Keeps sending Txt threatening legal action if not replied to.

Dear ..... please contact ACM-HEAD OFFICE as a matter of urgency
and quote ref ..... to prevent any further action.

NOT A SCAM!

A debt collection agency
In my case they had made a mistake and SMS'd me looking for wrong person.
I contacted them on a landline and they promptly cleared my number from their database.

As Rob stated - this is form a Debt Collection Agency, Advanced Credit Management. I'm assuming people are giving them the wrong details so they can't be tracked down for their bad credit payments or something.

If you call them on their toll-free number 1800 673 668 and tell them that you've been getting SMS's for someone they'll ask you for the ref number on the SMS (the QUOTE number, in my case 4052957) and they'll remove your number from the name it was attached to.

I got a new number, for a spare phone, and occasional I get this text message for the name Michael.

Should I do the right thing and let them know, or just ignore them. I have received about 3 or 4. I also got a voicemail message, but since I got no credit with Vodaphone, and not planing to get any, I can't check it.

Gave the number a call from a land line and they removed my number from their system in minutes. Lets hope I don't get any more otherwise I'm going to get pretty frustrated.

The replies in this thread are fake, ACM is a scam, no phone company sells their debt to another company and gives them the previous number. Ring what ever phone company your with and ask and they will tell you the same thing. Also do not ring them as they are simply fishing for information,The name they send you in the text is randomly selected, once they have your real name they use it in other phone based scams, from various call centers.

They are Debt Collectors. someone called Peter Vieira left a message (if that is his real name). I would NEVER call these people back. I they can track down your work number they will call you endlessly there too.

Got about 1/2 dozen calls a day then a threatening text. Apparently a Telstra debt. Haven't been with Telstra for donkeys years. Was confusing me as this came out of the blue. I emailed them and said I have no record of any such debt and I would call Telstra directly. I did and Telstra said they have no such record of any debt. Telstra said delete them, they're a scam. Haven't had one phone call, text or email since.

Then why did Telstra tell me they are after I contacted them about the 'apparent debt'.

I got a call from "Anne" with a reference number to quote.  Anne wouldn't tell me who ACM was until I identified myself with my birthdate & address, for "privacy reasons".  I declined to do so.  I googled "ACM" while I was on the phone.  Worked out they weren't the Australian College of Midwives!  Anne admitted they were ACM Group, a debt collection firm.  The person they were looking for, with the same name, was born 16 years after me.   Isn't Google wonderful!  These aren't the 'droids you're looking for.

I've had a number of calls from this number and a number of messages I've asked what does acm stand for but the person I get on the phone said that there not incline to answer my question
