I had the following suggestion on email, not tried it yet

"Do you ever get those annoying phone calls with no one on the other end?

This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone calls and records the time of day when a person answers the phone.

This technique is used to determine the best time of day for a "real" sales person to call back and get someone at home.

What you can do after answering, if you notice there is no one there, is to immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times, as quickly as possible . This confuses the machine that dialed the call and it kicks your number out of their system. Gosh, what a shame not to have your name in their system any longer !!! "

just ring 0800 9524871 and press the buttons to confirm you dont want any more calls. HTH

ok my last post didnt work - now getting more calls than ever grrrrr

Applied for an insurance quote last night and had 3 silent calls from 08009524851 today.  As recommended have called 0800 952 4871 (not free) and automated system added me to the no call list.

Will be back if it doesn't work!

Had a number of calls from this number. Now I know who it is, I have tagged it as 'Dumbass Morethan Computer' :)

3 calls a day everyday this week. Haven't answered one of them but they sure as hell dont give up.

I've had 3 calls today from this number! I only went on the website to get a quote which was REALLY expensive! Does this mean i'm going to be inundated with stupid calls all the time now?! I tell them to stop calling me, if there was anyone on the other end!

I am F*****g fuming, had constant calls now over last couple of days even after calling the number back and going through their system to ahve number removed, it doesnt work. So have just called up their customer service and had a go and they have told me THEY WILL REMOVE ME from their system, she will contact the marketing sales ppl!!!!!! I await in anticipation. Not happy to say the least with the number of calls. Why call someone and then hangup, like your then going to go with them for insurance! :-)

Called 10.25 am & just hung up!!!

Just had a call at 16:07...some guy said 'is this whoever?'.  I didn't catch the name properly and as I went to ask who? the call ended.  This was my first call from the number and I hope my last.

I'd been getting calls from that number - I called 0800 952 4871 and got a recorded message saying if i didn't want a follow up call from More Than to enter my number so I did - pressed 1 to confirm and hopefully I shouldn't be getting anymore calls!! all that for a pet insurance call!!

Number called this evening, didn't answer as it's an 0800 number, googled it and ended up here. looks like i'm in for a few weeks of this!!
I did answer a call this afternoon (15:30) from 01612178400 but when the indian bloke answered with 'is you car insurance due for renewal soon' i just hung up. Did get an online quote for car insurance from More Than a few days ago. horrifically expensive and following these tactics and reading here i will NEVER use More Than/Royal Sun Aliance EVER!

got a call today 30/07/08 just after I renewed my policy with more than they asked for mr XXXX (sounded foreign not English) and then hung up.

I never answer my mobile if I don't know the number. But this number just doesn't seem to get the message, they've called everyday for the last week and a bit! I don't have car insurance cos I can't drive, the only thing I can think of is that I use confused.com for pet insurance qoutes. They are starting to get on my wick big time :-(

Me too! I've managed to pick it up once, got as far as someone from the uk confirming my name then got cut off. ARGH.
