- Bob| 2 replieshad 4 calls from this number today to my 0800 freefone business no. We dont have a Barclays account or barclay credit cards or anyother dealings through barclays that im aware of... so pretty resonable to guess its another scam
- Caller: Barclays????
- Spookytooth replies to BobI had several calls from this number today. The name they gave was not mine, but there was an option in the menus to say that the person named is no longer available on my number. I think the person who had my number before me just hasn't informed Barclays he's changed his mobile number.
- GingeI have recieved calls from this number and ignored them thinking it was sales calls but heard the first part of the message on my voicemail. I rang barclays and asked if they had tried to contact me. The operator said it was probably just a call from them offering me house insurance. Very strange as the message was from the "fraud dept"??? I will call barclays again, but otherwise it does sound like a bit of a scam????
- Caller: Barclays fraud dept
- Ginge| 1 replyupdate:
I am not 100% sure it was barclays calling me BUT my card has been frauded and luckily barclays were onto it - so maybe it was them calling? or maybe the thieves wanted more details? who knows- Caller: barclays fraud dept
- Lindamay replies to GingeThis is a genuine number for Barclays fraud. I received a call from them today - and unfortunately someone had used my card to make purchased on-line. Luckily this was picked up on 7/11 and the order had been placed on 6/11. I rang the retailer and to my relief they agreed to cancel the order - phew - it was for almost £1000........
The retailer has also agreed to fax delivery address details to the police - If I have left this to Barclays the order would have been processed as they had already authorised the transaction.
When I confronted Barclays they told me that is was not their place to call the retailer and that they had to give them 10days to take the money from my account.......not what you would expect.
At least now I have my money back, the retailer still has their goods and as for Barclays.......impressed that they picked up on the transaction but I think they could be more proactive in stopping the fraud going any further. - J| 2 repliesGot simultaneous calls on landline, mobile and voicemail claiming to be from Barclays...suspicious because another credit card had previously been targeted I rang the number on the Barclays website.
Initially they said it was a scam.
Then called on the card fraud number (also from Barclays website) and they said there had be a 'test' on my account (ie £1 card transaction) from a supplier I use (Play.com) but havent bought anything from recently.
Chose to block all accounts as a precaution- Caller: Purports to be Barclays
- Scott replies to J| 1 replyThis is NOT a genuine number. Do not be fooled by those claiming otherwise (how do you know they're not scammers?) - you may end up paying dearly if you do so.
If it is 'Barclays Fraud Service' then how come the same number rang my phone today, the automated message being picked up by my voicemail, and claimed to be Alliance and Leicester's Fraud Service? Obviously a scam. More fool you if you fall for it. - Neil replies to ScottThis IS the Barclays Fraud Service number. I asked Barclays.
They do not ask for any details other than to ask you to confirm your date of birth from 3 possible options (you press 1, 2 or 3). They then read up to the last 5 transactions on your account and ask you to press 1 if they are genuine.
How would a scammer already know your date of birth or know the precise details of your last few transactions?
I you are still not convinced. Ring Barclays. It takes a few minutes. - David0845 351 2291 If you get a message asking you to phone this number phone the Barclays number 0845 755 5555 and they will put you through to Barlays Freud
- Caller: private caller
- alfieIt is Barclays
It is not a scam
They ask you to confirm your month and year of birth (from which they give you three options), then ask you to input your day of birth.
Then the 'suspect' transactions are read out. If you think they are wrong you get put through to a human, as in my case, who cancelled the card as someone had been trying to withdraw a whole lot of money
Not a scam- Caller: Barclays
- AlexGenuine call and verified by Barclay's Fraud Department. If in doubt call Barclay's on 08700 104 503 (from their website http://www.barclays.co.uk/Helpsupport/Contactusaboutfraud/P1242560037908). The chap at Barclay's gave me a direct number to the Fraud Department of 0800 389 1652.
This was triggered by 3 x consecutive paypal transactions and 1 x Amazon (all genuine). I've saved the number in my phone so I'll know it is them if they call again and am happy to answer the questions.
Would much rather this than have unauthorised transactions from my account. I have been a victim before, and wonder if this increases the liklihood of receiving such calls?
Most certainly not a scam!- Caller: Barclay's Fraud Department
- karrennnnnai have contacted barclaycard by a website linked number and they have confirmed this is a genuine call.
- Caller: Barclaycard
- peter langdonperson not at this number dont phone again
- Caller: barkleys bank
- Call type: Debt collector
- Buck Rogers replies to tedweaselBe careful everyone as the fraudsters are posting messages on this site to try and convince you the number is genuine, as it is in their interests to do so.
- Scorchio replies to BettyThank you for making that clear. It is Barclays. They rang me today concerning some bogus purchases on my account. Had I paid some of the replies on this page any attention I might not have called them, and the rip off of my account might not have been frustrated.
People need to be very careful before sounding very authoritative about something like this, especially when they are *wrong*. - alisongetting these calling on my mobile, dont own or never have had a barcleys account, why they calling me on my new mobile i dont know....be aware...
- EdThis number rang twice here this morning. I ignored it and then looked it up on google which brought me to this page. I've *never* had any accounts with Barclays. The number then rang back at lunchtime and this time I answered it. The recorded voice said they were from "Alliance and Leicester" which strikes me as very dodgy as it's the same number that claimed to also be "Barclays".
They read out 4 date of births, one of which was mine. I hung up at that point. Felt suspicious.- Caller: unknown
- Mark| 2 replies08453512291 is a fraudelent number check it out on Barclays Fraud Prevention website

- Beeper| 1 replyPLEASE ignore those saying this is a Barclays number; this is a scam.
It asks you to call another number which asks for personal info; anyone banking with Barclays knows that Barclays NEVER ask you for any personal info when they call.
Admin, you ned to get the scammer scum off this site; they are perpetuating their own fraud right here on your site.- Caller: I worked for Barclays, I know their policy is to not ask for info
