I don't know.  They called me today and asked for someone else by name.  I asked who was calling, but they wouldn't say. I informed them that I wasn't the person they'd asked for by name and they rang off!

They rang me, when I picked up the phone and before I could even say 'hello' the line went dead and they'd rung off!! Guess I'm going to get some sales call or other now from a slightly different number now that theyve ascertained they've rung a valid number - I hate these types of people ... grrrrrrr

Same thing happened to me today. Phone rang showing this number. As I answered it rung off.

I think it may be a PPI claims people, they rang and asked for my partner (I have no idea why they rang my mobile asking for him) just claimed this phone wasn't theirs, but they still keep calling back

Rang @ 1100 today. Kept asking me to confirm I was Edward - said it was "a free service Edward uses" and because of that the Data Protection Act forbids them from identifying themselves.
That's a new one on me but it is still utter piffle.
Kept up a "Tell me who you are before I identify myself" game of ping-pong for several minutes - the call was to my mobile at their expense - before just saying "No thank you" and hanging up.

It's part of PayPlan a not for profit Debt advisory service. This is their department that assist with PPI claims. They don't generally do cold calling and only contact people who are or have been clients of their debt advice service. They are cautious with identities as not all their clients share the fact they use/ have used their debt assistance service with partners/ spouses. Hence the insistence on establishing who they are talking to before they reveal who they are.
