A female indian caller phoned a friend of mine earlier today stating she was calling from Microsoft in relation to a potential problem that they had identified with my friends computer. The computer has subsequently crashed and I am trying to identify if the caller was genuine or if she was a scammer.

A client of mine got the same call, from a "Charlie Watson" I rang them and queried what their ABN and address was.  They said they only had an an ACN 911 112 5679, address E1/floor 6 18 Walker St Sydney 2059.  The ACN is obviously fake and the address appears residential above the UTC Korea building in Rhodes.  This client had a heap of Trojans on board.  They did buy their computer system from a cheap and nasty place in Sydney though - be interesting to know if this is a common denominator - cheers :)

sounds like my friend has somehow met up with a scammer and her computer has been infected.  Luckily she quickly turned it off, but as its crashed I may have to do a reinstall Windows for her as I don't know what her machine has been infected with.

HI i work in a troubleshooting call centre , i have had many calls today, about a company calling customer and say they are Microsoft and entering computer and changing and infecting computer with many things,, PLEASE IF YOU GET A CALL FROM THIS NUMBER 02-91916514,, PLEASE HANG UP THIS IS A SCAM,, note companies like Microsoft do not call customers.

Hi, I just received a call from the same people. A woman told me my computer had errors and then asked if I had a computer (??) I asked who she was and where she was from. Her name was Sonia from Windows in Sydney. I put my partner on the phone because she could barely speak English and he can understand broken English better than I can (I'm hopeless with it), then after a few minutes Sonia put my partner onto a guy called Edward, supposedly the tech support person. I told Adam to tell them to hang on, and while they were hanging on, Adam looked up some things on google. I took the phone and asked Edward if we could call them back. He gave me the number 02 9191 6514 (I don't have number display). Adam found the scam on google and I found this site by googling the number. Adam is currently watching a youtube video about recording the call, I'm unsure whether to call back and record them as they will probably know we're onto them. Will write again if we do or find out anything further.

LOL I just got a call back from these people. She said "you didn't call back in 10 minutes". I told her I didn't believe she was from Microsoft. "Ok bye bye thankyou" she said and hung up.

Jenny from Windows User called, saying she was sent an error report from our system and wanted me to turn my computer on so she could show me our infected items.

Windows don't have our contact details, let-alone call us like this. They don't fix our PC's "infections" anyway.

A scam..  some indian man rang, Stupid idiots, scarin' the life out of my mum who was too scared to use the computer for a whole day. If you get a call from them, ignore it, hang it up and forget it about it. They are not Microsoft, they are lying scamming fools.

Got a call from William Smith (Dodgy Already) from Windows/microsoft to fix my computor problems, was very suss, I asked for a contact No and quickly googled it finding this page. Told them I will get my computor Tech to call them back and look into the problem, where they were very quick to say OK and good Bye!

I just had a call from an indian/asian lady speaking very poor english. She told me she was from my Windows Service Provider and they had identified some errors on my computer. When I continuously questioned her about the authenticity of the call she gave me 02 9191 6514 to call in case I want them to help me later. I'm so glad I'm not someone who believes blindly and I ended up googling the number to find out that it's a scam, just like I'd suspected.

On 31/7/10 I received a telephone call from a purported Windows service provider who spoke with an Indian accent  who told me my system was just about to crash. He demonstrated the problems on my computer by getting me to type in "prefetch",  "malware" and "eventvwr" in the "Run" command. It showed numerous problems. He referred me to their Web page ("Windowssupportonline") and gave me his number (0280915001) to satisfy me he was genuine. I stupidly bought a 6 month subscription for $50 paying through "Payalert". He commenced to correct errors on my computer from his site with a chat line being open while he was doing it.
After 1/2 hour I got a call from another person ("Sean Johnson")  who sounded very much like the first person,  also told me he was from a Windows service provider and my computer was about to crash. I told him it was already being repaired from someone from his company. He told me that they were not the same. He directed me to his company's webpage "helpdesk386", said I was being scammed by the other person, told me to google the other persons telephone no. and see the comments, shut down the computer, cancel the $50 payment ASAP. I did that. It was too late to stop payment. I cancelled the credit card.
I called him back (0291916514, 018000148779). He offered to check my computer remotely to see if it had not been corrupted. He did that and through a program identified thousands of errors that he could clean up. He asked if he could do it remotely. I agreed. A chat line was open when he was doing it. After a couple of hours I had to leave. It was in the middle of him loading some software. He deleted the software and we arranged for him to contact me a couple of days later to finish. He asked for payment by entry into one of his business plans - cheapest $129 for 12 months where they would check and speed up the computer monthly (see their web page) . I told him I could not pay him by credit card as I cancelled the card but could pay him through EFT. He said that he could only take payment through credit card or Paypal. I said I would arrange payment through Paypal when he rang me.
Meanwhile I asked him to email me with his details and that of  his business. I have heard nothing from him.

This is still happening. I received a call from these people again today. Please on no account do anything that these people say.... complete SCAM!

I received a call today at dinner time from a indian/asian lady who could barely speak english.  She said she was calling from my Windows Service Provider.  The call display number said unknown name and the phone number was 01192582.  I didn't recognize the number.  What part of it is the area code?  Anyway, I recognized the call as a scam right away and before she could get another word in I cursed her out and hung up the phone.  These people really tick me off.
