I have reported to BT to get both 0845 lines removed from service. These numbers do not show up on Revenue and Excise web site and do not show up using a Google search and do not show up on a web site which maps 0845 and 0870 numbers to proper company and government agencies landline numbers.

The above post is [***], You have not shut any phone line down. If you people actually phone back this number and asked them to supply hard copy of the reason for them phoning you would all know that the number is genuine.

In my case they wanted me to refund some tax credits, i asked for formal papers to be sent to my home address which they did. The telephone numbers in the letter IS the inland Revenue.
The Number is Inland Revenue, Tax Credit Overpayment Unit, St. Mungo's Road, Cumbernauld Glasgow

This is a definite scam, claimed from Revenue and Excise and they would work until 20:00 tonight. They would never call the line they did as that's not the telephone line that I gave to Revenue & Excise as I have multiple lines. As beside any company calls asking for date of birth and address is always 100% to be fraudulent call. The UK Banks never telephone customer like this , for example.

Hey frec chan if you are a company dealing with peoples personal data then it is a data protection requirement to ensure they are speaking to the person concerned by asking the usual security questions (date of birth, NI number, address)  The phone number is a debt recovery agency working on behalf of the DWP NOT a UK bank.

I see everyone jumping on the bandwagon here reporting its a scam number ITS NOT, the only ones who need to fear a call from this number are the ones that owe money to the inland revenue, this could be income tax or tax credits

I had a call from this number yesterday at 3.00 pm. On answering, no one would on end of line even though it was a good connection. I am on tax credits however I find it odd that HMRC would make contact by phone (to my mobile) when I know of nothing errant in my affairs and without any written correspondence.

Do you think this could be linked with the missing database showing details of every tax credits claimant?  I rang back and got through to the automated service but didn't pursue it as I felt uneasy about discussing my affairs after the 'silent' response earlier.

I'm going to wait for something thorugh the post as I have learnt that everything to do with Tax Credits should always be in documented form (I'm not a big fan of them lol!).

Have received few calls from number 08453003950. This morning at 09:10am answered call from a young lady who claimed to be a "Mr's Scott" and she purported to be from the HMRC. The person stated that "for data protection reasons" she would have to speak to my partner about Tax Credits and she issued another number 08453021420 by which to return call. Having contacted the HMRC on previous occasions, three members of staff at various departments stated that they knew of no reason why HMRC should contact me whatsoever.

I stated these facts to "Mr's Scott" and said that if the matter was of so great an urgency, the HMRC would actually place the query in writing. To this she responded by saying that a letter was forwarded to my partner about the matter. When I then asked "when was the letter posted?" she responded by saying she could not disclose that because of "data protection". Needless to say, I told the young lady (English accent) that her numbers were listed on the Internet as SCAM numbers and that she was not from the HMRC at all. I ended the call by stating that I'd contact OFCOM and the Police.

So, if the young lady and her associates are reading this, you may be interested to know that the HMRC Investigations Unit, OFCOM and the Police will be in touch with you. All "0845" numbers are traceable.

If anyone has received similar calls to those as listed on this web site, then contact HMRC on 0845 300 3900 and OFCOM on 0845 456 3000. They will log the calls and investigate the matter as they see fit. Best of luck.

Regardless of what others claim as being a bona fide call from HMRC, this is not true. The HMRC this morning have confirmed that they DO NOT have a direct number 0845 300 3950 or any other listed for Cumbernauld. The only numbers for HMRC are listed in official correspondence and on their web site.

The persons purporting to represent Tax Credit Department (namely "Mr's Ball" "Mr's Scott" and "Mr. Provin") who use the 0845 300 3950 and 0845 302 1420 would therefore NOT be deemed to represent the HMRC or its personnel.

My advice to others who receive calls of this nature, is to report them immediately to HMRC on 0845 300 3900. The Investigations Unit will then look into the matter. If these calls were genuine, then you would receive official written confirmation to back up the initial query. End of story.

Quote "If these calls were genuine, then you would receive official written confirmation to back up the initial query. End of story."

You have been misinformed mate, 0845300950 is a number that the HMRC use to dail out, its not a number the public would use to phone them.

If you took time to speak to the calls from this number they WILL send you a a hard copy which they did for me, its all legit, in my case i owe £100 for a tax credit overpayment dating back 2 years ago, they sent me repaymentment options and i phoned the OFFICAL tax credits number on 08453003900 and THEY put ME through to the person i spoke to ON 0845300950  a few days before

This is a genuine debt recovery number on behalf of the Inland Revenue.  Had them phone before when my tax was overdue.  It is overdue at present and they have just rang me.

This will cover tax credits as well as overdue tax from self employed which is me

I had a message from this no. to call back asap!! I had been overpaid tax credits and had already paid it back last year as soon as the notice was recieved.
When I rang them I had to give my NI no and dob. He said I had not paid!!! I had to get him to repeat it 4 times as he had such a strong scottish accent I could not understand him!. I had paid over the internet, so how could it get lost? I had proof of payment and a ref no. and I waited so long for him to search (all at my expense) I asked him to ring me back which he hasn't.
I feel these calls are very threatening and bullying and it is ALL THEIR INABILITY TO RUN THE DEPT CORRECTLY!!   What a shambles.
If anyone knows of a contact number to ring to complain I'd be very pleased.

it was a Scottish guy that called me, very un professional, he rang n asked for my mother, and then says my mother needs to call back on 08453021420 hes calling frm revenue and customs, and she needs to quote her n.i number as soon as she calls to get the details up, i said why would she call a random number and give them her n.i, he replies to get the information from the database, i said well u know her name so u must already be able to get her information up without it. then he says they need her n.i number as a security measure.

i just got a call 13:05, i answered the phone and it was silent, done 1471 and puit the number in google and it only comes up with this site, i have only been in my flat for a 5 weeks and have only had a phone line for 11 days, i have not given my number out, so i will never pass over my details. if they have you phone number they should have your address so they should send letters, if i get another call i will get them to give me my details, which they should have if they are legit. i have worked for telesales and all of the clients details are shown. be carefull.if its anything you need you would phone up for it, not someone phone you for it

This number IS HM Revenue & Customs, the reason they ask for details about the directors is to ensure they are not revealing and private confidential business financial matters to anyone who works at the company. This number is chasing outstanding monies

Yes this scam is very clever isn't it Richard? the callers do ask for details in the same way that IR would - I know because I have just spoken to the real Revenue and customs.  After calling and trying to get info of me last week they called and left an answer phone message on my husbands mobile - yeah right! Obviously they have a list of mobile numbers, names and NI numbers and are working down the list alphabetically.  Are they telepathic Richard? I have never given them my or my husbands mobile.  Have not received any landline calls or letters.  Also why do Revenue and Customs not have a record of these numbers on their database?   Come on Richard if they are so desperate to contact me how come I cant get to the bottom of the query by ringing the real number? - because the query DOES NOT EXIST
