- Pat| 1 replyI want to know who called me?
- V| 1 replyAny ideas who this is?
- charliethey told me they are from HSBC.
However I am kind of worried whats going on...
I asked them to call back later on- Caller: HSBC ?
- Fred BloggsI think they are HSBC. They always call me from an 0800 number. But to be sure ask them to confirm your details, or to go one better, just say you will call HSBC back on the normal number, and hang up.
- ChrisI was called by this number yesterday and was told the they were HSBC before I lost signal. I called HSBC this morning to ask why I was being contacted and they said there there was nothing wrong with my account and that there were no flags against it. They said that if it was important they would call back. This morning is was called again from this number, told that it was HSBC and asked to give my post code and date of birth for security reasons. I questioned the called who said that this was a routine call and they could send me the "information" in the post. To which I answered "yes please", then the caller hung up.
If you ask me this was a fraudulent request for my information. I'm pretty sure that it is company policy not to ring the customer and request details from them.
If you are worried I would suggest calling HSBC and asking them about your account. - ChrisAfter calling HSBC once more, I have now been told that it was their service team.
- andywhen they rang my a 3pm , they stated my full name, not many companies know my full name (inclusive of middle name, i very rarily give that out)
if hsbc ring u it should be withheld- Caller: HSBC (supposingly)
- DanielI had the same phone call. So afterwards i phoned the HSBC security number and they told me it was their service/marketing department and that what they ask is normal for that department. Seems a bit wrong though.
- Caller: HSBC
- KLCalled today, from very noisy callcentre - they gave date of birthday & asked to confirm month & year, also they gave first half postcode, asked me to confirm second half, possibly a bit dodgy, but they also knew my account balance and entitlements, so I'm going with it being OK. Basically trying to sell me on the benefits of an ugraded account, so marketing team seems right.
- Caller: HSBC
- Gareth| 1 replyAlso got a call from this number. I was a bit suspicious as they wanted to know my postcode and date of birth but wouldnt tell me why they were ringing until I answered the security questions.
They seemed very pushy so I told them to ring back another time. I didnt want to tell them my security details until I was sure they were actually from HSBC and they wouldnt answer my questions until I answered the security questions. If it is a sales call I dont like their technique!
Why do we have to confirm who we are when our banks ring us on our confirmed phone number. We never ask HSBC to confirm who they are when we ring them.... - wango[***]
- adr2_050800304909 called me and asked for security questions before they can disclose the nature of the call they said it was from HSBC. i said i was not prepared to give any information because i didn't know if the call was a genuine call from HSBC. So ended the call and called HSBC Costumer service and they said that there was no record that they were trying to contact me and then the attendant tried to call that number while i was on hold and came back to me that no one answered on that number and he wasn't sure if it was a hsbc line.
Bottom line is "Do not answer Secure questions if weren't you who called your bank". - PeterDont bank with HSBC...but just got a call from them...odd!
- Caller: HSBC (supposed)
- HollyThe number that calls you is a customer retention team if you have cancelled say a credit card or bacnk account with them then a retention team will call you. The only way I found this out was by calling the telephone banking number and stating that I was not going off the phone until I knew who was calling me.
- Caller: HSBC
- AndyI just missed a call from this number... but can guess it is HSBC's customer retention team as I signed up for information on a mortgage the other day. No doubt they will now hound me for the rest of my life!
- anonJust been called by them myself (0800 304909) and I kid you not they were so darn pushy, completely unprofessional in comparison the majority of staff calls I receive from HSBC. Sounded like a pushy saleswoman - I hate this approach, I became irritable and told her to get to the point - which was really nothing unusual (I was £13 overdrawn) so what's with all the hassle then? If this was a sales technique it was by far the worst I've heard. It was a 'computer says no' approach to some technical errors produced after I had tried to transfer funds from an uncleared cheque. I told her that but she was not listening. Eventually I just said thanks and hung up before the sales pitch kicked in...
- Caller: HSBC
- MarJust been called by this number. Said they were from HSBC. Name of Adam. He knew my full name. I asked how I could be sure this was from HSBC and he asked me to confirm the second part of my postcode. Of course, everyone in the whole area has the first part of the postcode! I didn't go any further with the conversation but am just about to phone HSBC to check on this.
Beware! - ShetlanderBeen called twice by this number claiming to be HSBC. Have no dealings with HSBC and there are no HSBC branches this side of the North Sea so am very confused!
- Caller: HSBC
- SteveI was called today from 08000 304909 by a woman who said she was from HSBC from a noisy call centre. She wanted the second half of my post code and my date of birth. I asked her why she wanted my d o b. For security reasons, so they could verify who I was, she said. I didn't want her "plus" package which would entail paying some £9 plus per month. Is this a fraud company? I'll be visiting the bank to report it and to complain if it is their marketing team.
- marettiThis is HSBC marketing, I'm with First Direct. I've had them call many times. What I do is say "before you continue, is this urgent? If so I'll call you back" More often than not they say its not urgent, end of call. Otherwise I call the number on the website.
