Have just called Halifax - they have confirmed that FirstAssist operate the travel insurance policies for Halifax.  They have updated my details to bar marketing calls and mailings from Halifax and their companies.  Chap I spoke to was very helpful and offered to do this without me asking.

Have had 6 missed calls from this number today, calling on average every hour since about 11 this morning.  Already spoke to someone last week trying to sell accident insurance on behalf of Halifax, told him I wasn't interested, so why do they keep calling?

Just got this odd number this evening while I was online. Fortunately I could check the number and found this helpful, but annoyed page.

I concur with everyone's comments. No reason to call me and I am exdirectory.

My wife received a call this morning from 08450 262533 claiming to be from The Halifax.  A woman's voice said it was in connection with certain products she may be interested in, the first being accident insurance.  They said they took security very seriously and asked for her to confirm her date of birth.  It should have been them confirming it to her, surely.  There was no information that confirmed they were who they said they were. They asked my wife about her job, what leisure activities she took part in, and about my job.  The woman was overly friendly and chatty, talking about her children and trying to engage in conversation to gain my wife's confidence. We are in the Telephone Preference Service, and are ex-directory though we are Halifax customers.  Worried about identity theft, I warned her to ring off.  On ringing 1471 it gave the above number.  When I rang the number it was answered as First Assist - not The Halifax - and said that they were sorry they could not connect with us and that they would ring back later, whereupon it cut off without the opportunity to speak to someone.

Just googled this number and came across this site.  I have had the exact same experience as everyone, phone call from a very dodgy sounding guy asking for my date of birth!  No chance.

Will talk to Halifax.

Company stated they were calling on behalf of my bank

I just a call from 08450262533 they were selling insurance. They asked me for my date of birth, I wouldn't give them, so asked for details about why they were calling me. I was polite throughout. They were selling 'accident insurance' on behalf of Halifax. I told them I am not interested, he said 'Why not'. I just said I simply do not want it. I then asked to be removed from the list and he said he will do it I said thank you and hung up.
I hope being polite helps, because it is a frustrating job working in a call centre and having people abuse you on the phone, everyone's trying to make a buck.

I just got a call from this number and the guy was way too friendly and asking far too many personal questions. Quite unnerving actual.

Just had a the same call as everyone else. The caller introduced himself as a representative of the Halifax and then said he would need to confirm ID starting with my date of birth. I responded that I would not just give out my my date of birth and that I did not have an acount with Halifax. He hung up.
I am also Xdirectory and would like to know how they got my details.

this number has rang me 3 times a day for 3 days , when i answer they hang up whats going on .......i ve read recent info and im in the halifax too and if they ask for my details ill say how does f off grab you

this number has been calling me 2-3 times per day for a few months(iirc). I rarely answer my landline so I had no idea who it could be until it occured to me to google the number and I found my way here

Keep getting calls from this number, but line goes dead whenever I answer.

i did 1471, pressed 3, and a message said I was called by first assist on behalf of the halifax, was then given option to have mu number removed from their automated dialing list. So I did.

since finding this page I use it for every 0800 0845 0870 etc etc that calls me, once i establish it is a saes call I log it in my phone as "scam" that way, when theycall again my caller display flashes scam and i don't bother answering it as i know i havealready checked it out, got about 5 on the go at the moment!! Hope this hint helps(got 3 calls from 08450262533 today!!)

Continually getting calls from these people 7-8 times a day - when I answer no person on end - 1471 to find its the same number ringing  leave message to ask them to stop - they ignore - Signed up years ago to telephone preference - these people ignore. Cancelled my Halifax account. It legal action possible?
