insulting message received from this number

Mirri, what did the message say? I also got an random message.

I got one too. The message reads:

"There are really only three types of people: those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who say, What happened? ? Ann Landers"

Be careful. Maybe responding will cost you if it's a "premium SMS service" - in which case its a scam.

Got the same message today... There are only three types of people. I replied, no response yet.

I replied and recieved no response. I have tried to ring this number on 13/02/2010 and number does not exist.

How would a number that was used the day before suddenly not exist? dOES THIS MEAN THE SIM CARD HAS BEEN DESTROYED?

Its a premuim line.
The sms's are vague enough so most people reply asking the sender to identify themselves.
Once you do this you are locked in and will be charged money.

Phone your SP and demand that they block the number. Refuse to settle for them telling you to send and sms with 'STOP' to this number.

Do you know which company it is that sends these messages?

I got this SMS too... I called Vodacom to make sure I wasn't being billed for anything and found out it IS a subscription Service Company. The very helpful woman at Vodacom said I could SMS STOP to 41360 or call 082 17866 (free from Vodacom) to make SURE I wasn't being billed for anything. That these companies can be allowed without any apparent regulation is appalling!

So, how can a number like this work and be unavailable on the Vodacom network in a time of RICA rulings etc. Someone is dodging a bullet while making a [***]-load of money from unsuspecting people.

I've been getting messages from this number for a while and I'm very sure that I have NOT subscribed to any services!  I sent the sms to 41360 and received confirmation from 0820048186 that I have been unsubscribed.  

This probably means that we're paying for these sms's??  I'm really upset.  It's like someone has access to your bank account and can take when or what ever they like!

Just got another sms from this number so i sms stop to 41360 and got the reply "ok" WTF how do you get subscribed to something you know nothing about

Thanks for the info on unsubscribing to this service.  Started yesterday but got in cleared now.

ALso got the same messages and never subscribed -- surely Vodacom must be able to trace this?

Ja, massive scam. They must have got a cell number database from somewhere and are just raking in the free cash by sending out thousands upon thousands of premium SMSs. Vodam HAS to be able to identify these people because they have to pay the "Premium service provider" from the charges they make to each person's account. I think the only way to stop this crap is to have a class action suite and sue Vodacom because they are complicitous.

I just got a text from this number. It was a quote from Ella Fitzgerald. This really makes me mad that we have to pay for this crap. Typical, I am so sick and tired of scams. No one seems to do anything about it either. I don't have the money to waste on these sms's. What do vodacom care as long as their pockets are lined.

I also got the Emma Fitzgerald message at 11pm and tried calling the number to find out who it came from, the number does not exist.  How is that possible??? I did not subscribe for any of this crap!!!
