Yes, they attempted to phone me today.
My phone rang for about 3 seconds before it hung up.
I phoned back, and it says HSBC customer services and no further action is required

I just got called too.  The woman, very annoyingly, asked me if it was a good time to talk - I said that it depends what it's about and how long it'll take - she then said "all I can tell you is it's a service call and there's nothing to worry about".  I asked her what it was about and she repeated this exactly and said goodbye.  What the hell was the point of that? Any ideas?

At 1405 today I received a call from this number - the male caller said he was from HSBC and although initially he addressed me by my surname he then went on to verify my Christian name - which the bank has never done.  When he said that he would have to start with verification of my bank security questions I point blank refused saying that I didn't call them - they called me and I had absolutely no idea who they were.  He assured me he was from HSBC and said that when I hung up if I dialled 1571 then there would be a message from HSBC waiting for me.  There was no message ....

Did not bother to call the number as all it takes is someone primed to answer HSBC - which proves nothing.

SO PLEASE BEWARE ...do NOT give security details to a company ringing you only to a company that you have rung.

This is very suspect since yesterday I explicity refused to give out security details, they tried again today. I believe by refusing I simply confirmed that I was with HSBC and so I think they will try a few more times. Very poor methodology if this is genuine HSBC but I am suspecting it is telephone phishing.

I called HSBC complaints about this number. The lady there put my mind at rest by saying that it is one of their dedicated numbers. The person I spoke to was trying to get me to upgrade my account to 'HSBC plus' - at a cost, which may or may not be offset by the way I use my account. She assured me that they should only request very few identifying details just to check they are speaking to the correct person. In my case last bit of my postcode and part of my date of birth. She said that if anyone is not sure then to ring customer services number at HSBC (which incidently the caller should provide if you are unsure- mine didn't).

I kept getting this call every day for about a week. I eventually answered and questioned what they were up to. the Lad on the phone got a bit jumpy and kept trying to hang up so i thought i was onto something. He got my middle name wrong and refused to tell me the nature of the call unless i gave him security info.

I called HSBC afterwards and it is their number and it's just a survey, i asked why they ask for security details before they will reveal the nature of the call and he didn't have a very good answer so i feel justified having a go at him.

HSBC said they don't leave voicemails because they can't guarantee that you will be the person who picks up the message, which makes some sense.

If anonymous did work for HSBC he should leave them and go work in a sewer. Cold calling is the irritation, not people like John who is exercising due caution.

This number has just been ringing me, I googled it whilst it was ringing and it bought me to this site.  So thanks for all the above I will answer it next time.  Although I will be mad at HSBC if they are trying to sell me a product (so I hope anonymous is right and it is important otherwise he's the d***head) as I specfically told the woman in the branch that they could only have my mobile number if they used it only for urgent matters ie identity fraud etc, otherwise a complaint letter will be sent.

I've been called by this number a stupid amount of times, it rings once or twice and stops!!
Spoke with HSBC and they don't know the number, but I've been removed from their
list for cold calling. Since than no bloody calls!!, funny as I didn't ask to be on the list
in the first place, tick or not tick a box on a form.

Just don't answer any questions, and call the call centre!

I received a call from this number about 2 weeks ago. It is definitely HSBC - not a scam.

However the guy I spoke to went on for about 15 minutes about converting my current account to a Plus Account. I eventually got him off the phone but made the mistake of saying I would think about it. Since then I have had about 10 missed calls from the number.

I also don't appreciate these calls. Cold calling from your bank trying to hard sell is not really what I expect. I'm sure I've always ticked to say that I don't want these types of phone calls. There's never a good time is there?! I'm either at work or at home trying to relax!!

Please, everyone 'Do not give your personal details to anyone who rings you, under any circumstance, even if they state that your account is under threat from an unknown source..This is a typical scam, to make you think that this isn't a scam, when they are reporting to you of a possible attack on your account why would you suspect the caller?. They are trying to lull you into a false sense of security and then ask for you JUST to confirm your details..MANY, I STATE AGAIN MANY, MANY people have fallen for this..Please be aware.

Called HSBC business banking, they called the number and confirmed this was from an HSBC service (apparently due to the message they received on calling. Will question why the ask for personal details when they call back again. Which noo doubt they will.

Had a missed call on my mobile from this number.  As one of the responses says above, if they wanted you for something they would leave a message but they don't, so just don't answer the phone.
