Got a call from Computer Maintenance Dept of Techis Online said I had polymorphic viruses that couldn't be detected by most antiviruses and they could help me fix it. Asked how they got this info they said my service provider told them but this was not true when I checked.  Iasked for a contact phone number which they gave me.Don't know what their scam was but I wouldn't give them access to my computer

I just got a call from theses people as well. They pleaded with my girlfrend to let them into our computer.
They are clamming that they are working for Windows Microsoft, but are an independent company.
I wouldn't give them any details or access.
Very strange.
Be very careful people.
Going to report this to Microsoft & the Police.
It sounds like FRAUD.

Hi I got a call from an Indian sounding chap who could barely speak English (name Raijim?) who insisted I had a polymorphic virus on my computer.  I insisted he name the virus and e-mail me the error report.  He insisted he speaks to my husband.  I insisted he give he company name, contact number, the name of the virus and a copy of the error report.  Needless to say the call terminated.  These guys must be frauds!!!

I got this call also. Trying to gain access to my computer for the same reasons everyone else has said.

Same game, wanted to know if my wife could go to the computer to help remove a virus. Said his name was Ray James.(Traditional indian name?) When my wife told him that only her husband could help with 'computer' things... he left his number and asked for me to call back between 11-4pm. He also said he was employed by our "service provider", but did not name it. The only other info was that he was based in QLD, and had a strong Indian accent.
They had my wife's surname...   and home number obviously.

Had my parents-in-law (in rural Vic) call me to ask what I'd thought.  They'd had a call from these guys too, with the same story as above.  I told them to ignore it; they're so obviously scammers.  Googled the number and found this site.
This may also be related: a friend of theirs had a very similar call, and were informed that the bank owed them about a thousand dollars in unpaid interest.  All they had to do was send $174 to get the the thousand paid.  A very, very obvious scam, but one that could pull people in.

My sister received a "helpful" call from this number yesterday.

Can anyone please advise how this scam can be reported to the police?

I have also just had a call from these people.  To be honest I couldn't understand their English, very strong perhaps Indian accents.  They were wanting me to log onto the computer so they could talk me through fixing the problem, it just sounded dodgy and I couldn't understand how they would have got my number.  It was very weird and I suspect fraudulent.  Needless to say I asked to call back later and got given this number. Is there somewhere to report this?

Yep, pretty much the same sort of experience as everyone else here. In fact they're quite persistent. I told them I wasn't interested, so they called the next day with another family member's initials. Hope something can be done to stop them. Amazing how quickly they end the call once they realise you are not going to fall for their tricks!
