After a lot of office noise caller came on and claimed to be the commonwealth bank and asked for my wife - this was a call to my personal mobile so it is questionable if it is commonwealth as they would have the correct contact number.

I was getting a call from this number every Friday for the last 3 weeks. I'd call back and sure enough, it'd say as others have said 'Welcome to the Commonwealth Bank', then go to music forever, and no one would answer.

The third time I finally picked up and heard a bit of shuffling for a few seconds, then a young lady spoke saying she was from the commonwealth bank and knew my first name, and was doing some 'general checks'. I had already suspected that this call was fraudulent so I told her she would not get any details from me and that I've looked up the number listed, which she then seem surprised because she said the number should be showing up as 'blocked'.

For anyone else who comes across this page, if you looked up the same number, do not under any circumstances answer any of their questions, as I highly doubt this has anything to do with the CBA. The best thing to do is call them yourself and let them know of the fraudulent call.

CBA r not allowed to call u regarding a limit increase they must get your permission in writing.

I had this phone number ring me last night inviting me for a credit card limit increase, i did not give any information to them, afterwards i rang CBA to confirm this, CBA confirmed that it was legitimate. But i still think that it is strange.

This number just called, after I said hello and my full name I heard a lot of papers shuffling, a man cough and splutter and then hung up...strange.

Same thing, they called, i answered i heard some girls in the background laughing then i hung up. I am with the CBA so i'm not surprised i got a call. Still seems dodge to me.

someone claiming it was a "service call" and they wanted my name and birth date to confirm my identity before they would tell me what it was about.
I said no
and he promptly got off the line with me.

I also got one of these approx Midday, 30/11/12.

In short: no company, especially a bank, should call you and then ask to prove you are who you say you are - this is how identity theft occurs!

The CBA has my phone number.  It's good enough to send me SMS messages to confirm a new account I wish to SEND MONEY TO so they should NOT need to prove who I am when THEY call me!  They should be proving they are the CBA!

I received a call from this number on my work phone. The speaker claimed he was from the Commonwealth bank. He asked to speak to my wife - he knew her name and that we were married. Unfortunately I took the caller seriously and gave them our home number to contact my wife. There was then a lot of laughter in the background. After speaking with my wife I am certain this call did not come from the bank as she reminded me that they don't have my work phone number. We have got scam calls several times now but this is the first one on my work phone - I am starting to think the calls are connected to someone who has got information off one of three internet sites - either  Seek (job search); our Nokia comes with music account or our Optus prepaid account - as I've noticed the scam calls come within  24 hours of someone from our home using these sites.   .

Just hung up from this number. The bloke said he was from the Commonwealth Bank but would not give me any details about the call until I verified who I was. I refused and hung up. Even if it is legit, it's the wrong way to go about things.

I just got a call from this number and it was very crackly and I couldn't make out what they were saying and then the line went dead so I didn't get a chance to say anything or find out what the call was about..thanks to all of you I now know not to answer it if I see it again.

Just had a call from 02 8887 9600, Said they were CBA, When they had to start asking security questions, I decided not to, I don't care if its legitimate, can't trust anyone.

Just called the bank after receiving a call from this number then reading these comments. It checks out, they are legit. Don't know why they sound so suss on the phone though, I was worried there for a bit.

I had missed call from this number this morning. Rang it back and got the "Welcome to the commonwealth bank" recording followed by endless hold music. Googled the number while waiting and saw his page. I called CBA on their 132221 number. Was informed that "it sounds like a phishing scam" but "can't confirm that it's illegitmate". Apprently it's a similar number to the CBA Home Loan arears team - but I don't have a loan with them. The guy said he couldn't find any record of CBA needing to speak to me, but if I receive any further calls from 02 8887 9600 to ignore them.

Got a call from this number today.
I answered, but the call disconnected before anyone spoke to me.
Thanks to this forum, now I will ignore them if they try again!

just now i got a call from this number. The guy in the phone asked me for some personal information. I refused to provide, then he hung up quickly. will never trust anyone who calls from this number again!
