Just had a call from 01268 557 600, thanking me for participating in a survey a few months ago (I *didn't*), checking that my partner and I are homeowners with a minimum £25k income, and telling me to ring 0800 988 9904 to claim my break in Spain, UK, etc... "You have to ring the number RIGHT NOW, because there's a time limit on this offer"... "No, it's nothing to do with timeshare"
We'd been to one of their presentations a few years ago. Incredibly pushy salesmen, despite promises to the contrary, and once you got to the bottom of the spiel, the holiday "points" you are supposed to buy are virtually useless if you want to holiday at your choice of resort, particularly during the school holidays. (The salesman at the presentation eventually admitted as much, after hearing that my partner works for a major international law firm!)
When we tried to leave, the "senior client representative" started his patter, reducing the price of the points packages to 40% of the advertised price, and offering to throw in another 10% of bouns points. (Shows you the true worth of the packages if they can afford to do that!) His attempts to sell us holiday points (ANY holiday points, no matter how few - he offered us a "special deal" on a number of points that would get us one week's basic holiday each year) only stopped when my partner feigned tears and said she couldn't take any more of this pressure - not so soon after being made redundant... (Classic!)
So, fast forward to Apr '08, and I tell the girl calling me that we've already been to a presentationm and we're not interested in anything Club La Costa has to offer. "Oh, this isn't Club La Costa, sir - we're CLC Hotels and Resorts!" (Can't help but wonder what the CLC bit stands for, in that case...)
Having attended the presentation, you would have to attend a further presentation if you choose to take the offered holiday - you don't get anything for free, after all. I know the points purchased are available for use each year, but the number of resorts seemed limited...
Summing up, if you're happy to go "wherever, whenever", the points may be of use, but if, like me, you have a family, there's nowehere near enough availability during school holidays, and the money is better spent on last minute deals or package holidays. What we would have spent with CLC continues to fund regular trips to Egypt - we're all getting ready for our second visit to Sharm El Sheikh, Cairo and Jordan in the past 8 months :-)
