- Duncan Pierce| 10 replies08443358495 / 0844 335 8495 / 08443-358495 . Got a call from Hillesden Securities Ltd, trading as DLC Direct Legal & Collections, who fraudulently claimed they had been assigned a debt from Black Horse Ltd. I have no debts of any type but were adamant that their records were correct, despite Black Horse denying any knowledge nor involvement. They subsequently posted me a letter, with the same allegation and demand for payment from PO Box 4777, Rugby, CV21 9FU, but with a return envelope address of Direct Legal & Collections, Freepost OF1153, Brackley, NN13 7WW. On the actual letter, they use Direct Legal & Collections, Buckingham Road, Brackley, Northamptonshire, NN13 7DN. They also quote their company registration number as being 1418063, a fax number of 01280-730582 and e-mail address of debt.post@dlcollect.co.uk and website of dlcollect.co.uk I would advise anyone called by them to ignore the call. They are simply scam artists picking names out of mailing lists and trying their luck. Nothing more than common thieves and conmen.

- Jane D replies to Duncan Pierce| 7 repliesHi. I came across your email. The reason for me writing is that are misleading people about Direct Legal and Collections. I worked for them for 6 years and they are a well established and reputable company who employ in the region of 450 staff. Makes me laugh with all these people writing on the internet to damn the companies that lent them money, but very happy to take the loan in the first place. It is not uncommon for people to forget or 'purposely forget' about debts they may have incurred many years. In the 99% of occasions it transpires the person did owe the money.
- DLC Survivor replies to Duncan Pierce| 1 replyI had a similar issue with endless confused and rude calls from DLC Hillesden Securities Ltd. In short it transpired that they do insufficient due diligence on the debts they buy for peanuts from loan companies desperate to offload the toxic debts they've accumulated on their balance sheets. On the advice of the local CAB, intervention by the Information Commissioner and taking them to County Court (Small Claims route) it cost them more than 3.5K when I accepted their out of court settlement to keep quiet. So desperate are they to be seen as professional, even when their actions demonstrate that they are transparently not so, that they are very willing to settle lest the press or credit industry journals got hold of a story of their unbelievable incompetence. Still, at least my favourite charity got a nice cheque! I'd sue the muppets!
- K Bolton replies to Jane DJane, yes, if they are proven to owe money, they ought to pay it, amnesia or not. However, these complaints are not from people who owe money (to Direct Legal and Collections nor the lenders they have bought these debts from) but from people who have been erroneously flagged by Direct Legal and Collections as debtors when they are not. These people may represent just 1% of DLC's book, but that still runs into hundreds of victims who should sue. If just 1% of the 450 staff you mention, say 4 or 5, carried out due-diligence on the debts DLC purchased there wouldn't be bad press about DLC from people being harassed for a debt that is unattributable to them. Curiously enough, I've had dealings with DLC in the past as a supplier. They were very slow payers and fairly iindicative of poor organisation and/or poor cash flow. Precisely the sort of profile a DCA which has a record of poor due-diligence in identifying genuine claims, wasting its resources pursuing null ones, and thus finding itself short of cash to pay its suppliers.
- Legal Eagle replies to DLC SurvivorHow to deal with Debt Collection Agencies such as Direct Legal & Collections Hillesden Securities Ltd who act in an unprofessional manner. These steps do not preclude you suing them and apply equally to trumped up as well as genuine debts.
1) Do not confirm your name or any other details over the phone to Direct Legal & Collections.
2) Log (and if possible, record) all calls to prepare a potential harassment case.
2) Bar nuisance call numbers.
3) Deal with the matter via post (There is no urgency). Standard letters are available here:

5) Appoint a representative if possible (E.g. Citizens Advice Bureau or Debt Advisor) and have them act on your behalf.
6) Be aware of the CSA Code of Conduct that Direct Legal & Collections must follow:

- Goldie replies to Jane D| 3 repliesi think you find jane the DLC are not the original lenders, they have either brought aload debts sold off by various other companies in the chain or are appionted on behalf another company.
Yes if people owe money you should repay - no argumenrt with that,
But what pisses me off about these companies like DLC ( and they DLC have rung me many times too - one woman was even called Jane !!! ) is that they ring people like me claiming I owe money when I am completeley debt free and have been for 8 years having never got into bad debt in the first place - only ever had 1 credit card and one bank loan, which ended 9 yrs ago and my credit has a zero balance.
The calls only stopped when I threatened legal action via my solictor in the courts.
So don't pretend that this firm is whiter than white , they are not!!! - steve replies to Goldie| 2 repliesDLC are just third party interlopers, who bought the debt for pennies in the pound.
You have no contract with these parasitical scum.
Don't speak to them , send all post back with a label over the address pane saying no contract return to sender.

know your true rights! - Boogie replies to steve| 1 replyThey send mail for last owners of my house. Done the NOT KNOWN AT THIS ADDRESS as well as no contract return to sender. But once they have an address they're relentless in their barrage of mail. 3 months short of 10 years at this address, own house no credit in last 25 years (excluding mortgage)
Numerous Phone calls made to these people. Other debt collectors got the same correspondence and stopped sending me mail. But not these people.. - Buttonboots replies to BoogieHave recieved 4 letters last week adressed to previous occupants.
Most companies accept an explanation that it has been 2 years since I moved here, the occupants they want are long gone!
But these people refuse to take this for an answer. They have stated that they have 'proof' that the person they want still lives here! Yet they are reluctant to produce this 'proof'...they just keep sending the letters. - big bad johnI started a payment plan with these [***] months ago, and now they keep ringing and wanting more, which quite simply they ain't gonna get.

- muddywheels replies to Jane D| 1 replyHi - I have had direct legal and collections set up direct debits on my bank account. It was my bank that drew my attention to this, and I have never heard of them. I don't owe any money to anyone, and the one loan I took out several years ago, was paid in full to the Liverpool and Victoria. In order to protect myself I am also a member of Privacy Guard, who vet all searches against my name. There has been none from Direct Legal and Collections, and my Bank have now flagged this company up against my account.
- Patzyann replies to muddywheelsHi all,
I do hope someone reads this. I was looking on net to see if other people were being harassed by dlc and found this site. I had received a letter that morning from them acussing me of not making a payment of which I have proof I did. That on its own is not unusual, what is the guy who signed the letter is no other than wait for it-------Duncan Peirce. Yes the man who wrote the first message on this page, strange to say the least. - stressedout!| 1 replyI am currently paying DLC regularly for a debt they purchased from Black Horse. They ask for a review every 6 months and I duly oblige with a slight increase in my installment However they have had the debt for 18 months and are saying they may apply for a CCJ for the full amount or get a charging order whatever that is, because at the rate I am paying it will take 6.5 years to pay off.
Are they allowed to do this even when I haven't defaulted? I have even offered to increase my payment again but the stroppy mare on the phone wasn't having any of it!
They are getting a bit aggressive in my opinion.. Any help please?- Caller: DL&C
- Call type: Debt collector
- DCA Hater replies to stressedout!ffs. Just stop paying them. They have no powers at all. Don't be intimidated. As a previous poster has said; these parasites buy your debt for pennies. They will NEVER enforce it. ignore them.
