Tax reimbustement

This person is calling unsolicited calls and phoning business claiming Brad steveson is his name on ext 078.

and claiming he is from the Australian Taxation office. This is a scam

Exactly the same as me in all details. Promising a refund of several thousand dollars because I get Centrelink Payments. He wanted me to go to the post office, pick up a Western Union Money Form, go home, ring him to help me fill out the form and then go back to the post office where the money would then be sent to me 15-20 mins later. Very insistant to know how long it would be before I called back. Pffft, I called the police who referred me to DOCEP who already knows and thanked me for calling. :-S

Same message as above, only I rang tax office and they knew nothing about it. The actual call came from an overseas number but he gave me the above number to ring back ext 12

Similar previous reports above. Called today from the tax office in Canberra.Said that I would be entitled to a refund of $7,600. He wanted me to go to the post office, pick up a Western Union Money Form, ring him back on the 02 9191 9703 & he would help me fill out the form.

It sounded like he was in a call centre & quite insistent.

I know that the tax office does not operate in this manner. They will either deposit a refund into your account or send a cheque through the Reserve Bank - not through Western Union.

Exactly the same as above. $7600 promised if I phoned the canberra number to start the process. Caller used my previous name, not my married name, so that made me suspicious.

The ATO will NEVER ask for a security deposit.  Ever.  In any circumstance.

It's terrible that these people are attacking pensioners, but am I the only one wondering HOW they got information about you in the first place?

My mother just got the same call, for the same amount. She took his number and called him back, but I told her hang up because the ATO would never call, only write. She is calling the ATO now to report it.

The number he called from was 02 9191 9703. Accent was Indian, Middle Eastern or similar

I have just had exactly the same call.  Go to Post Office, fill in Western Union form to get $7600,  etc etc
Voice sounded Asian with an office/call centre sounding background.  Got suspicious with method of payment.  ACO doesn't work that way.

Recieving same calls...02 6140 3468 also 02 8355 4170. Private number also and got a text from himaa same requirements same amount....

Yep got it too!!! Just half hour ago. Thought very strange so tried to call number back and is no good. Reported to Police and banks and phone company

Got a call telling me Tony Abbott was refunding me $7600 and to claim this money I had to phone 02 91919703 and gave me a case number 247821B, also an address in Canberra to visit if I wished.

I've had 10 phone calls from them today. I called back and was abused and called a [***] after insisting they stop calling. Charming people. All indians or Pakistani. And they're in a call centre.

I just got off the phone with the an indian sounding man who called from 02 9191 9703 claiming he was from the ATO in Canberra claiming that i was entitled to a rufund, with out even saying a name when i answered. he then gave me my Dads name and said He was entitled to a $7600 refund becasue Tony Abbott Changed some law. I google the number and found that it was a Scam.

Some guy doing a really dodgy Indian accent called us saying he was from "Inland Revenue" and claimed his name was Michael. He kept asking for my sister and said the Tax Department owed her money. He got our last name wrong and called back after I hung up.
