    JUST GOT A CALL FROM "HOME ENERGY" SAYING THAT IT WAS AN EDUCATIONAL CALL TO HELP US GET GRANTS ON LOFT INSULATION. I EXPLAINED I WAS ON TPS AND HE SAID I MUST HAVE SLIPPED THROUGH THE SYSTEM, BUT PERSISTED IN ASKING QUESTIONS TILL IT BECAME CLEAR I HAD HAD ENOUGH. TPS DOESN'T SEEM TO WORK !

    Yes, we all have had these wretched calls & of course no message is left.
    Does anyone out there know if the TPS has any power or can actually take these A/H's to court?
    WHY SHOULD WE HAVE TO PUT UP WITH ALL THIS CRAP 24/7?
    Short of removing these A/H's from this planet, How do we stop this intrusive & annoying habit that seems to have the backing of our laws, Police & TPS!!!

    I have been called 3 times today by 08000280001 who have hung up each time. Demented or what..! I am registered under TPS so Anthony please get your skates on and start checking the TPS database. You are simply wasting time calling me as I don't buy anything on the phone.

    Yet another cold call - TPS does not seem to operate as I had hoped.

    Pestered by this and many other numbers so I got a new phone which has 'INCOMING NUMBER BAR', hopefully the 20 memories set aside for this feature will be enough to keep these scum at bay.

    This phone just checks the barred list and does not even ring - bliss !
    I am sure there must be other gadgets out there that could be added to an existing phone .... as long as your have paid for caller id to be enabled.
    ( why is caller id  free on mobiles but not on landlines anyway ??? )

    Once again I got a call from UK Energy Advice implying that they were operating on behalf of the Government !!
    'I'm on the telephone preference service' I said
    'That's OK 'cause we're not trying to sell you anything.' she replied
    I said 'OK where does your revenue come from?'
    'I dont know what you mean' said the young woman
    'put me on to some one who does - a director ?' I said
    'oh I'm not allowed to do that' she replied
    poor girl I dont blame her but she is misleading people and dear old Tony boy better get on the case before someone takes them to task!!
    So who is going to do something effective about these cold callers?

    I am registered with the telephone preference service and recived a call from "UK Energy advice" earlier this week, i was initialy very frustrated with recieving the cold call but after listening to what the young man had to say i realised it be benefitial to use a grant and that the extra insulation would save me even more money on the rising cost of heating. So yes most cold calls are a pain however, this particular one is of some benefit. All comments aside these people are just doing a job and if we just answer their questions we will be processed through their system and therefore removed from their list!!!

    I keep getting calls from this number, I am still ignoring the phone when they ring but its becoming a pain.  I also have both my numbers registered with TPS (but only one of them gets this call)

    Just got one of these 'Nuisance calls' which is what they are.
    Woke me up! I'm TPS registered too. This company is ignoring the law
    that requires them to filter all of TPS numbers out of their predictive dialling system. So I talked to BT nuisance calls dept. They are going to contact this company direct and ask why they are flouting regulations that they a duty to
    adhere to.
    I'm also going to send them a bill for my time....and when it remains unpaid I shall send them a reminder backed up by a solicitor's letter.

    I have now spoken to a number of relevant organisations including the ICO
    and it would seem that if you are TPS registered and receive calls from this company on more than one occasion it not only constitutes a nuisance but may be
    interpreted as harassment which is a criminal offence.
    You shouldn't have to switch off your phone to avoid receiving these calls.
    The law regarding these companies needs to be changed. Instead of having to opt out of receiving marketing calls via the TPS, you should have to make the choice to opt *in*. Most of these companies would then find that any revenue garnered by cold calling would simply disappear, and so would they.
    I would be interested to know if anyone here who has an ex-directory number has received any calls.

    in response to 'old jeffers',l am ex-directory and also registered with TPS and l have been getting calls,not only from this number but many others.Most times the line is silent when l pick up so l usually just put the phone down.When someone does answer, it is usually someone conducting a customer survey, trying to sell me something,but always a complete waste of their time and mine.It annoys me, so l can imagine how frustrated the disabled or elderly people feel.

    I have received several calls from 08000280001 in the last 3 or 4 months. They always terminate either before I lift the receiver or very soon afterwards; nobody has ever been on the other end.

    Most calls on my landline are nuisance calls, except the occasional call from family - 99% of calls are on our mobile numbers. (I only have a landline number because to have DSL broadband in the UK they rip you off for a telephone service you don't need.)

    @ "Old Jeffers" - I too am TPS-registered and ex-directory.

    @ "Colin" - "BT Privacy at Home" includes "Caller Display" at no extra charge, as long as you make at least two chargeable calls with BT per month.

    I have recieved these calls and have been asked which energy saver I use.  On refusing to give the information (as its not any of their business)I have been threatened to be called every hour till I give the information, then I was called back and abused down the phone with threats to come to my house as I was a female alone and kill me!!!! Police are involved so any information on this company would be greatfully recieved.
