They are a scammer

I'm a student currently studying in Adelaide, I just got a call from someone claiming that I just won the second prize of 15 thousand AUD because I helped fill up one of their questionnaires thru phone. He also added that the lucky draw took place on a dinner on the 28th of March in Melbourne, and that it was a pity I did not go to their draw as one of the other prize winners got the prize right at the spot.This is obviously a scam, beware!

Roughly...
1:Caller A will ask for your bank details(DO NOT GIVE OUT!!!) and any ID number in the first call.
2:Then Caller A will ask you to call their MAIN COMPANY NUMBER (001185265170385) to confirm you as the prize winner by Caller B.
3:Caller A will call you again and give you their Organizer Manager(Liang Jing Ru) for the details to get the prize.
4:The Organizer manager will call you and say "Why you did not claim your prize after so long?! It's a grand prize of $150,000. " and blah blah blah about their company in Hong Kong and the prize sponsorer, then the acountant and lawyer and stuffs.
5:The OM will start on explaining about ''taxes that government will charge 15% on any prize cost more than $3,000. So the tax for a prize of $150,000 is $22,000. Due to the big amount of money you need to pay for the tax before you even get the prize money, we had discussed this matter with our sponsor that we will pay for you first,(student and handicapped people),but of course we will deduct from your prize later on.''
-(And then she will get some phone call in the background to make their company sound legit, discussing some matter about delivery of prize to someone... etc..)
-then she will get a call from some secretary, quoting your name... etc
-then she will quote some charity activities their company organized for the China earthquake, and some one won the prize but did not pay back the tax their company had paid for, so to make sure the transaction is safe, we will have to charge you $4,500 as insurance which will be deducted from the $22,000 they paid for.
-then talk bout Western Union, you must pay by cash, because it's the fastest transfer service available than bank which will take up 3 days.... etc
- you must bring your ID, $4,500 cash and $190 stam duty for your transfer before we can give you the
prize to Western Union

-and I did not follow up after that... but it was fun.. i even recorded the conversations.. just in case..=]
way wicked.. my first phone scam!!!

I got 3 times call from 02 8986 9500 and when i pick up the phone, there is no voice at all

WOW I got scammed through eBay. They bought one of my items and then phone harassed me saying that they had paid and I must send goods now. No money dude so you aint getting squat!! Anyway anyone by the name percious cole on eBay is bad juju. They also call from mobiles and speak in a thick accent!

I am getting around 5-6 calls every night from this number, some of them at 10.30pm

I havnt been answering the calls because i did not know the number.

Got a call listed as this number.  Looks like a NSW number but the call was from the US.  It was a friend calling so that's OK but the number is just wierd.  Could it be international calls ger rerouted through a local number?

Got a couple of calls from this number but was in a meeting and missed them. Tried to ring back but no luck.

got a call from 0289869500 at 2am this morning!!! thought i might type it in to google coz i didnt know the number and look what i found! nigeria just doesnt let up.... how do these people sleep at night????.....

Yeah I got a call from them they even quoted a Website which i did. grilled them and she couldn't answer any of my questions. then she hung up. uesless telemarketing organizations obviously. I could hear a tele center in the back ground so this is no one person. called them back and get the prerecorded message "the network is currently experiencesing techinical difficaulties, please try again later. h2yi

got a call from this # checked this site and hullo wadda u know, scammer, tsk tsk

Got a missed call from this number this morning. Tried to call it back and just got an engaged signal.

Will have to see if they keep ringing me!

Someone is telling me I won a holiday to Bahamas..... [***]. Phone keeps cutting out, they have rung 3 times already.

I keep on getting a call from that number, stating he is calling from the USA and I had won a prize of a holiday in Florida from a competition I filled out (which I can not ever remembes specifically going into).  Then he goes on to say that we can purchase a holday in Florida at a discounted rate that tour guides are given and then tries to ask more personal details. I ended up hanging up. the person constantly rings at various hours but I let it go to message bank where they do not leave any message only hang up.  I told him last time that I did not want them to call back again.

Did not disclose the company's name that he was calling from.  I presume it is telemarketing but notsure because he would just ask me questions and not answer mine.

I'm getting the same thing.... It's really weird. Was a private number the first 2 times then from this number......... Are you in Australia?

I too have a missed call from 02 8986 9500 only an hour ago.  I didnt answer it as I was suspicious.  Checked this site and find it intersting the # of others who think alike!  Been getting odd calls on home phone too of late.  Not sure the # they called from, but they quoted I had a virus on my computer and I needed to log on right then so they could fix it! Very heavy accent and had time delay.... Again I was suspicious.  Not sure if the two are related, or if Im trying to be scammed by 2 different scammers.  Either way, Im not falling for it!!!!!  Annoying thing is I have only recently updated my details on the government provided anti scammer site - makes me even more suspicious; and yes Im from Australia.

Just got a call from business associate in US on this number 02 8986 9500 which looks like a NSW caller. Wierd!

This guy tryed to say i won a hoilday to florida and ill be staying at the hilton hotel..And first class tickets for me and five people,Then go disneyland and stay 14 nights on a cruiseship to the bahamahs..he tryd really good to convince me,ill give him that but i knew it was a scam when he said all i have to do is pay $998 for promotional fees,and trying to take my bank details..Damme americans and their accents.

Yep I got this one too:
2 from unknown then 5 from 02 8986 9500 all just after 11:30pm NSW EDST ! and they didn't even leave a message (and I have left my name for them either haha!)!
At least I now know form this site who they aren't! Dirty F'ers.
