I just rang them on there 1800 number and very easy just ask to be taken off there phone list.

I've just started getting a lot of missed calls from this number as well. After looking it up and finding this page, I suspect it's because I subscribed to an art magazine (Australian Fine Art and Decorative Painting) about a month ago that is based in NSW. Thanks for the solution, "Stop Calling Me", I will call the toll-free number and tell them to take my number off the list. When I sent in my subscription form I ticked "Do not contact me with marketing info" or whatever the equivalent was, so I am annoyed they are ignoring it. I have also found the Do Not Call register is next to useless; we are registered and I have kept it updated (as it expires every few years) yet we are still bombarded by telemarketing and charity calls.

I am sick to death of these calls, I am going to block this number
