I've searched google and the say no to 0845 forum with no results in each case.

The number came up on my mobile but switched off before I could answer.

I had a call from this number too....
It was a missed call, they didnt leave a message.

I had a call from this number too, answered it but no reply. Seems like a scam number. Hope somebody would take actions on these people.

It is Direct Line. I have a policy with them and they telephoned asking me to renew. They knew all about me and my policy. I'm normally very careful, but I'm sure this one's genuine.

They told me it was Direct Line when they phoned.  They asked me to renew my policy.  Had too much info on me to assume any different.  Like bigal I am always suspicious but felt they were genuine.

This is Direct Line. I called them back (Iset up a policy with them yesterday (the day before my call from this number)

The caller claimed to be from Direct Line insurance & stated he "needed to confirm some details in order to renew my car insurance".

I had already received a letter telling me I to automatically renew my insurance I should do nothing, so *needing* to confirm details doesn't sound very legit to me.  

Also, payment for the policy had been taken 2 days previously, adding weight to the dodgy feeling.

I basically told the guy I'd do it myself online - at which point he said he'd talk me through it - at which point I said goodbye.

p.s. there's a large amount of information about car insurance policies, vehicles and renewal dates on the web - not restricted to your insurer.

If it is genuine then Direct Line need to sort their act out, as the caller behaved like a scammer would, and the incomming phone number is not listed in any of the documents they sent me, nor can I find it on their website.

It may well be Direct Line, but how can I trust a call like that?

I had it too. But there's nothing suspicious here.

All you have to do is call the company to check (if, like me, you get a bit worried you've been scammed) or just renew as you normally would.

I'm happy to tell you that the number in question isn't suspicious in the least - DL confirmed my policy was renewed as I'd originally discussed on the above 08453009624 number.

I did tell the lady that it's not really the best approach & to pass this on, but you know how that goes...

it needs everyone to report them to help.

i was just told they were from motor insurance ltd it sounded very odd to me.

If they are really Direct Line they should say so straight away. Asked OH & he said his policy was due for renewal & I've just told them to get lost! So many dodgy callers these days. I tend to shout first and think later. Whoops.

I've just had a call from this number, complete silence. Also I don't have any insurance policy with them and never have?! So why would they be calling me to renew anything? Sound dodgy too me. Probably just ringing numbers in hope people have insurance with direct line and you give them information thinking it's them.
