Caller claimed to be from BT saying that I had complained about nuisance calls and that BT could now ensure that I never received nuisance calls again both home and international.  He provided a BT number 0800885480 that I could call (but never said why I should call it.) Proceeded to confirm my details;  name address phone number (which he told me) and then asked me to confirm that I paid by direct debit - then asked me to confirm the expiry date of my credit card at which point I told him that was enough.......

later phoned BT (hoax calls) amazingly not in Bangalore who confirmed it was not them.

I never stayed long enough to find exactly what they would do or wanted me to do once it was clear they were scamming

I had one of these calls asked for the number of my credit card that I payed my BT on. As I payed by direct Debit I suspected a scam so I gave a false number and he went away  happy. Yes it is a scam.

Just had the same thing, I refused to supply bank card details and told them I was terminating the call, I then waited 10 minutes before ringing BT back on a number I looked up in the net, and they confirmed it is a scam.

Just had the same experience! Suspicious as BT don't normally use numbers that show as 'unavailable' on caller display!! Went through all the details but they had an old address - over 3 years old! At this point I said that I was not prepared to provide or confirm any further details and would call their 'customer care line' to confirm that this was a genuine call!! He went away fairly quickly at this point! Assumed it was a scam and had this confirmed by the posts on this site. Will report to BT and log this number with the information commissioner as a scam!

I had same experience this morning..they woke me up so was half a sleep still..they said they were from BT and it was the LAW that I had to register with TPS..i said I was already registered with them..he proceeded to confirm my name ..address..debit card number..and the expiry date...then passed me over to his supervisor who continued to go thru payment of £ 49.99..I said NO I am disabled  I don't have that kind of money  he said it was a one off payment and I would receive no more nuisance calls...I said NO..he asked my age then apologised  and reduced it to £ 29.99  I said NO and he hung up..but he still had all my details on my card....going to pop to the bank and make sure its blocked

Like above. Received a call at 11am from man (foreign) to say he was from B.T. that  he'd spoken to us last year about unsolicited phone calls and that we would no longer be getting unsolicited calls. He checked name, address, post code and telephone number. He then asked how bills were paid and asked for expiry date of credit card. Asked him why he needed this and he said there would be a one off payment of £39.00. When asked who would be receiving this money he said it was B.T. He then asked again for card details and when told we would not be paying him call was disconnected. Although we are elderly thank goodness we are of sound (ish) mind and alert to these kind of calls which are coming far too frequent.

I was also called today I was told my address , and telephone number. I was then asked to write down a telephone number for customer care. The man on the phone then asked me to get my card, when I refused he said he only needed the long number off the front, again I refused. He then asked for the expiry date, which I again refused to give. I asked why he needed this information as my line supplier already had my billing details. Apparently it is to confirm who they are talking to. Think he finally realised he was getting nothing from me and told me goodbye and gave a happy life.
